Taiaiake Alfred is known for his leadership and groundbreaking research in the fields of Indigenous governance, philosophy and history, and also for his incisive social and political criticism. He has been awarded a Canada Research Chair, a National Aboriginal Achievement Award in the field of education, and the Native American Journalists Association award for best column writing.

One thing the indigenous didn't have that is a major factor of what we do have today is banks. So we just ignore that? Sure we could bet back to our natural ways but how do we get off banks, and all that comes with that, the enslavement, the disempowerment, the imposed scarcity?

Taiaiake's talk should be required listening for every student at Canada's universities. Resurgence is the way to go for Indigenous peoples and for Canada the way to go is to listen and to deconstruct the fictions it has created.
