One of the most musical and beautiful Mira o Norma duet performances ever.

margaret harshaw was and is the proper voice for the voice of adalgisa. at that time she was a mezzo,but later on she became a soprano!!and a good one!!she did not change technique,she just change register,the voice sounds the same,even in all register,majestic and solid. for me she is the perfect voice for the con troversial role of adalgisa!!
@edwardamosbrandwein35834 жыл бұрын
The role of Adalgisa, though commonly performed by a mezzo, was actually written for a soprano (Giulia Grisi)

I know that, it's nothing new.

While rehearsing, Harshaw took the final high note with Milanov. MH told us (students at IU) ZM became indignant and pulled rank. You can hear the result at the end of the recording

très beau. merci...et on voit la technique qui permettait une Wagnerienne chanter Bellini avec grace, comme ça a été conçu d'origine...

I was Margaret Harshaw's last student. She haunts me to this day. This KZbin popped up when I intended to watch something else.

Lucky you. Saw her many times at the Mer. Great great Ortrud Isolde, Brynhilde Kundry

@@ransomcoates546 For two years, I accompanied MH's students (and even her sometimes!) at IU and found her to be so kind and generous to her students. There were always students hanging around her studio door, just to be close to her and listen to her teaching other students. She was so greatly loved and respected. Also, she was responsible for me receiving the first ever assistantship (paid internship) in accompanying at IU. I'll never forget my time with her. It was fantastic.

Beautiful, thank you (Milanov has a sound of Rosa Ponselle here)
@stephengoldman5536 жыл бұрын
It is true. She does sound like Ponsell. Two exquisitely beautiful voices blended to perfection. This is like their Bjoreling/Merrill pear Fishers duet in quality and substance

Wonderful, even if they do sound like 2 sopranos which is no surprise considering how Harshaw ended up by the 1950’s. Anyway, I think in Bellini’s time this similarity would not have been remarked upon to any great degree.

I don't like Milanov at all but I fully respect her since I saw her refusing to applaud Horne at the MET. Maybe a technically improvable singer but, no doubt, a brave woman.
@davidmolina75434 жыл бұрын
I had the same experience when I saw her at the Met not applauding for Marilyn Horne.

Why that Ortrud photo of Harshaw? Most uncomplimentary in this instance, particularly with Milanov glammed up with brooch and fur.
@Triosfrios2 жыл бұрын
Margaret should have stayed ad a mezzo.
@hrh4961 Жыл бұрын
She, herself, said she was never a mezzo, only a soprano waiting for her body to become strong and mature enough to sustain those hochdramatische roles.
