I'm looking at buying a pair of those focal's. Are they rolled off in the top. I like a bright clean, dynamic punchy speaker. Will they deliver that?

100%. The Beryllium tweeter has an impeccable presentation. I purchased a new pair in 2021 for half off original selling price of $5,999. It was an absolute no-brainer for me and what I was looking for. In spite of there not being a single pair in the Cherry wood color, the black is just fine and the overall sound presentation is forward, the imaging is spot on, and as one would expect from stand mount speakers of this high quality, the sounds stage is superb. I have them mounted on a pair of custom Sound Anchor stands (not inexpensive but worth every penny) which enhances the bass beyond anything I could have imagined. No need for a sub-woofer. I have them paired with a Hegel H90 which is has warmer characteristics than most SS amps and combined with Hegel's Sound Engine Technology, I would hard pressed to find anything better in this price range. I'm all in for around $7K including Bluesound Node2i, Cardas Parsec Speaker cables, Audioquest Power Conditioner and assorted high quality power cable and interconnects.

@@JC.LC. Difficult to say directly one is better then the other. Both manufacturers are premier level. Matching speakers to the right amplifier is critical. Are you able to go to a store and listen to each speaker with different amps? A Mytek amp or Cambridge Audio would not work well with the Focal Electra 1008 BE's. They need cleaner power and a warmer amplifier. I was considering a tube amp. Their sensitivity is 92db so it was borderline but could have worked nicely. I just didn't want to get into tubes yet. I bet something like the Parasound HALO and B&W 705's would be a good match or even a Pass Labs, although then your getting into real $$.

@@philipgardiner2003 I see. I have 3 different amps a NAD M22, Yamaha AS-1200 and a modern version of the Dynaco ST-70 (tube amp) all have their strengths and weaknesses. Do you think any of those amps will pair well with the Focal 1008 be?

@@JC.LC. Without a doubt the Yamaha. The NAD M22 is going to be bright and the Dynaco may not have quite enought umph even though it's Class A.

D2r gives a natural sound, focal electra 1008be's sound is soft and mellow and beautiful bass.
