I learned from my mother, when she was sewing clothes for my sisters & I, that you can use a bodice from one pattern & a skirt from another & sleeves from yet another to make clothes look the way you want them.

I like altering an existing pattern for a different look. Dropping the waist on a pattern and then attaching the skirt is an easy change to make. Also making a top out of lace from one pattern and placing it over the strapless bodice of another for lining creates a fancy look.

Love putting mesh or chiffon over the fabric for a fancier look. I use the bodice pattern to cut out the chiffon overlay. I use the bodice pattern for the lining as well but cut away the straps to get the strapless under bodice look. You give very good instructions on how to modify an existing pattern. Very well explained.
