Up there, in the very upper reaches of the Library, in the Floor of Philosophy, lives a monster. From her high perch she gazes at the City below, and the grand star lit Sky above, awaiting guests. On her side stand her Faeries, ever present and ever royal. Those Faeries weren't made to hurt, not really. See, before their Lady came for them, their job was to open. They opened locks, they opened doors, they opened minds, and under her command... They started opening people. And oh, how they loved their new task. Any who seek Books will eventually be forced to fight her. Those that survive the encounter have mamy names for her. For some, she is Garion. For others, she bears the name Arbiter. Others still call her the Beast. But the librarians know her as Lady Binah.

Ah, the Floor of Philosophy. Just as freakishly intense, moody, and intimidating as my college philosophy classroom. All jokes aside, you're right in that these battle themes reflect the character (Binah) and floor very well. As rhythmrally said, however, this is a regular battle theme, and Binah is actually the Patron Librarian you're controlling against the guests- the enemies that come to the library to effectively fight in gladiator matches to gain the library's books. Binah herself is just as intimidating and dark as this theme, while also being very philosophical and brooding, which makes her a perfect match for her floor's subject matter and her namesake Sephirah (which governs understanding and contemplation). She's also one of the strongest Patron Librarians you can control, and in the game's story, she is a formidable assassin who used to belong to the most feared organization in the setting, one that could effectively be considered the main antagonistic force of the game as a whole. All of this really shows in her theme. The first phase represents her philosophical and pensive side, while that veritable thunderclap that begins the second phase pretty much represents her awakening and getting serious. The tension keeps building in the second phase until the third phase when she really demonstrates why she is one of the most infamous and monstrously powerful beings out there. So when you hear those war drums, just know that the intimidation factor is very much justified. This is why this theme is tied with Gebura's as my favorite of the floor themes. No, it has nothing to do with Binah being my favorite of the Patron Librarians. Not at all. I also wanted to mention that the reason that I was very adamant about selecting a video with two loops for this theme is to show how well each phase loops in on itself, as well as making the abrupt stop at the end a little less jarring. The floor themes can function as one single song or as three individual themes equally well.

Thank you Kevin for the Library of Ruina priority requests 🙏🏼 I like that you stuck with Binah being a boss battle, but don’t worry, she’s a boss who’s on your side - the Floor of Philosophy is one of the last floors that opens up in the library and then you can use her floor to do battle with outsiders whenever. I love her battle theme a lot because I think it’s such a perfect representation of her wisdom, classiness, and Intimidation as you said. She’s a scary lady! I agree LoR’s soundtrack works very well with gameplay, because it can’t be too distracting when you have to use your brain a lot while selecting cards and deciding who to use those cards against, but the longer the fight goes, the music goes through the phases with each rise in emotion and you also get hyped up along with it. I like that you mentioned the sound effects because LoR absolutely has some of the crunchiest and satisfying sfx I’ve heard, it’s awesome. The snap you hear between phases is actually something you hear in the game whenever a die is rolled (which happens a lot), plus lots of bone crunching punches and swinging swords. Each floor will get specific upgrades exclusive to their floor too, and this one gets something that involves a big monster roar when you unlock it during a battle, which goes so great with this song. It’s a super fun game lol. Yes we’re still in a library don’t worry about it 🤫

@@finikksu yea, it might be a stretch but IMO, but LoR is in a way also kinda a weird mix of dungeon simulator and regular turn-based tactic game but without the base building and instead focus on managing the personnel (in this case our librarian) to receive the invader (in this case our 'Guest'), so for most of the regular encounter, we really are the boss, as the music gradually change as our emotion meter increase, until your enemy actually start to fight back and in that case their theme start playing (ofc the game still has an actual 'bosses with their own special theme and all of that) but yea, tl;dr the floor theme is definitely a piece of boss music on enemies perspective (or play gebura EGO and be literally a boss on command lmao)

They're not boss themes but floor themes representing the patron librarian of said floor, which is Binah in this case, and each phase represents a higher emotion level as the batlle goes on and everyone gets into the rhythm of things. But given Binah's story it's not surprising they gave her floor a very ominous boss-like theme.

Didn’t really think about the choir section for this song but it makes a lot of sense from the setting and the role Binah had before. The suffering of the city folk you probably can only faintly hear when you’re in a position so up high over them. It also makes more sense why floor of Language’s third part has so much more emphasis on the choir since Gebura’s from the side of the city where the most suffering occurs. Project Moon does a really good work incorporating lore and themes into gameplay and music so it’s cool to hear opinions from someone with no context finding things that the players might have missed in their playthrough.

Adore this game and OST. The thing with the snaps between the phases is that, while they aren't used in the transitions in game, the sound effect is used when inputting commands in battle, rolling dice, etc so you do hear it throughout the gameplay itself. The game is at its core a deck building game with card and dice mechanics.

The Floor of Philosophy certainly has one of my favourite Floor tracks, and Language is another one, funnily enough. That’s due to the Patrons of these Floors, Binah and Gebura respectively, being rivals in the past of the game’s setting. And yeah, this theme sounds awesome ingame whilst your Librarians are in the midst of battle. Really fits the dramatic atmosphere. It was nice to hear your thoughts on this theme!
@happyengineer5427
@happyengineer5427 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I can remember the snapping/dicerolling sound between the phases is actually heard at the beginning and ending of every 'scene' (attack planning phase, in which you choose your cards). If the emotion level rises at the end of the turn, when you roll the dice(you hear the snap) the music theme changes: to your own - if you have the advantage - or to the enemy - if they're stylin' on you. And, my god, after the early stages of the game you will hear the enemy theme a lot. Well... except for Gebura. Gebura's theme plays even over the endgame bosses' theme, which is metal af.

My favourite Battle Theme. Ominous, foreboding, but beautiful, it fits the ruthless but elegant and verbose Patron Library of Philosophy. Eternally calm and composed, she plays the role of distant and impartial observer, participating in the Library's battles simply to see where it all ends. Remember, never say you dislike tea in her presence. That's not a pretty way to go. P.S. You actually do hear that snapping sound in the game. It's the SFX for the speed dice roll and Angela's teleportation, in a way being the game's shorthand for "shit's gonna get real".

Binah, the floor where YOU are the boss. Sort of. (There are 3 'boss' floors. Binah, Gabura, and Tipireth.) Binah is a ranged character who has her own unique debuffs, Fairy and Sin, which are very powerful. She herself can also delete enemy dice blocks, stopping strong (But not raid) attacks and sealing enemy dice, meaning they have less moves. She herself isn't that strong though, and needs some support from the others. Her floor's gimmick besides herself is you can recreate the story of Apocalypse Bird and become The Beast of the black forest yourself. Although this strat isn't that good since the besat is fairly underpowered compared to the other two boss floors. The real thing here is that fairy and sin debuffs, which deal a lot of damage whenever the enemy does anything. Sin dealing percentage damage, Fairy doing normal damage, but its unaffected by most resistances. Gabura's floor's boss is herself. You eventually get the ego card Mountain of Corpses and give it to her. She noms all her allies and gets some massive, massive buffs. Then she gets Shell which makes her immune to stagger damage. (The scarier damage type.) and she just goes ham. As you can guess, its heavy metal so yeah. Tiphireth has the best exodia combo, but also the hardest to pull off. You have to get all negative emotions and give her the 5 cards of the magicial girls. Once you do so, she gets something like a +10, makes all enemies have a -5 to EVERYTHING, and a lot of other stuff that gives you health and stagger, making you essentially a boss that the final boss is scared of. But its the hardest of the 3 exodias to get since you are very weak until you get it, unlike the other two floors.
@Sintarzus
@Sintarzus 2 жыл бұрын
Everybody already explained this thing, but I'll tell it anyway. Every sephira theme (you heard Tipheret, Gebura and now Binah) is the common theme used when dealing with the various people that you invite in the library. The battles begin at phase one, but when your librarians emotions level going higher (either positive or negative, anything counts), you get powerful passive upgrades (every floor has unique ones), and theme changes. You are basically the boss of the floor, going through phases and buffing up. Also, bosses bringing their theme with them, CHANGE THE BACKGROUND, and you NEVER expect that.

Just a little observation I like making. A trate often showed by binah is her love of tea. Another librarian, chesed, is similarly shown to have the coffee lover trate. So I find it interesting that despite chesed mainly drinking coffee his floors theme is a lot more subdued and relaxing,low energy; compared to binah. Now I know this is because he is the librarian of social sciences and he is a laid back person and has the association with a water theme. I just find it interesting that the trate that is a big part of them is kinda flipped.

I agree that LoR music is just part of the experience, the whole battle arena is set as a stage with terms like 'Scene, Curtain Call, Acts". Any Floor of X is a stage, your own stage so not really boss themes. The Reverberation music you listen long ago might be the closest, but even that BGM has an even stronger theme more fitting as a boss battle. I'm not sure how much would your patrons push the real boss themes, and the real spoilers. But behind every theme there is a lot, and really a LOT, of context.

some things to point out... skip some if you want: -YES the "floor themes" are technically boss battles... but the reality es that YOU are the boss, the game is not abot you going out of your way to do whatever thing the plot demands, the game is about people all around "The City" trying the ordeal of The Library, an increasingly dangerous place you manage, and failing in the process, each time they fail, you grow stronger -speaking about The Library, the place is based on The Library of Babel (not to be confused with the TOWER of Babel) in resume is a book about a tower contaning the infinite knowledge of the universe as the tower is infinite, and has books containing random assortments of characters, if you look hard enough, then you'll find the deepest seecrets of reality in written form; likewise The Library starts with just gibberish books, an like a living being seeks nourishment (in the form of knowledge) in the people of "The City", the director of The Library makes things ""fair"" though, yes the guests can die in The library and be transformed into a book for its nourishment BUT if the guests win (meaning you fail) they can return home with the books they want (with some caviats) -about the director of the library... she basically reprouposed an old instalation of a company into the hell that is The Library... the theater in the Floor of Nat. Sciences, the melting room in the Floor of Language, the night sky here in the Floor of Philosophy, all happens inside The Library as the laws of reality don't apply inside, only the laws of the director... also, because of that, she uses the people that used to work in the facility (Formerly known as "L Corp.") as the weapons of The Library... plus one outsider that LITERALLY broke into the library without being invited at the begining of the game -the weapons of the library are composed of the 9+1 Patron Librarians (the +1 is the outsider I mentioned), and an assortment of Assistant Librarians to help their respective Floor Masters (the patron librarians), the first ones are named after the Sephira Spheres of the Tree of Life in the Kabbalah, except Keter, wich is, you guessed it, the +1, so insted of the Patron named "Keter" we have Roland an ordinary Grade 9 Fixer (as in, a weak fixer, and don't ask me what a fixer is... the job exist IRL and is as morally black as in the game, the difference is, in the game universe is a common job accepted by society... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixer_(person) ) the other 9 are Malkuth, an innate leader with a bit of an inferiority complex; Yesod, an strict and grounded-to-the-earth man; Hod, a kind genius girl who suffers the pain of everyone more than everyone themselves; Netzach, the everdrunk and deep guy; Tiphereth, a curious child with an inquisitive mind; Gebura, a legendary elite fixer (instead of a number, she has a "colour", wich is a title signifies she is above Grade 1, the best of the best, and that title is "The Red Mist") who is simple minded and easy to approach... she is retired for reasons tho; Chesed, a rich prodigy that left the boring luxury in favor of exciting passion, and coffee... lots of coffee; Binah, a former Arbiter of the City (the rulers of the place, hyper enhanced with tech that defies all reason), eternal rival of Gebura (the two are the most powerful beings in The Library), deep thinker, and well... lets say that her floor isn't the Floor of Philosopy for no reason, she knows things; and finally Hokma, one of the founders of "L Corp." and loyar follower of the CEO (or former CEO as "L Corp." no longer exist) -After all that rambling the last things are a bit short... first, the "Snap" sound when changing the phases actually plays in-game, a lot in fact, but in other context, not as part of the BGM, and second... in the same vein as Gebura Battle - Floor of Language, this theme has a sister theme, but unlike "The Red Mist" (yes, the name of the theme is Gebura's title) for the Floor of Language, this one is strictly an enemy theme, not yours, and its name is "Head, Eye, Claw", playing only at the very end of the game, and it was supposed to be the Phase 3 here, and still is technically interchangeable, but in the end, the devs decided to make a more "mature" 3rd phase for Binah, and re-used the old theme for another being like her, another Arbiter (and company) who is well... preety immature for an Arbiter
