LibreLink iOS -how to turn iPhone into Libre reader

iPhone app to scan your Freestyle Libre app is finally out and i've got all the details for you.
iOS LibreLink app allows you to activate and also scan your FSL sensor. This app has been avalible for android for a while and now its finally availbale for iPhone.
You can use it in two ways:
1:20 TO USE BOTH READER AND iPHONE: Scan your new Libre sensor with FSL reader and then with your iPhone during the activation period
1:55 IF YOU DONT HAVE A READER: Scan your new Libre sensor with a LibreLink app to activate the sensor and keep using your app to receive readings.

Is there a way to export raw data (from Libreview?) when scanning with only the iPhone -- like one can do with the reader and the Freestyle Libre computer programme? I'm talking about the csv file that you can then export in excel to tinker with.

It's unfortunate that freestyle libre problems with my Ambrosia it wont work as a continuous cgm I think they have bloked the apps for frestyle libre2 or I need to find a better app for my phone. Or get miaomiao and try agen. Any sagestions.

@Nerdabetic your videos are giving me a much need education on all the new tech out there. I keep my diabetic head in-ground for the past few years and was so ignorant. Currently, I have a Freestyle Libre and iPhone 6... which I am quite disappointed that it is not supported for the LibreView app. I am looking into getting a Miao Miao or Nightwatcher + Spike App to work around the absence of the Flash Check feature and just go straight for a CGM. CGM > push data, but out of curiosity are you, or any other KZbinrs, area of a workaround that will let me use my iPhone 6 with the reader? Or are we just royally screwed and slaves to Apple's updates. For diabetics now is a time of a lot of exciting new technologies, which often require smartphones, yet it's hard to know which way to go. Andriod or iOS? I guess this answer for each person will partially be answered by what their insurance companies or budgets will allow. Best regards mate and hope your sugars are riding well!

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful when I started using the LinkBluCon app to see readings. Now I use Libre Sensor with NightRider BluCon after my doctor advised. I bought it from Ambrosia System based in San Francisco, it converted the FreeStyle Libre Sensor into a Full CGM. Also, my parents can see my glucose readings on their phone.

Good video. I used the iOS app solely on my 2 week trial. Back to finger pricking now as I just fall short on the criteria in Somerset for my hba1c level. But with the Libre I was working to that goal. Hopefully my nurse can get my doctor on board.

Thanks so much. I totally understand you. I would fall into my local hba1c criteria 2 years ago before self-funding libre but now its too good. And in order to get it on prescription, I would need to stoop self-funding it and wait for my HBA1C to rise a lot and then I would get it. I just hope they will understand how stupid this is.

I am now using the IPhone app and can confirm that it is very good. The readings are similar to the Freestyle reader. The good thing now is that I can just carry my phone and do not need the reader all of the time. Just one question, is there any further news on the Libre giving real-time results? I saw you mention this in one of your videos. That would be a fantastic feature if/when it happens. Many thanks. John.

Hi Kamil, great video as usual... Thanks ! One detail you might be interested in.... I use Diasend too and I used to upload my sensor statistics with the reader and have now swapped that with the IOS app, but unfortunately it does only transfer the glucose level readings and not the manually added details of meals, insulin, excercise etc... I did notify Abbott and Diasend on Twitter of this, not sure if they will follow up on it though... keep up the good work !

I know that IT team at Abbott have been working on this app for 7 months and they are very good at what they are doing and its surprising that they haven't added that in the original release. Thank you for your video. I just started using Freestyle Libre this morning and the experience was very frustrating. (1) It is Saturday morning and Abbot Phone support is closed until Monday morning. (2) There is no way to know if it works until you have pricked it on the arm. (3) There are no instructions about how to take it out just in case of something going wrong. (4) I pricked mine new on my arm and the phone was not doing anything. It was not possible to read it. (5) I started looking at videos about how NFC works in order to understand the process of reading or activating it I realised the available documentation is really bad and poor quality. You just see people reading the glucose level just approaching the phone to it but I actually had to put my phone on top of the reader for about 2 minutes until I saw a new screen telling me that the device will be started in one hour. I've never seen this process in any documentation from abbot. So this is still very young application/device and will require couple of years to mature and for abbot to update all documentation and explain the process very clearly for every possible device.

I was wondering if it’s possible to scan using the iphone without using first opening the app. Ie. is it possible to say go into the “wallet” mode using the short cut of double taping the home button (iPhone 7/8) or power button (iPhone X) they scanning the sensor that way?

Thanks. Very good question. No, Becasue that double tap shortcut is exclusive for Apple Pay and wallet. In the future, apple might allow 'quick access' to certain apps though home screen but currently it is not possible 😒😄

Also, I’m using a double-sided tape and that works well but it requires a help from somebody when taking it off before shower/ swimming. And I absolutely love your videos. Hi, I had followed you last year when I noticed a video on here about turning freestyle libre sensor into a cgm. Your videos are really informative. I have just recently upgraded my iphone 6 to an iphone 8 so that I can scan with my phone as well as with my reader. I had activated my sensor with the reader first because I did not have the iphone 8 yet. I have 5 days left on the sensor and have already downloaded the app to the phone but it’s not scanning. I was going to try calling abbott and see if there was a time window I had to scan with the app, but they are closed till monday. Wanted to make sure it was not the iphone 8 nfc that was messed up and could not read it. By any chance do you know if i have to scan withe the reader first and then within the 1hr time of activation scan with my phone? I also tried looking online for information, but there is none. You can use the Bluetooth transmitter like NightRider to see the readings every 5 minutes on iPhone 6 as well as on iPhone 7

If you scan the sensor with the reader first, then you can use both the reader and your phone. However, you must scan with the reader first. If you do so with your phone, than you eill only be able to use your phone to scan that sensor.

Hi, yes, you need to wait for a new sensor and activate your iPhone using 1 of 2 ways that ive described in the video. Nightrider can be used at any time so you can start using it as soon as it arrives. Probably SPIKE app is the best now. Hi. There is a way and i know a friend of mine who basically installed it through a computer as .ipa file ( i hope you know what that means) and managed to open it. But when he tried to scan the sensor to activate it, a message saying: THIS SENSOR IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS APP, PLEASE TRY A COMPATIBLE SENSOR message appeared. Basically, the US sensor has a very different software and that's why it cant work with this app. But dont worry it's not only the US, I know other people tried to do the same thing and I'm not familiar with a single success scan outside of the EU. I can only say that abbott is trying to launch it but as we all know FDA is not as forward-looking as their European colleagues. I hope you will get it soon.

I guess I’m just going to have to wait a little while longer for something to be officially released in the US. As it is, though, it really seems like a lot of what actually was released here was simply rushed, without regard to much of the technology aspect, at least relative to the user interface. Thanks again for providing such a needed discussion on the subjects that the type-1 diabetes community wants and needs to talk about. You’re really doing a fantastic job!

Hi. It’s a very specific topic and it all comes down to the US regulation and FDA. It’s very similar to G6 shutdown arguments. It’s basically FDA saying to Abbott that they need to turn sensor off after 10 days. And there is a way around that and I’ve done a video on it called extending your Freestyle Libre sensor 😆😊

Hi, it is very difficult to say because we don't know a lot about Libre 2 but stay tuned for more information as I gather more information.

You don't need to wait for the Libre 2 as it may take long time before it will be available in your country and phones may get more old. You can use FreeStyle Libre first generation with the NightRider from Ambrosia to get more features including glucose readings every 5 minutes on mobile phone and watch.

Yes, you should have scanned it with the reader first and then the iphone. And the app should display exaclty what the reader does. The BG and graph. I hope that helps 🙂

FOR THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN PLACES WHERE THE APP IS NOT SUPPORTED!!! (sorry beforehand for the english mistakes. Its not my first language) I live in Portugal and we dont have the app here yet. What i did was use a vpn (the one i used is called Turbo vpn) and then put in a contry that supports the app (Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom) then you go to your phones definitions > aplications > google play > force stop > clean cache. Then you open the google play store again and search for the app. It should show now. You wont have to keep the vpn on that country forever but leave it running in the seeting up. I dont know if the app will be in your language (i did it with the vpn in germany because we use mg/dl and the app transleted to portuguese). It must be similar to do this in ios. I know this is confusing to understand and i dont really know how to explain it but if you have question ask away :))

Right after your video and because I have iPhone x I bought a libre sensor for the first time My only previous experience was a 14days trial of Dexcom g4 I use libre for 18 hours and my first impression is that it is not accurate , at least so far

Thanks. A lot of users mind accuracy to be bad in the first 24 and I hope that it will be better. Also, like I’ve explained in one of my videos, the way the glucose molecules are captured by the Freestyle Libre and eversense is totally different to the dexcom and enlite. If you use Freestyle Libre 2 yes. But you can get 3rd party transmitters with Libre 1 and have alarms also.

Hi. so you need to scan it during the activation process. So next time you apply your sensor, scan it with your reader first and then in your 1 h activation window, scan it with your iPhone. Also, your country has LibreLink right? 😆😀

I went on the UK Abbott website to buy the sensors but was told that only existing customers could purchase them and they would put me on a waiting list for when they become available. I finally get app from UK store. Issue is like my sensors are for Argentinian market reading give an error. I call Abbott in Argentina and in US and no one can give me a solution. I think that all devises are produces in the same factory so basically are all the same with deferents packages. I don't understand in the actual global word they made so differences between costumers in different markets.

Also, if you want to get readings every 5 minutes you can use NightRider BluCon with the Libre Sensor so you don't have to scan and can also share readings in real-time with our loved ones. You will also be able to see readings in Apple Health App if you use LinkBluCon app from Ambrosia

I activated my moms sensor with my smartphone. Now her handheld reader wont read the sensor. What do we do?

In order to use both, you need to activate with reader first and then app. She won’t be able to use the reader with this particular sensor

@@Nerdabetic That is not what I was asking. You asked siri what is my blood sugar and it just went to the health data of the previous readings. Can you tell Siri to take your sugar through the Freestyle Libre app and not have to push the button?
