Interesting how she says “Most favour raising tax rates on millionaires, however, 7/10 say they are extremely or very concerned with the amount THEY pay in taxes” as though you cannot simultaneously be concerned with the amount you pay and also want the wealthier to be taxed more? In-fact raising taxes on the rich would likely remedy their concern because as wealth is redistributed more equally, people in lower tax brackets would benefit!

"Concerned" can mean almost anything, it depends on how the question is worded and what the "concern" is. - I'm concerned that I'm paying more in tax than the highest earners, either in absolute numbers or as a percentage of my income. - I'm concerned that I'm not paying enough. - I'm concerned that once I pay my taxes I won't have any money left. etc.

Why in the world wouldn’t we be in favor of raising taxes on the rich?
@shinHis34 жыл бұрын
It lowers the incentive for people to get rich in the first place. The overall tax then becomes lower because there are less rich ppl and also because ppl are incentivised to build their businesses elsewhere/risk tax evasion. Why do you think many companies set themselves up in places where they have least tax? Wouldn't you do it? This also means a lot especially to people who grind their life away for later life/for their family. They have to grind their life away just for other ppl to reap the benefits?
@yotubeification4 жыл бұрын
@@shinHis3 there is a simple solution to people trying to ship their businesses and wealth over seas. Nationalization. Even better. Turn the factories over to the workers and let them run their workplaces like democracies and elect people to positions in the company. Mondragon in Spain is the 10th largest company in that nation. It has some of the best benefits, highest quality products, and highest wages in the nation, because they don't have to waste money on overpaying a CEO to do almost nothing and shareholders who do literally nothing. It's like a little democracy within the large democracy that is Spain.
@shinHis34 жыл бұрын
@@yotubeification -_- You can say shareholders do nothing, sure, but CEOs do a lot of things. The main problem with socialism, to me, is that they don't know how to value good and bad decisions. What CEOs do, in case you don't understand, is to make good decisions and avoid bad decisions. Sure, they don't "work" in the old sense of the word, manual labor, but they sure do mull over the decisions they have to make and make sure they make good ones. Socialism doesn't take this into account. Steve Jobs/Bill Gates didn't become rich because they work more than other people. They became rich because they implemented better ideas than other people. No matter how much you dislike it, effort doesn't always translate into results. The difference in results is the from the difference of the ideas put into practice. The problem with the system you speak of, is that people will be less incentivized to come up with new ideas because their hard work can just be taken by the government. This is why America is at the forefront of technology for almost every category of individual products. Good ideas get rewarded (although sometimes bad ideas get rewarded too). That's better than good ideas gets taken away and people don't care about coming up with good ideas anymore.
@yotubeification4 жыл бұрын
@@shinHis3 the reason the U.S. is at fore front of technology is public research funding. Also you are confusing government run organizations and community run work places. I prefer to take a left libertarian approach rather than a communist approach. A CEO possition is admitedly more work than I made it out to be, you're right. But that is why even more than before to have the workers be in control. Because the CEO makes descions that effect the worker's livelihoods. And if the business fails it is the workers who pay for it ultimately. CEOs bail and get golden parachutes.
@shinHis34 жыл бұрын
@@yotubeification Did Microsoft or Apple have anything to do with this public research funding you mentioned? If they are I stand corrected but I've never heard anything of the like. I see the ideal you're going for by mentioning "community run work places", but I've never seen it to not shift into the "government run organizations" in the long run. Maybe you can give me an example of one that has endured >10 yrs. I admit CEOs getting golden handshakes for making stupid decisions also leave a bad taste in my mouth, while lower class people who make bad decisions don't get the same leeway. But CEOs aren't representatives of their workers. They're their leaders. They decide the direction of the company, or at least pitch it to the shareholders, and make sure the smaller decisions go in line with that direction. Putting those decisions to vote just makes the position of CEO obsolete. But that's not what's bad about that. What's bad is you'll have ppl who have no idea about how things work also voting on the direction the company should go. For small companies where everyone knows each other it can work, but anything bigger than that would yield worse and worse results since the number of ppl who have no idea on what they vote on increases.

The Bible might not "mention confiscating someone's earnings" - I am no Bible scholar, but the words "confiscate" and "earnings" are not to be found much there. The Bible does talk of taxes, however. Tax-collectors (one of the Apostles was one) were considered very lowly socially, akin to the bailiffs, debt collection agencies and repo men of today. There is certainly a clear message that money is an impediment to getting to heaven, but it's not exactly emphasised these days, especially in the churches where the pastor flies a private jet or two.

because Americans would rather listen to celebrities than scientists, doctors, or economists. they even voted one into the most powerful position. Americans and the system that is America do not reward wisdom and knowledge as much as they value viciousness, ruthlessness, and drama. look at how much they side-stepped people like Yang. he was probably the only one who spent his time focusing on issues and problem solving but because he was so dry and technical and did not stoop to trash-talking and drama, he was not given as much attention by the public. on the other hand, consider the Yang's counterpart, who spent his entire campaign mostly fanning the fire by demeaning his opponents and offering little to no substantial argument, and yet he unanimously won the support of his party. the people at the frontier of pushing the country and the world forward like those in NASA truly are not the people America deserves for how much they're made to be villains in conspiracies
