I have had essentially what he has and the same surgery he had done, plus a second one, since 1995. The pain, screaming numbness, foot drop, tripping over myself, and so forth took me out of work from Memorial Day to Labor Day 1995. I fortunately was working in a hospital in Surgery, with the surgeon who ended up doing my surgery, and at that time, we had excellent insurance coverage, since the hospital was a self-insured entity. I got the surgery done the end of June, and PT 5 days a week beginning two weeks later. I still had to get myself back to work by Labor Day, in order to maintain the insurance coverage that was covering my Physical Therapy! I wasn't near ready, but I went in on half time and on light duty for several weeks, and the remainder of each work day I spent in Physical Therapy. Then I had to drive myself home for 30 minutes. I finally got myself back up to full time, and stayed there. Five years later, I had the fusion done in 1999, with the screws, rods, and the bone graft (dug out of my hip bone so the bone was my own)which took me from August to Christmas to get to the point where the surgeon would release me to go back to work again. Different surgeon this time, as the first one had already retired. Different hospital and PT as well. I worked again until 2008, when I had to give it up for good. I got Disability, and pain management, since the surgeon said no more surgery on my spine. Pain is a constant companion, even with the several medications, and being basically confined to my home. My husband of 48 years has become my caretaker, in addition to being the main housekeeper now, since he retired three years ago. I can certainly empathize with him, and with his pain. I am there with him, every single day. I can't say I'm brave enough to stalk and shoot somebody in cold blood, although I have had to deal directly with my second insurance company because after my second surgery - which passed their criteria for prior authorization, BTW, they refused to pay my SURGEON, after they already paid the other claims. After getting billed for three months in a row, and after calling the insurance company and hearing them lie constantly, claiming the doctors office never filed a claim, and the doctors office disputing that and refiling the claim 4 times. I finally took all the bills, insurance statements, etc., and went to the business office at the doctors office. I got in to see the boss, told her what's been going on, and asking what can we do together to force a payment out of the insurance company? She got the insurance company on the speaker phone, got a manager on the phone, and forced her to reveal that they have been discarding the claims for 4 months. She then faxed the claim directly to the fax machine on the desk of that manager, and to verify she has it in her hands, and that it's going to get processed and paid, and it's not going to get "lost" or discarded any longer. Mostly because I cannot afford to pay this 5 figure bill, and I don't intend to, because that's what I pay THEM to do. It got settled within two weeks, and I paid my small portion a bit later. And I never had any other issues with them, because I will take them to task for not doing their job. This was still in the late 1990s, and things have changed greatly since then. But I prefer diplomacy to violence. However, that can change depending on where you're head is at at any given time. And what level of pain you're dealing with at the time. Pain can be a real deal breaker, and send you right off the edge. Been there, done that....

Thank you Trae. I find it fascinating how all the commentators on tv are complaining about the comments about this situation. Anything negative about the CEO is considered obscene. I will bet that each and every one of them has excellent health insurance that their employers are paying for and a concierge doctor on speed dial!!! They probably never had to fight with an insurance co for coverage. I bet they never had to ask a Dr if a procedure suggested is covered by their insurance company. Bet they never had to fight with a hospital to change a code on a procedure so the insurance would pay for it. Health insurance is the bane of my existence. Had an HMO assign me a Dr and when I called for an appointment to get my blood pressure meds refilled I was told that the Dr was not taking any more Medicare Advantage patients. The following week I got a letter saying my Medicare Advantage plan was going away. Still do not have my meds and starting from scratch in January.

Medicare Advantage is worse than normal Medicare. You are better off without it.

Those TV talking heads, and so many others, can complain all they want about negative comments toward that CEO. It just proves how they suck up to the oligarchy. I publish a monthly newsletter with a calendar, showing important and relevant events (such as Rosa Parks Day). For years I've been commemorating Edward Snowden's birthday. No matter which way this case goes, Luigi's birthday will now also be commemorated.

The fact that even many numbnut MAGAT voters are celebrating the CEO's demise just shows how vile a man he was, and they're even calling out influencers like Ben ShWAPiro on the subject.

Regular Medicare is a much better deal. Don’t try to save a buck on Medicare advantage. You can go almost anywhere on regular Medicare, add do yourself a favor, buy a supplement.
@alisonsmith11378 күн бұрын
@ Yes it is a better deal if you can afford the supplement and part d along with the part b premium. That is what I had when I had a full spinal fusion which involved a 7 hour surgery, 6 days in ICU, 6 days in rehab and in a hard plastic torso brace for 14 weeks. But then I turned a year older and I could no longer afford the premiums. Medicare Advantage was my only option. I have not had any complaints until now that I can’t find a doctor. In my past (working) life I helped people navigate the Medicare system. I said then and I say now, offering so many options to seniors is a curse not a pleasure. And the opposite is if you live in a rural area you have no option and you take what you are given. Unless, you can afford a supplement and part d premiums. Best health care for those that have money!!!

I knew an RN who worked , very very briefly, in the medical review/claims department of some big insurer, She said she was told to deny every third claim. She told them that was terrible, every claim she saw was legit. Her boss said that's not our policy or concern. She quit. She says those claims still haunt her. These insurance companies are full of what Germans dubbed " desk criminals" and the c-suite is no better than the guys in the dock at Nuremberg.

Jury nullification would be, as Trae would say, "sweet ambrosia." I've been saying that innocent people are murdered almost daily in this country and for them I say justice needs to be served on the perpetrator. This UHC CEO is not an innocent person.

This reminds me of a TED Talk I heard in 2014 by entrepreneur Nick Hanauer called "Beware, fellow plutocrats, the pitchforks are coming". He's given a few talks on his take of how capitalism should work in a healthy economy. Even in 2014 he spoke of building the economy from the middle out......kinda like Biden.
