Life and times of OR Tambo/Renaming of Jan Smuts Airport

The unveiling of the statue of Oliver Reginald Tambo comes 10 years after Johannesburg International Airport was officially renamed OR Tambo International. Before 1994, the landing airfield was called Jan Smuts Airport after the former Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. The renaming to OR International stirred some controversy since the government had previously decided to no longer name airports after politicians. The following documentary was produced in 2006 and looks at the life and times of Oliver Tambo and the process of renaming OR Tambo International.
