Canada contributes less than 1.5% of CO2 globally. Compare that with China at 29% and the USA at 14%. The costs to Canadian’s tax dollars that go towards green initiatives far outweigh the benefits. Instead of penalizing its own citizens, the Canadian government should impose higher trade taxes and levies to those countries that contribute far greater CO2 emissions and use that money towards green initiatives for Canadians. This will: 1) defer carbon taxes imposed to Canadians to global trade partners, 2) encourage Canadians to buy locally. Does this not make more sense?
