As I later found out, you can actually remove the poison from this area and fight the boss on normal ground. If you progress through the rest of the area and reach the two NPCs Red Fox & Black Cat, there's a switch in the pipes behind them that removes the poison. However, I didn't know that at the time, so I fought the boss like this. It still gets the job done, but if you don't want to be stuck in a corner for 6 minutes, find the lever first.

If you progress through the level and pull down a specific lever - it drains the corruption pool and you can duke it out without the drama!

Super late but from the Workshop Union Culvert stargazer, climb the ladder on the left hand side and follow the path round. Go right when the path splits and you'll reach the ladder.
