The Arabic melody that you hear when you played the Spanish has an explanation. There is a connection. Way back in the day Spain was almost entirely ruled by the Moors for over 700 years. Hence the Arabic influence is present in Spanish architecture, music, cuisine, as well with other cultural similarities.

During the spread of Islam the muslims invaded southern ibera and eventually conquered the entire iberian peninsula. This is also true for all of North Africa, southern italy and southern france. Multible raids and conquests darkened the general skintone of the population trough years of population replacement. Spaniards are therefore a little darker than what they used to be.

From a beginner: Started fiddling with wife’s guitar a year ago. Felt like I got further in the last few days with you and this song than the whole prior year. And unlike all the guitar book songs, everyone likes to hear it. You are a Great, patient teacher. Only because I am a real novice and for others like me, if you could please spell the chord fingering, especially the unusual fingered ones, out one time, a little slower and one finger at a time so that we see and it sinks in. Then can play it back a million times til we get it.

Thanks for this. One of the first 'tunes' I learned on guitar was Malaguena, and I still use it today by segueing from it into Stairway . I wish I had studied this style more over the years and I've just had a very satisfying few hours 'doodling' with the essence of your tutorial. I didn't look at the tab, rather went by ear and mistakenly started with top e 5-4-1-0. This worked as well, so wondered how that fits in with the 'theory' (which after 40 odd years I'm now starting to study). Thanks again.
