@John Daliere '21 no he' s actually not calling for 90 percent, he points out that in the 50s and 60s such tax rates existed. There is much to be said for higher tax rates for the rich. Simply for one that a lot of that wealth is gained not by working but by things as powerplay, misusing weaknesses of others and the like. The rich cannot ignore the world around them. If it is by taxes or by paying fair salaries for jobs, a part of their gained wealth works better for everybody including these rich people themselves if it's paid back. If you see that a once great country as the USA is moving backwards and becoming more and more a third world country, wherein the really rich, who are becoming an increasing smaller percent of the population and not or hardly at all pay taxes, are more and more hardly or not involved in the welfare of their country.... is it so strange to put higher taxes on them? I would think not.

@John Daliere '21 thanks for ecplaining GOAT. But... yeah, we' ve differences. To be clear, I'm from the Netherlands. And I have maybe not all the insights to understand the ins outs of socio-economics from the USA, but I really try to follow the developments. I think our greatest difference is where the balance between taxation and private income lies and how that works out for all the income groups. I don't have a problem per se with that, but imo the rich do not by far enough to give people in the lower income classes a fair change to keep up. For a government taxes are the prime instrument to correct those imbalances. What we see the last fifty years, roughly from the Reagan administration up till now, that the middle class has eroded away and that poverty numbers are growing increasingly, while at the same time rich people get richer. Esspecially the very rich. And taxation plays a very peculiar role in that story. We in the Netherlands always had a view of solidarity, which laid the foundation for a system of taxation and premiums (for instance umemployement after working a year or longer is for the first six months reimbursed up to 100 percent of your last earned pay check for the first six months. After that the percentage builds off and the unemployment pay stops). It looks like socialism or communism but that's not the case. It's our long standing and deep rooted nationwide solidarity. A great factor in this is, that our internal market has always been small, so opportunities for job security are always small. And... the companies always needed a well fed and well educated eork force. That's the hidtoric basis for our social contract. The richer owners of the companies had an interest for keeping poverty csused by unemployment from the doors of the work force, FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT. It's a historic model that had a very long standing history. Up till now we succeeded in maintaining our socio-economic solidarity while making adjustments to keep up with a vastly changing market where worldwide influences are getting more dominant. So, our starting points are very different. Also the way we view solidarity and individualism. Up till now we fo it better than the USA not only for social benefits and better healthcare, but also in level of education, job participation and so on. But... because we are a small nation witj a solidarity moral... differences between income groups are way smaller and bonusses... well they are smaller and mostly frowned upon. If I had to choose? Netherlands! I hope I have worded the essentials of my story in a wsy you understand them in the way I meant them.

To crack down on it, you would have to have one thing above all - international cooperation. neoliberalism has split us in hundreds of competing political entities, while completly eradicating borders for capital. *that* is the major issue. technically, it could be fixed easily, yes, but _politically_ its really a tough one.

Regardless, the historian clearly doesn't understand Fox's viewership or that the majority of wealth is held by liberals not conservatives. The majority of areas, cities, and individuals with high wealth are blue. The majority of media is blue. Apple, Google, media, sports, wealthiest schools, (Harvard, UCLA, MIT, Berkley), etc is all primarily owned/ran by liberals. Even in the broader society the majority of high earners have extensive former education and are more likely to lean left. Him acting as if the majority of billionaires are Republican and watch Fox News, or prop it up, shows his own ignorance and lack of understanding in regards to American culture. The reason Republicans (aka Fox watchers) support low taxation is because they don't want the incompetent government involved in the majority of issues to begin with

Why is it that people always attack someone because their parents were successful enough to leave them something? That is kind of the point of having a middle class; you know, so that people born into poverty aren't doomed to have children and grandchildren born into poverty too. Why is it that what a person says should be automatically dismissed because they have an inheritance? When Netflix, Google, and Amazon don't pay full taxes on their profits, the people working 2 or 3 jobs are just getting a punch in the face. When someone is trapped in a job with a sh%tty boss, or a dead end career, or pathetic wages because if they leave, they'll lose their healthcare insurance cover for them or their children, and there is no free healthcare to allow them to improve their lives and the economy, it's a punch to the face. And people avoiding tax, or paying pathetic rates of tax at the top - crying the whole time "but if we pay more tax, the economy will starve" - they're the ones punching us in the face. And they pay the wages of people who've TAUGHT you that to pay more tax will hurt you. Well...they would say that, wouldn't they? Yet the most successful period of American history economically (other than Clinton) was under a 90% upper tax bracket. His arguments could work in perfect world. There is max point when high taxes make less revenue. Information and value can also flow between countries. Soon even more in tokenised form. How to self correct from escalating taxing when there is no one left to tax? Only if we allow governments to control everything there can be totally fair taxing. No he didn't. He tried to use a "guilt by association" argument which has no bearing whatsoever on what Tucker says on TV. Saying "you've taken money from the Cato institute so you're part of the problem" is mindless. Not to mention that Bregman is an extremely skinny, pale, soy-guzzling imitation of a man. No thanks.
@donala46284 жыл бұрын
Margatroid why is it that arguments about 'left leaning' men always turn into insults directly to their masculinity with insults like what you just said? Is it just that you have nothing left to say? Or do you think that someone who looks more feminine/physically weaker is not worthy enough to be considered to be equally as valuable as someone who, in your opinion, is considered masculine. I'm sorry but I just don't understand this whole new wave of right leaning, 'I want the global elites to rule over me forever' mentality.
@Margatroid4 жыл бұрын
@@donala4628 Your last paragraph is pure strawmanning, but as for the rest, it's been scientifically proven that left-leaning men tend to have weaker upper body strength, and tend to be less masculine in general. It's not that he "looks" weaker--it's that he is. Leftism is a mental pathology held by people who psychologically associate themselves with weakness, sickness, ugliness and incompetence. That's the actual reason why he hates Tucker Carlson for being a millionaire. His argument is a logical fallacy; it does not address anything Tucker actually says or does. It's merely common ad-hominem: "you're rich and you take money from rich people, so you're bad." The truth is that he thinks success is bad and hates people who are successful, because he is a pathetic weak effeminate man who cannot see himself as successful: as a dominant sexually-prolific "alpha male." It's a simple case of garden-variety hateful envy. There is no wisdom in it, no nobility, and certainly no love. It's the attitude of an evil person who disguises their envy and their hatred as "concern." And you can see in his face and in his body that that evil comes from his physical weakness, his low testosterone, and his lack of healthy exposure to the sun. He's not qualified to comment on anything a strong and healthy adult man does. He's a pale, weak, sickly imitation of a man.

*This is brilliant!* More brilliant than you might have picked up on. First Tucker goes into the Davos event, where Bregman points out how the people there were hypocrites for espousing values they didn't work toward themselves. He permits Tucker to compliment him for being that blunt and saying it out loud, even when Bregman admits they didn't like him for saying that. Tuckers seems to enjoy it and Bregman smirks. Then he turns the tables and does what he did at Davos to Tucker, calling him out and saying it like it is. He says Fox news blames immigrants for economic problems, Murdoch and the Koch brothers don't want Fox anchors to talk about taxes, etc. And instead of the 'hat's off to you' Tucker said he'd have given Bregman for that directness at Davos, he flies into a rage and insults him, revealing that he too is a massive hyporite and part of the problem. Flawless discussion for Bregman, who succeeded at revealing Tucker as a hollow mouthpiece with no true values.
