As a soon-to-be self-published author myself, I LOVE this story review format with the different categories (plot, prose, etc.) so much! May I suggest that you also pull examples for each point? E.g. with the prose, you could show a few paragraphs that highlight what you like and what you don't. Keep up the good work! :D

Thanks for reviewing self-published books! You can really get a sense for the author’s passion for the project, so I’ll be sure to check these out

As a self publishing author I am glad to see we are getting some love. Would be great if more indie books are reviewed. It builds hope for those of us who haven't gone the traditional method

Amazing video! I absolutely adore the Threadlight series and am counting down the hours until midnight, when Bonds of Chaos is finally released!! Also, maybe I am just very lucky, but I actually haven't had a single bad experience with self-pub. Sure, there have been ones that I felt a bit lukewarm on, but nothing that I found extremely poor in quality or anything. There have honestly been WAY more traditionally published series that have been complete misses for me. Keep spreading the self-pub love, we love to see it!

Commenting before watching... this feels like a type of video that if you don't have a lot of positive things to say about this series, its definitelly gonna come across as punching down 😅 risky business! I'm sure it will be great as usual!!!

Funny, cause before even watching my assumption is that this is a clickbait title and the creator will be very positive about this series and self-published books on the whole. Otherwise he wouldn’t even talk about it the first place (why alienate indie authors who are the source of ARCs for many reviewers - that would be bad business).

A helpful video! I just started this series now that the third book is out; I'm enjoying it so far, especially the world-building.

Hmmm. I haven't read any of this series, but I'm not so sure about the thought that traditional publishers would want to slow the pace in any way. In my experience of being read by the gatekeepers of traditional publishing, I found that most seem to be pushing for faster pace rather than deeper exploration. I think current conventional wisdom in the industry is "grab 'em and keep pulling them along." There seems to be little faith in the attention spans of current readers, although I think (in a very hopeful way) that this might be changing. Really excellent format and analysis. I'd agree. Now more so than ever before, dedicated self-publisher who's willing to invest in his work can keep up with traditionally published books, or even exceed the quality of most. Thanks for putting the spotlight on self-pub once again! I believe that content like this is really moving the needle in regard to consumer perception.

I'm an aspiring author who plans to self-publish. I am definitely for hiring a professional cover artist and editors. It is a hefty investment, but considering the time and effort it takes to write a novel, it's worth it to put out the best version of your work possible.

So, where do you hear about these self-published series? Considering they are was less known and aren't advertised in like, Barnes & Noble. Where can I go to find some?

It's nice that you're reviewing self published author's work. I am a self published author of coloring books and soon a fiction novel (almost done editing it), this is nice to see that self published works are getting some attention.

What a great review format. This is really tackling general stereotypes regarding self published (that it always have to be bad quality). I think it's such a common thing to say "self published literature is the options for authors who can't really write". But style of prose does not make it bad, that's a matter of personal taste a lot. However, having errors is another matter. I've read traditional published series where the authors prose is pretty poor too. I think a lot comes down to having a good editor and beta readers. I think self published authors can produce great work if they have the opportunity to have a good editor.

This is good case study for why we prefer "indie" to "self-published." Somebody who just wants to get to the publishing stage can get there without much trouble. An indie author will independently recruit alpha and beta readers, make multiple rounds of revisions, hire a good editor, and hire a good cover artist. That's actually more effort than what a lot of traditionally published books get, not less. Glad to see this is a series that holds up.

For me, it doesn't have to be all that good. I will read any trash as long as it holds my attention.

Sometimes you just want to watch a brain off movie that you can just enjoy without deeper thought. While books are a different medium, it does hold true to a certain extent.

That it's somehow surprising to you that a self-published book could be good... feels a decade or two out of sync with the times. I thought this stigma was firmly in the past.
