COMPONENTS - Lovely, as usual for Stonemaier. The card quality is great, all the pieces are thick and chunky, and the storage solution works great, at least for non-sleeved cards. 0:00 - Introduction 0:26 - Accessibility 0:54 - Reputation Track 1:55 - Double Automa 2:45 - Loot Effects 3:35 - Crew Cards 4:35 - Final Thoughts

Helpful review as usual, Mike. Heard some buzz about this, but didn't even think to check it out until I saw you had a video. A bit different than I imagined, but looks great.

Another great review. I really really like the art on the original to this version. Even the card design looks off to me.

I don't have that prior experience to compare to, but I like the art for itself :)

For those who are familiar with the original, the artwork may be a bit divisive. I don’t particular care for this artwork even when not compared to the original art. I also don’t care for the theme as much. This will most likely be a pass, but for those that did not have a chance to get the original this may be the only way to play the game. Thanks again for the review.

I am trying to understand the reputation track breaking down at solo. Could you please give an example? Seems like the way to get the best loot is still always to be the rightmost.
@OneStopCoopShop2 жыл бұрын
Sure! To explain further, let's say that it's the first round of the game. Whichever card I pick, there is only a 1/6 chance of the automa choosing the same (all things being equal). The pilferer will never tie you. So 5/6 of the time you will gain no benefit from being rightmost on the reputation track. And of course being further left gets you free victory points. And of course the odds will get even worse in future rounds, because you'll have different groups of crew cards kept. Like in round 3 it's likely 3 of my 9 cards are totally different than the 3 remaining cards for my opponent. So, long story short, in all my plays of solo I almost never got the automa and I playing the same card.

Sweetand to the point. Thank you - I guess i will pass as at the moment I play mostly solo (my son is in love with spirit island but otherwise prefers to go outside with his skateboard). Also I am surprised to find that I am not a huge fan of the animals, I like how colourful it is though and I guess I understand how using animals helps avoid a lot of debate regarding racism, colonialism etc. Also: you are fast! I had to double check if I accidentally had 1.5x speed on... 🙃

Haha, yes, it’s tough to fit in 5 detailed points in 5 minutes ;)

It's more similar to Tapestry than Euphoria. In Euphoria, the two bots are of equal footing. In Tapestry and Libertalia, the Shadow Empire and the Pilferer are not in equal footing with the Automa.

Yes, that's exactly right. Thanks!

Between Two Cities has two solo mode, a very simple one and one with automa cards

I've only played Between Two Castles, but I enjoyed both automa modes there for different reasons.

I wonder if the game is good for 3-6 players. It is difficult to find a strategy game for 6 players (except 7 wonders, It's a wonderful world). Recently, I found Cascadia extremely good for solo. The puzzle is satisfying and there is no automa.
@OneStopCoopShop2 жыл бұрын
I’ve played up to 4 player, and I was certainly fun. But the chaos ramps up as you add more players, so you need to be sure you are okay with that before trying it with 6!

Is it possible to play the automa with 2 automa players? If so, how would that effect the solo play?
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
It would be a little awkward, because there is only one set of the character cards for the automa. You certainly could use a second set of player characters for a second automa, but you'd have to reference the actual automa characters to remember what they do. So yes, I'd say it's possible, just might be slightly awkward. But I imagine it would make the balance a little more consistent.

Euphoria has 2 full automas. Tapestry has a full AI (Automa) and a degenerate one (Shadow Empire)
@OneStopCoopShop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that clarification!
@Tanks.With.Teeth.Malloy3 жыл бұрын
The other game you was thinking of was tapestry. There is the AI and then the shadow empire that just steals buildings if I remember correctly. Sm games always have sopme of the best solo out there. My favorite still though was red rising but this one looks like it'll be fun :) tTank for the review.

Great review Why do we have to include automa all the time? What happen to just good all win or lose condition without all the shitness of vp? 😜🤷
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair, this game is always about VPs, so it sounds like maybe you don't like this type of game in general and not specifically automas? ;)
@mabos5553 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop yes but I still belive that even those kind of games should have solo mode that is not about the vp 😉 Maybe not this specific game because I do understand from you that the solo mode is a waste of time, but for other games

@@mabos555 oh sure, I see what you mean. Something like Orleans where the solo/coop expansion turns it into a defense game with victory conditions. I often enjoy that sort of design too.

Is it ok for a nine year old to play the game?
@OneStopCoopShop2 жыл бұрын
My 9 year-old had no trouble with it, but he’s been playing games since he was 5 and reads pretty well, so I can’t say all kids will have the same success!
