Transcribing full solos has its perks... but dang sometimes I just wanna grab a lick and go. Let's do it!!!
(I apologize for my voice microphone's background noise. I couldn't get rid of it for the life of me. Literally as I was editing this, I was like: "Enough is enough. This Sony wireless mic ain't cuttin' it." Then I went on Amazon and impulse bought a real professional wireless mic setup. I am hype for it. It arrives this Saturday. My voice is about to be crisp af!!!!!)
Also, idk who is reading this but I think I am really about to get a Yamaha Custom EX! I'm freakin' hype! Not only that, I think the NEXUS altos are almost done! Chad sent me a video of him playing one and it sounded so freakin good. I need one now! Please!!!!!

Man I haven’t watched you in a while, and I’m starting classes in a few weeks. I’m going to a high school that focuses more on music and those types of art forms. This whole summer I felt very uninspired to practice. Plus I got a new saxophone from the school that I’m not really comfortable with, but I practiced a few minutes before watching this video. Now that I’m watching you again it has inspired me a bit to practice and get back to my old habits. I haven’t been enjoying playing my instrument, but I feel like we’ve all had a point where we felt that. Now that I’m going to a new school that’s going to help me learn more about my instrument I hope I’ll be inspired to play my sax again. Watching you again is honestly helping me with that- so thank you- a lot.

It seems to be such a simple idea to just learn some licks and record it but it just goes to show that sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. And the way you do that is just brilliant. Thanks for great content and inspiration!

He's got a version of perfect pitch but it's not perfect pitch. Also, he has a wide vocabulary, so if he hears something, he can use his vocabulary to identify it. The simplest example would to be able to tell if something is chromatic or going up or down a scale diatonically.

Idk about Nathan but what i do when i try to transcribe is listen carefully to find the key, then get the first notes and try to recognize familiar patterns and just work on that, then i try it out and if it feels weird or sounds off i change a bit mess with the basics of rhythm (like maybe it was a dotted quarter note or something that threw me off), I'm not as fast tho i only do it to practice listening is a good skill tbh
