I can tell you why: In the last seconds a stupid guy in the audience screamed "Bravo!" before Barenboim lowered his arms. You could see Barenboim freezing face expression about such idiocy.

@@DonAlfonso63 Yeah, I know the complete video and also saw the live broadcast back then. Wrong audience for this opera. There should be silence instead, after the last note faded out, just to feel the magic of the moment. And then a slowly growing applause. Definitely not the moment to burst into the silence with Bravo etc. Applause was long enough for a lot of Bravos a bit later...

Actually the "Scala" audience is culturally of a high level, but you can find a black sheep in the best families....🤷🏻‍♂️
