@somedrunkdude68045 ай бұрын
It is actually remarkably easy. I travel all over the country for work, and I have made a ton of friends along the way. I've been invited into their houses, went on their boats, and went fishing and hunting with them. All because I strike up conversations at airports, bars, and restaurants. The problem is that people won't initiate the conversations, and so many people live in their own little bubble. Everyone just stares at their phones when they are out in public alone. I don't give them that opportunity (unless they insist) because I will strike up a conversation about anything. Genuinely showing interest in the other person helps also.

There have been studies to suggest that conservatives are more willing to form relationships across the aisle, liberals tend to be less willing to find common ground. Doesn’t mean that conservative politics are any better for that reason, but it’s an interesting finding
@alexisfletcher98082 жыл бұрын
Conservatives are “more likely to be friends” with people of different politics because they have the worse take on how America should be. They don’t believe in human rights for everyone which is wrong but they’re willing to put that aside to talk about someone’s favorite football team because the way this world is setup is for white, cis- appearing, people who don’t fit into the minority of the world. Liberals know that you can’t just set aside your views on human rights and kindness to be “friends” with someone who doesn’t think you should be here at all.

I don’t think it’s too strange. Most people will be nice if you’re nice to them. Also in the Southern US where he was, it’s pretty common for strangers to start up conversations with you just for small talk. I’ve lived here for most of my life and even though I don’t always really like that aspect, I’m used to it. I’ve had friends visit from other parts of the US and be surprised that people here are like that.

@@GirlVinland I was not talking about that but the fact that people see a politician as an idol and go to a place to listen to what he have to say dressed up just like people do for a concert is just a concept I can’t understand, I would like to know and understand this people better e and not judge them but the fact that America is so divided politically and it’s either liberal or conservative, nothing in between and based on that they only have friends and meet with people who are from the same “box” (liberal ecc) as them is just strange. And I think both of them (especially conservatives) are far too “extremist” on what they believe to the point their political beliefs is the thing that they base their entire life on

@@Chiara-.- Oh I see. My bad. I agree with you on that one. I don’t get it either and hate that aspect of living here. There are people on both sides who take their extremism too far imo but I know people feel passionately and will disagree with me on that. I feel like once you can’t even connect with other people you’ve lost the narrative, and sadly many are unable to do that these days. The thinking becomes very cult-like and it gets hard to talk to them. I’ve watched family members and friends get sucked into this sort of thing and it’s sad to watch and it gets impossible to get through to them. It does make sense that people get so passionate about it when lives and livelihoods come into play, but it’s not something I know how to easily fix.

The media mainly just shows the jerks of the republican population. Everything is portrayed so falsely compared to the reality of it.

Yeah. It's always "us vs them" when in reality we are all Americans. It is interesting when you learn that George Washington was actually opposed to a 2 party system due to the division it could cause.
