The best advice I could give a newly self-employed person is that you should get a routine: wake up every day at the same time, eat at the same times as if you were working for a company, dress up every day and most of all, keep your house clean and clutter free... Kisses!!

I was a university lecturer before making the jump into a FT author life. Now I write what I love and I have the best life. You are going to do great just as long as you give yourself 'thinking' breaks. It's too easy to let tasks that feel work-like fill the whole day. Creativity is like a sourdough starter. Give it time, some space of its own, and plenty of rest. (BTW, failure can be part of a good process -- I made a loss in my first year, and was glad of my savings. Each year since has been profitable in multiple ways.) My main advice: Enjoy!

I moved to RURAL Japan (closest town over 100,000 people was 2 hours away) without knowing anyone and having a tenuous grasp of the language at best. It was tough and I would do so many things different but I am so so so glad I did it. I made lifelong friends, grew massively as a person, and even met my husband there. Taking risks doesn't have to be all good or all bad, sometimes you can just be grateful that you did it.

That must've taken some serious "balls". Did you move alone ? And what exactly led you to moving out so far away ( I'm assuming you moved from the U.S ) ?
@deedeelong9043
@deedeelong9043 9 ай бұрын
@@naazahs9045 I actually moved from Canada but it's pretty much the same difference distance wise! I was alone personally but I was also working with a company that made sure I was set up with an apartment so I didn't navigate that on my own. I always told people I did it because it was a childhood dream but the truth is more that I needed a reset in my life. I started working professionally (think high rise office buildings, having "clients", that sort of thing) quite young and was burnt out by 24. I knew a bit of Japanese from high school classes so I decided to jump ship and give it a go.

I know most of you guys are already tired of hearing this and you're very much aware of the situation, but it still manages to baffle me when I hear that being unemployed or employed in a non-traditional job in the US makes you lose your right to be cured without going bankrupt. I'd be worried about going down a ramp of stairs or crossing the street knowing that I'm one slippery step away from owing tens of thousands to a hospital

You don’t have to be employed to have health insurance here but you lose the employer paying a portion of your premium as a benefit of working for them. In this country it’s offered as an employer paid benefit to add to your overall compensation. I don’t see what’s strange about that. Medical care is expensive and someone needs to pay for it. If people want to quit their jobs and do KZbin for a living they lose the benefits their company offered them. KZbin provides cash now but zero benefits. None. I don’t understand how people think it worth quitting their actual jobs for.

For all of you that think universal healthcare is so great, do your research. Believe me, you don’t want the government controlling your healthcare. The public system is in dire need of fixing but to think we should expect our government to support our whims and career changes is just nuts and perhaps VERY millennial. Where do you think the money comes from? It’s not free.

It's an adjustment period so give yourself some grace. Establishing yourself takes time. I started over at 43--quit my job, sold my house, left my marriage, moved 500 miles away. Did it work out perfectly? NOPE! Am I glad I did it? 100%. If my only takeaway from it was proving to myself what I'm capable of ... well, that's enough for me. Also: loved the Sinatra-pancakes montage!

I worked for myself for 15 years in the creative field, you need to set some time aside for yourself everyday as you can easily burn yourself out again. I used to take a walk through my neighbourhood before I would start work everyday in the early mornings for about 30 to 45 mins, and then take another break in the afternoon for about 45-60 mins and get out of the house. You have to do this religiously, it helps break up your day and creatively it gives you a break and refreshes you.

I was so close to visitingNYC at one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity. You already look like you have a huge weight lifted off you, it's a glow. I myself picked up my belongings 8 years ago and moved from Los Angeles to San Diego, it was scary leaving a place I always knew and didn't know ANYone here. Fast forward to today, it was the best decision I ever made. It is never perfect but life is so much better and the quality. I went from working in the Real Estate industry to a corporate job for a non-profit that I love and fortunately do not have the stress you did at yours. I have been following you for quite some time and love this for you. You truly embody a single gal with no kids, who is normal, not fake or trying to prove anything, being independent and making her way, and I relate to this fully. Being a 37 year old woman, it's refreshing. Thank you for continuing to make videos and be a light Chelsea. As you grow, make sure to start a PO Box so your followers can send you small gifts :) Cheers to growth, success and finding your happiness. PS, as a WFH gal myself, your space is EVERYthing, so make it cute, cozy and organized, it does wonders for your mental health.

Don’t feel nervous about this new venture you’re on. The hardest part is already past and that’s the foundation you spend the precious three years building (knowing how to make your videos and obtaining a reasonable audience). It will only continue to grow from here! The fact that you’re at a point now where you can make ends meet just through your channel is a solid sign that you’re okay. Keep finding ways to grow your audience. Maybe it’s through algorithms or maybe it’s as much as updating cameras, editing, hand rigs, sound, or finding additional untapped markets or ideas. Routine segments that capture interests. Stuff like that. Because there are three aspects that keep your channel interesting: - Viewers want to know who YOU are; - Viewers want to know what it’s like to live in New York City; - And Viewers want to know ABOUT the city (places to visit, food to eat, culture, architecture, history, etc). Just keep finding ways to hit those points and you’ll be good!

I remember when I use to teach before I became a therapist. I would have 2 1/2 months off from work. My skin looked better, my stomach bloating went away, and I was undeniably the happiest I had ever been. Zero stress and anxiety. Now I have an extremely stressful job that’s super high demand and mentally exhausting. I often think about the “old days” and how much better my mental health was. I envy you! You deserve it ! Thanks for inspiring me ☺️

I spent a few months undoing the stress and found a job in the paper that looked like something I would like. I emailed them asking to consider remote for the position. Two weeks later, they agreed. I applied and Got It! Now I work from home and have a balance of a paycheck and my personal mental health. You def did the right thing. You will land on your feet.

I restarted this year as well. I quit my corporate job because I wasn’t happy. I didn’t have time and it caused anxiety. I needed to step out of my comfort zone and restart. I moved out and started working in retail. The money isn’t great and I work hard at weird hours. Though, I am much better. I have more time and no longer feel anxious. I wanna do something for myself, and grow within my new career. It’s still scary sometimes, but sometimes I get reminders that it was the right decision and you need to do what feels right for YOU. Sometimes, I get self conscious that people my age ( mid 30s) have it all figured out; they have high positions in fancy jobs, kids, properties and an amazing salary while I’m still figuring out my path and sometimes struggle to save. I try to not let those things get to me and just dance to my own rhythm of my unique song ( life). We all struggle, you will be ok ❤️

I worked in pharmacy here in Australia for almost 20yrs, from when I was 17. After leaving the industry and being able to stay home looking after the kids, house, our acreage, animals and garden full time, I was approached by a local who wanted me to clean her home for her fortnightly. Then that one client changed to two clients, and then I realised I actually really love cleaning other people's homes and decided to do it permanently. I'm now a solo cleaner for approx 16 clients that I rotate over 2 weeks. Never, ever did I think this is what I would do for work. But after almost 2 decades of working in Pharmacy, I'm loving less responsibility, more flexibility, better pay and working on my own and for myself. Being a mum of 3 kids, it's exactly what I need! Flexibility to work hours that suit my life 🤗 I'm so happy for you Chelsea! You'll love this shift in your life. Lots of love from Australia xx

I left my toxic job last September and took 6 weeks off to travel around Greece and around the US and to just REST!! It was SO IMPORTANT to recognize my burnout and the fact that I wasn’t sleeping, gained a ton of weight in a short period of time, my depression and anxiety were at an all-time high, and i was crying every day and to do something about it. I had no job lined up but luckily my family and friends supported me and that period of 4 months of unemployment led to my amazing job I have had now for 8 months and my health is dramatically improved. I have a balance, and I’m getting my health back in check. I’m so glad you did what was best for you and ran with it! Best wishes to you! 😊

And then when it was time to get going again, you’d want her to do it intentionally, not compulsively. Rest and self-care baby, that’s what your daughter needs right now! Sometimes not knowing what the outcome is gonna be is exactly what brings us to take risks in the first place. In my early twenties I wanted to start working on film sets, which meant having a very unstable professional life. My frst week on the job I had zero dollars to my name, I couldnt even order a uber when the train broke down that morning! Everything is a risk in a way. It can be very risky to stay somewhere comfortable for too long. Just gotta figure out which type of risk you prefer taking🙂 Thank u for always posting cool content

I just subscribed to your channel. I’m turning 65 early next year but when I was 30 years old I moved by myself to the Bay Area (down the peninsula-Palo Alto) and began a new life. So your story is somewhat relatable (Lordy I wish there was internet then🙄)… I love supporting young women who take chances. I feel strongly I may have been a content creator and/or the like if that had been available at the time. I took many chances. Eventually I met and married a man whom I was with for 21 years. I have three 20-something kids who live in Southern California and I’ve relocated (10 years divorced) to New York State (not NYC area). You absolutely must do what your heart dictates! Do not always follow your head and follow the safe route. “The road less traveled…” is the one that fulfills us the most. You have made the right decision. Do well and keep going. It will be the “making” of you. All best, Sarah☺️🙏🏻🙏🏻

I also love the idea for you of moving the living room to your current bedroom space! It will give you so much more flexibility for furniture options and layout! Also- I think a mirror in your current living room along that large wall parallel from the kitchen window would be awesome- it could help bounce that light around! Sorry for the unsolicited advice, I just love to decorate so much 😂😊.

I recently transitioned from a job where I was going what felt like all the time because I was on call for 12 hours a day. It's been three weeks since I made the transition, and I am still getting used to managing my free time! I appreciate being able to relate to you! I hadn't realized I wasn't subscribed until today, but I look forward to continuing to watch your content! :)

It's critical that you create a scheduled day for yourself and stick to it. Otherwise, you can find yourself easily lost and productivity and a sense of satisfaction will begin to slip away.

Anywho, been following for a few months now and I’m SO HAPPY for you and your new self employed life as a full time KZbinr. You seem happier in the latest video, I’m looking forward to watching more. Sending great vibes from LA!

Love you brought out the boxes and painted the kitchen and everything. So my personal success story: I was a nurse for quite a while and then became a teacher for nurses. You left the regular job for self-employment without taking a break in between. Go rent a cabin at a KOA campground, take a roadtrip to Ohio, do anything to unwind before diving straight into the new life. This is not criticism but just meant to convey the importance of taking advantage of a break between two big points in life. Go shortie!

Chelsea, first of all, I love you and your videos. I discovered your channel 3 months ago while working a job I hated. KZbin recommended it to me when I was watching vlogs from people who live in New York (I've been obsessed with this city since I was a teenager!!) and I've been watching all of your videos ever since. You being you and living your truth gives me hope and acceptance. I left that horrible job last month and decided to write full time - I've been writing things just for myself since I was 8 and now I've given myself the chance to make my dreams come true and write a book! You have been nothing but an inspiration to me and I will always be grateful for that. I recommend your channel to everyone I know!! Now, with you taking the risk and working for yourself, I love and support you even more. We are in this together!!! Big hug from Brazil

Omg, the syrup. I was watching and commented out loud: “oh, that needs to be kept in the fridge. I learned that the hard way.” And then you poured the mold on the pancake and I was like, “oh, you did too!” LOLOL

It' so nice to see how happy you are! And give yourself time, being so burnt out doens't go away in a few days! It doesn't seem as extreme, but when I was in university I quit my 'sensible' major that made me miserable and burnt me out (which is a pretty big deal where I am from, because we have to decide what we want to study in advance and don't have any general classes). Instead I studied literature and religious sciences because I have always been interested in world religions and their impact on societies. I was really scared to never find a job, but now I have a very interesting one and I actually enjoyed university which I didn't before.

This is awesome news and I'm very happy for you!! Your channel popped into my feed a little over a week ago, where the first video that I saw was your "The MOST REALISTIC..... or money back" vlog from a year ago. I have been watching each of your videos in order from that video on and I got to this video last night. While it's not good to see someone struggle, it's been, I guess, refreshing(not sure if proper choice of words, 🙂) to see real life and not the perfect life most try to portray on the Internet. I made some life changes about 10 years ago when life threw a curveball at me and it was the greatest change/decision that I made. I look forward to your future videos, including the new one from today!! May your success continue on and your Channel grow!!

I love the way the music is part of the story, the way it cuts in and out to make room for her to talk, and then it goes away all together after the syrup incident 👨🏻‍🍳’s 💋. Great storytelling!

A year ago I burnt out and made the decision (along with my therapist 🙃) to take some time off. After 7 months of learning to take care of myself and a major reset I am living my dreams. It's not as glamorous and glittery and I thought it would be but I wake up so thankful to be where I am. It's so exciting to get to be on this journey with you! 🫂

I'm on the verge of making a career switch. It has been pretty hard to make a decision, honestly. Your video and the comments are helping me! I'm 27 and from the Netherlands and here you have to basically choose a career when you're 16/17. And I've come to the realization that it's been really ingrained in my brain I HAVE TO walk the path I chose when I was a litteral teenager. But it has been really freeing (but also frightening) to concider doing something different.

When I quit my corporate job to start my own business I sat and watched television for a week. I was paralyzed. I was OMG WTF have I done. A week later I thought nope I’m not going to fail at this, I shut the TV off and added structure. Soooo if I can just offer a little advice, set some parameters for yourself, like work starts at 9 etc. but for the first couple of weeks cut yourself some slack you will find a rhythm. Good luck you will do well!
