Rivers Cuomo isn’t Weezer, he’s the lead singer / songwriter of Weezer. You cannot discredit Patrick because he stuck by Rivers side from the start. Also, Brian & Scott add amazing elements to the band and helped shape them into what they are now. I’m not trying to oversell the other members of the band or undersell Rivers. I understand that most of Weezer’s content & ideas come from Rivers, but he has a great support group behind him, and it’s not a revolving door of members

@florisbackx17445 жыл бұрын
Same here! That album came just as I had developed more of taste for darker music. The combination of the uncompromising and brutal sound with sugar sweet melodies immediately hit the bullseye for me. It is also without any doubt the most honest and sincere album Rivers ever wrote lyric wise. Too bad he never recovered from the negative reactions to Pinkerton. Every album after (except maybe for the green album) feels like he is taking on a role or used themes and structures to write songs. There are some youtube interviews where he explains his writing process and it all revolves around writing catchphrase like lines that sound cool in a book. During the song creation process drops them in randomly and later ties them together into context that sounds like it has a meaning. Once you know this and listen to the later songs it just sounds like.... like a product not like a story that needed to be told or a song that needed to be made. The few times he did write about things close to him after Pinkerton like Foolish Father and Eulogy for a Rockband clearly stand out from the more 'generic' stuff.

Thank you, Weezer. This is for Rivers, primarily, but it's for all of Weezer, thanks: Thank you, Rivers. I appreciate you owning your music, and what it was written for. I think, for most of us, that black room that led to The Black Album is a place we have all resided, either literally, figuratively, or both. I can speak for myself, and know that I have been in that room. I relate to your story and your music on a personal level. Thank you for being honest about your life, and for sharing your experience openly. It truly helps your fans become a fan of themselves. I find life can be that blackened room, that blackened house, and I have hope that we are all doing what we can to get onto our own stage, release attachment to our own personal and collective street theaters, and sing our hearts out, regardless of whether or not we have an audience. One of my friends once told me, "dance like no one is watching". Keep singing, Rivers. Keep playing in the light. Your journey is an archetype for many to bear witness, and your strength gives me strength to stay out of the dark and embrace myself in the light. I think, more than anything, as a fan and as a person doing my best to live life filled with happiness, I would love to hear an album about your life now, about how Buddhism and meditation, family and children, music and creativity, have transformed your tears into diamonds. We grow with you, we have kids ourselves, and personally, I want to hear all about your journey into spirituality, into and out of yourself, the four noble truths, the eightfold path, a beautiful wife, two beautiful children, creating videos and music that fulfills and conquers the hard times. I want to emulate that, and would be excited to hear more of your happy. We support your happy, all of Weezer's happy. That's what family us for. Thank you for sharing your incredible journey, I am excited to hear more of your musical sunshine, freshly squeezed! ♡, Christina Cook, Tyren's mom.

The thing about Weezer, their music is so different, so personal to them, it takes a while for your brain to process it and let it sink in. You have to listen to it a few times. When you mentioned fan interaction, how could you not bring up Rivers' Let's Write a Sawng series? He wrote an entire song with the fans, that was even released on their death to false metal album.

Rivers is a fantastic guitarist. Super underrated. I still can’t believe he started ripping Malmsteen covers on the guitar in the 80’s. I only respect him more now! 🤘🏻

Another great video sir! Weezer was a large part of my discovery of alternative music in my youth and this was a cool video, learned a lot about Rivers that I didn't know. I'm one of the people you mentioned that rate their first two albums as their best. The third wasn't bad though, although more "pop rock" it had some songs that got stuck in my head for a while. Really enjoy your channel!

I remember in 2018 at a concert in Illinois, Rivers rode past the crowd on a razor scooter. Best first concert ever.

As a musician and huge fan of Weezer, I hope Rivers knows how much his music has influenced me. My band was The Wenzels on the tribute to weezer album playing Mykel and Carli, who I had also interacted with before their tragic passing.

I think that Rivers is one of the most misunderstood rockstars of our times. He came out with this record that he put his blood, sweat, and tears into and the world took it and ripped it up. But then years later, they are practically begging him to play these songs that they absolutely hated before. Obviously this is going to freak him out and release horrible music that the mainstream media would like. I really feel bad for him (and the rest of the band that had to experience this as well).
