This is pretty much a must - not only does it protect the screen from scratches and cracks, it also protects it from dust so you won't film with dust particles.

nice but sony should at least give us an option here to insert a ND or polariser filter. would make this protector more versatile
@BurnoutsAndBourbon7 жыл бұрын
Armin Hirmer yes!! I’ve been searching for days to try and find an ND option

How do you protect the lens protector? Does it come with a plastic cover or something?

it's pretty durable, i commute with the dashcam on helmet all the time and the protector has done it's job. So far no scratches

Have you experienced some bad looking flares with the X3000? Many ppl complain about this. Maybe this protector eliminates it completely?
@TheGizmoGarage7 жыл бұрын
JohnnyBeFilms I have not, but looking at the shape of the lens protector it does offer kind of a "lens hood" effect by blocking some unwanted lights from getting into the lens. However also keep in mind the extra glass also introduce additional possibilities for flare between the lens and the protector. But it's better to have the protector on regardless. As the lens on X3000 is easily damaged or scratched.
@JohnnyBeFilms7 жыл бұрын
Yea yea, sure. But do you think this specific lens on X3000 is more proned to scratch than on other cams, like older AS200? And great that you didn't notice any bad lens flares - really many ppl complain about it compared to other action cams. That's a shame but if you haven't experienced it maybe it's not that bad at the end.

The crazy thing is I had to send the camera back only after a few weeks of using it because the memory card slot failed and produced the "card not recognized" error regardless of what card I've tried to put in, it just wouldn't read... I'm left with a whole bunch of accessories I just bought and no camera to use... However, I was really impressed with the optical stabilization of the camera.
@JohnnyBeFilms7 жыл бұрын
But they accepted your complaint and will send you send you a new one/repaired? Also, didn't you experience any overheating issues? Many ppl complains about it too with X3000. If only the X1000 had even at least an electronic IS I wouldn't think for a sec and grab it as it's more than twice cheaper than the X3000 here, where I live.

I just returned it for full refund.. Yes since you mentioned, it run on the HOT side after just 5 min or so. Just like my Sony A6300 when recording 4k movies... Longest I've tested on X3000 of continues recording is about 50 min of 1080@60p before battery died.

It's square because of the field of view of the lens. If it was round you would lose the edges of the film.

Lens is convexed, not concaved. Sorry to nit pick your EXCELLENT video.

If the square shape is wrong, why not buy the round one, It’s cheaper?

I thought it was made of plastic. I was afraid of braking the lens so I bought this Lens Protector, but now i'm afraid of smashing the glass of the lens protector.

Stupid Sony engineers. No reason to make that rectangular. And, like you said, not sure you could carry the camera in your pocket with the protector on, and it has to be on. When I go hiking, I take my Sony AS200V/R with its round lens protector on and I easily carry it in my pocket. And I was thinking about upgrading to the X3000, too, but that bulky, rectangular lens protector will probably be a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the review.

I'm wondering if it's not because it's easier for the water drops to wash away from the lens if it's straight like this rather than a little bit rounded. Just a thought, not sure. But I also wish it was rounded as on my AS200...
@dafringe7 жыл бұрын
I'm okay with it being flat glass, just not inside a rectangular housing. Seems like they could have made the housing round so it would fit in a pocket. However, if you intend to mount the remote on the camera, doesn't really matter because it still wouldn't fit in a pocket. I'm about to buy the Zoom H1 with the Rode SmartLav+ mic to get better audio on my hikes when the wind is blowing. It would be nice to carry the Zoom H1 in one pocket and the Sony X3000 in the other pocket until needed.

Yea, you're right. Although maybe it was a must to avoid any worse lens flare effect - I dunno, just guessing. The old protector for AS200/X1000 has a red dot in the middle while filming straight into the sun and this new one doesn't. Anyway, I'm still torn between the X1000 and X3000. The price difference is twice here, where I live. I'm sure I would be missing the stabilization in 4K with the X1000 but maybe there is some decent gimbal for it. Those of which I was reading reviews have got problems with buzzing motors - ppl think that it might be because the X1000 is too heavy for them. I really don't know what to decide. Currently using the AS200 which is really great but I miss better quality in slow-mo modes like 720@120p. The 1080@120p on X1000 would be much better for me, especially as it records in XAVCS in 120/240p from what I;ve read. That's just great as our AS200 can get us only low quality MP4 in 120p, not mentioning the lower resolution (720p vs 1080p on the X series). ALso, the X3000 has got much better image in terms of less fish-eye effect. Damn - if only the price was lower for the X3000... Oh, and I've heared that the X3000 has got bigger problems with overheating than the X1000. It might be the optical stabilization that brings more heat...
@dafringe7 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't have a lot of need for slo-mo, but I would really like to explore 4K video, specifically pulling high quality still images from 4K frames, instead of having to switch back and forth between shooting video and shooting stills. However, from the shortcomings you have pointed out, that pretty much turned me off to the X3000, at least for the time being.
@JohnnyBeFilms7 жыл бұрын
I think I'll patiently wait for the price drops on X3000 and get one if it comes close to ~300€/$. I'm just not willing to spend more on the action cam.
