More of this, please. You make some really fine equipment, but it’s your playing that always knocks me out. Anything to understand how you do that thing is much appreciated.

Thanks, Simon. I enjoyed that. Love the theory talk. I've been playing since I was 15 and at 69 I'm just learning the actual theory of why notes go together or don't. It's a whole new language. Also, you have a real knack for explaining the technical bits! Your "That Pedal Show" episodes are some of my favorites. Please continue!

Ooo. love that. Adjusting the already familiar scale of the parent instead of focusing on the non-diatonic notes based on the scale of the chord you are on.... That was an awesome nugget! Cheers Mr.Jarrett!

Simon: If you have a tone pot affecting the bridge pickup, you must have rewired the Strat. On every Strat I've ever played, the tone controls affect only the middle and neck pickups. So, how do the tone controls work after the rewiring; that is, which controls affect which pickups? Thanks for this video. I love your playing! 😎 UPDATE: Never mind. I just watched LTT3, where you answered that very question. Thanks again!

Simon, I'm very happy you found time to make these. Playing over changes is still a bit of a magic to me. The theory is great, but I struggle coming up with practice exercises. I try to noodle around to easy chord changes or tunes but i feel I may be practicing the wrong things and so not really improving much. Sounds that your pedals make is something that inspires me to continue practicing though.

Would you consider expanding on this discussion of caps in part 2? I’m very interested in this as I’ve found my strat tone control just goes to mud land. Fantastic info you presented here though. Main questions: 1) will smaller caps change pickup sound in wide open position or only when rolled off? 2) what are the potential downsides of smaller caps? I thought the midrange focus that was given sounded amazing but are there potential downsides too?

Fantastic video Simon, thanks for the tips. I got a custom pre-wired pickup pickguard for my strat last year and experimented with the values of the caps a bit. I'm happy with the volume pot which is audio, but I want to change the tone pots with different value caps. I have 0.022uf for Tone 1 which controls the neck and middle, and 0.01uf for the bridge. I like them but they are still not very linear sounding like yours in the video. There's the audible "wah" effect for the first tone pot between 0-3 which I don't really like. Bridge tone pot is a definitely more linear but the audible difference is a bit smaller that I'd like. Both my tone pots are linear and not logarithmic, should I go back to audio ones? I just want my tone pots exactly how you have them in this video, usable from 0 to 10 without having that wah effect in between, but with audible difference to get more tones out of them. Any help would be appreciated. Excellent playing by the way, can't wait for LTT2.

The bridge and neck are original '64 Fender Strat pickups. Not sure, but I think the middle is an American standard.
