The books are on the shelves. They are arranged in order. And I now believe that this is the best Puppetry and Theatre Library in the country (not the U.S. state) of Georgia. Come explore it with me. And so at last the Library Diaries come to an end (for now).

Byrne, so nice to see that you and your (partial) library completed the journey safely! And nice to see some of your art, and memories.

Indeed. I let loose a very loud sigh of relief and words of gratitude directed beyond me when I saw it.

I am glad this great collection made it across all those continents and seas. Seeing your video, I guess many people will wish that they had documented their own diaries etc so well.

Thanks John. I am totally irregular in my diary keeping. But I just keep going when i remember and then it accumulates. And I am inspired to do more having these journals back with me again. The point is this: If you set out to create some huge body of writing you'll never do it. You just do it when you remember.

Thanks for sharing Byrne. Great more books to put on the list. I just got turned on to “The Dwiggins Marionettes: A Complete Experimental Theatre in Miniature” this weekend… now i need to rewatch this on a screen bigger than my phone a freeze and write down all I see. :)

Freeze away! Hope you find a bit of inspiration here. Thanks for the tip about Dwiggins, which I've heard of but not spent time reading about.

Great collection! That museumbook published in connection with the Metamorphosis exhibition reminded me how much i would have wanted to visit that exhibition if i had only known it was happening back then. There is a (official) 17 min video on Vimeo with quality photos and overview of the puppets, arrangements and objects on display from that exhibition titled: EXPOSICIÓ // Reportatge // Metamorfosis. Visions fantàstiques de Starewitch, Švankmajer i els germans Quay Allthough i dont travel much due to my current financial situation i plan to go to Prague in the not to distant future and i will certainly visit the Karel Zeman museum (hopefully it is still there by then!), maybe buy myself a number of Loutkář magazine as well if i happen upon one ( allthough i dont speak/read czech :).

Glad you enjoyed the video. And thanks for the video tip. (The book is in English too and you can still find it.) By the way over on my Gravity From Above channel I have more Prague and puppetry related videos. And a series on my 2022 trip there. Czech it out!

The two drawings that you show at 19:52-19:55 in this video vaguely remind me of the "stand" names Tohth in the manga and anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. For a moment that made me wonder if both yourself and JoJo creator Hirohiko Araki were both influenced by or paying homage to some other artist who I am not familiar with. He's around your age so that seemed plausible, but I can't find anything at a quick glance online that says he was referencing anything with that so maybe it's just a coincidence. Either way I liked it.

Thanks for noticing. I was influenced by various mangas from the mid-80s. I have a few direct images made in manga style but strangely colored in a non-manga way. These images from the late 80s and early 90s were an attempt to comment on the hollowness of the cute cartoon style by suggesting that the foreground character drawn more realistically was living in one world and tempted by the unreality in the poster behind her. I didn't use manga/anime imagery very much because I could already see that it was a dead end.

I saw it real quick in passing, in that Svankmajer art book, what looked like a portrait of Karl Marx. Do you have any info on the story behind that piece? Was it some kind of a statement in favor of or opposed to Marx' philosophies?
@TheAnadromist

Evidently you don't know much about Jan Švankmajer (can't blame you) or the Czech Republic (you should know more about Eastern Europe, but the education system has let you down). There is no way in Hell that Švankmajer would make a pro-Marxist image. If you bother to stop on that frame you'll se it's totally defaced. Švankmajer actually got in deep trouble with the Czech Communists at one point. Look for his short video called... The Death of Stalinism in Bohemia 1990.

I assumed being from that area it would be anti Marx, but didn't want to bias the question itself.
