What is life like, living as a locum hospital pharmacist? Today I interviewed a fellow KCL graduate at work (in the very early morning when we had nothing to check!). Hi, I have quite a lengthy question to ask, I hope you don't mind having a read and getting back to me with a response when possible. So, a lot of people underestimate Pharmacists and Pharmacy as a profession. They see it as being quite dull, repetitive and even overrated. Would you agree with that completely or to an extent and would say it depends on the area of Pharmacy i.e. community Pharmacy being more dull and repetitive compared to hospital Pharmacy which has more variety and change? I'm asking this because a lot of people underestimate Pharmacists hugely and I think it's unfair when they do so much behind the scenes which people don't value, see or even know about. I feel like Pharmacists do play an integral part of the NHS and without them the healthcare system just wouldn't run. I look forward to hearing a response:)

Hi, I kind of made a video about this in my third Q&A about people underestimating pharmacy (it's called "Be a Yes Pharmacist"). Anyway, I really think it depends on what your interests are. Some people find community really dull but in busy shifts I've found it really interesting and challenging (selling OTC items etc and getting all sorts of minor ailment queries). Some love mental health pharmacy but I found it really dull...So far, acute hospital has been the most interesting but I think it depends on where you are, whether the store/hospital is busy, what shifts you're doing (wards or dispensary) etc. In terms of what others think about it, I don't like that get to me because I just try and show over time what my role is! :) Hope this helps and thanks for your question :D
