I have learned not to expect anything specific from Geoff, because he always surprises me. He is a phenomenal artist, arranger and vocalist.

I love that Geoff dances a fine line between the original and Disturbed to create his own take. Simon & Garfunkel = warning Disturbed = anger Geoff = regret/sorrow All have their own beauty. I am ALWAYS skeptical or anxious with loved songs as well, but I've come to trust Geoff/Voiceplay

This version really speaks to me. As a person that deals with depression this version captures the turmoil of waves of depression. It shows the low quietness but then shows us a burst of high where we have a chance to come out of it!!!

I dealed with depressions too over years. After a lot of time i found the way out. But a little piece of this is still inside of me, it’s a part of my life, and it‘s good, how it is. Wish you the best❤️

I've loved this song for more than 50 years. I didn't know how to respond to Geoff's version knowing it was really good but it was wiping out the version I'd loved for so long. I ran it through a couple more times and settled into the emotional content, the inability to change what was happening "in the words that it was forming", and the beautiful music. I think Geoff's rendition is so pertinent today and it brought up so many feelings. I have to say that Simon and Garfunkel's goes into a separate slot on my music list, but Geoff earned that slot that I'll reach for when I want to listen to this song. I have listened to disturbed, and acknowledge that it is very good, but the relentless anger is not who I am. Geoff is so much closer to my thoughts when those lyrics get into my psyche.

Honestly, I had never heard any of the versions of this song, it's the first time I've heard it, and I think the lyrics are deep. I really liked how Geoff presented it and I loved the strength in his voice.

Geoff is a masterful musician, arranger and performance artist, but to be completely honest, I hear more musicality and beauty in his vocal mid-ranges. The bass notes are phenomenal, but often disruptive to the flow of the song. I still love to hear his beautiful voice.I agree with you that this song rose out of the basement and soared majestically.

I loved the original song, I loved the cover by Disturbed, and I love this. I have wide musical tastes so have to compare. Just love each for what it is. I think we can always be sure that whatever Geoff does, he does with good taste. He takes liberties for sure but they are always musically pleasing. His emotion in this one bring me to tears, every time I hear it. And that deep subharmonic note sounded to me like a cello.

I quote another KZbin user here, he expressed this so well I kinda have to. 🙂 "Original: Is this anything to worry about? Pentatonix: We can fix this, if we work together. Disturbed: You were warned and NOW YOU MUST PAY. Geoff: I am so, so sorry." I believe this says it all very well. I feel like Geoff's version is the most somber of them all, and even with some burst-like here and there, it always drops out and leaves JUST that breathy, sad-ish, (to me) disheartened "...of silence". 🙂 And his expression and body language tell me pretty much the very same story. 🙂 It took me a few times listening to it, to get a plausible (for me) representation of that "weird-ish", almost dissonant, harmony in the second to last chorus... To me, it represents some sort of inner conflict. As if there were parts wanting to make it "major" and others keeping it "minor", I don't know whether or not it is what happens there, it's just my feeling. And again, it resolves into that "...of silence", as if there were not enough hope left, if I can say so. Maybe it's just me. 🙂 Enjoyed the reaction, as always. Your expressions tell the whole story. Love it. 🙂 See you next time.

@@EchoesOfEmotionReact After posting my previous comment, I realised what kind of "conflict" I was talking about. 🙂 Listen to the lyrics of that specific part... "...But my words like silent raindrops fell and echoed into wells of silence". May the harmonies be "the words themselves", the will, the attempt, to reach to someone (the people worshipping "the neon God they made"), and the "dissonance" be the representation of the words falling and "echoing" (it's the only moment in which his voice and the background voices actually "echo" one each other) into "wells of silence", and the frustration and disheartening of the speaking man? It's not yet very very clear for me either, but somehow it resonates with me. 🙂 Thank you again for your reaction and for taking the time to respond. 🙂

@@EchoesOfEmotionReact Thank you for another great reaction to Geoff. Voice Play is releasing a new song that includes his wife Kathy. The first time I heard Geoff's cover I didn't care for it. But the second time after analyzing it I was floored. His was a sad version that makes more sense with the lyrics. It just pulls at the heart strings, I cried Geoff has a way of reaching deep down into your soul. Disturbed's cover was filled with too much anger. He went overboard with the anger..

The first 8 track tape I ever owned was Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits and thus The Sound of Silence has been one of my top 2 favorite songs for almost 50 years now. There are many other versions I enjoy, although the Disturbed cover isn't one of them, but for me Geoff's version just hit all the emotions for me. I went from chills, to tears, to smiles. By the way, Geoff does almost all his videos at Layne & Tony's Pattycake Productions, including this one. He filmed this the day after VP filmed a video but along with Kathy, Layne was there doing the filming and Eli was there doing the lighting. It makes my heart happy that these guys are a family. 😊

Eli did the lighting for Geoff, and Layne flew the steadycam. They’ve developed a shorthand for working together to realize Geoff’s vision for his videos. And it works. I, too, an happy he used his upper range. I love that sound as much as the lows. VoicePlay has a new one coming out (maybe tomorrow) that has a sweet visual story, as well as great music. I look forward to your reaction to that as well.

From April... Ain't No Sunshine. Way Down. The Rains of Castemere. I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas. Till Then. Voiceplay... Enemy. Good 4 U. Running Up That Hill. I Can't Make You Love Me. In The Hall of The Mountain King. The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late). In My Room.

You know, when I listened to it, I didn't hate it of course, but the raw version of disturbed was still my favorite, but after watching disturbed again after watching geoff, that emotion that I remember was subdued, because it felt much shorter and less variation, so I listened to geoff again, then I realized how good the song he made it, there were lot of good different section and felt longer then disturbed. Idk, I love disturbed but for some reason, the strong raw emotion I remembered wasn't there (trust me, I heard it alot).

Low bass test: If you can't hear the deep bass at the beginning during the piano intro: Buy new headphones or buy a subwoofer. If you her these sounds distorted, throw away your equippment ether way, and buy new stuff....

Ok, so like so often for me, Geoff is the first time I see most of these songs... let's just say I am a pretty boring person and leave it at that. But comparing this to the other two major versions is no better than comparing Oogie Boogie or Friends on the Other Side with the originals. Geoff does not "cover" a song. He takes the words, focuses on the meaning, and makes a totally new song that you just already know the words to.
