Hey AK...love your videos make me feel like I am sitting in cab with ya. Use my Jake brake just as you do. Taught myself how to operate big rigs on gravel roads 38 years ago. Had a huge pearl steering wheel, 15 speed roadranger, spring clutch !! took both feet to engage it. Funny never dreamed in a bazillion years I'd be owner operator fixing the trucks myself. Three million miles and my 2001 Classic XL C60 13 speed are still trucking coast to coast pulling stepdeck and containers. Pass through ATL and Gnvl. Proud to hear you're successful climbing the ranks to better position. Tears in my eyes tonight after passing fatalities. Pray for the reckless driver young and dumb texting at 70mph on tablet yacking into headset no cushion between tractors. Running through red lights in Fisco like pinball machines. Coming across Bay Bridge at a crawl allotting 40 foot cushion in front of my Classic XL in amazement watching the big rigs whip in front of me for what?? A big 2 second gain, crazy ningcomepoops. Last trip to California, never thought I'd ever be saying that. CARB won't give my 2001 trip permits anymore hauling Generators to Cali and stack of new chassis out of Cali to GA. Stupids, oh well I'll find something else back to east coast. Fun watching your KZbin channel. Stay Cool.

Just skip 5 high pull a little further thru 5 low go to 6 low especially if momentum in your favor or bobtail or light load no need to use all them all . You might be putting more power to the ground now
@johnslesinger71094 жыл бұрын
I think you may be on the right track. When you split in the high side you should not be pre selecting before you move the lever. You should switch the red button as you go thru neutral to the next gear. You should not really need to split at all unless you are heavy or on a hill. Kind of making it gear bound trying to shift the main up a gear and the auxiliary down a gear at the same time if that makes sense. Using the splitter sparingly will def make the trans last longer. Its worth a try. I don't know the condition of your power divider but I doubt its giving you noises in just one gear.
@clay84304 жыл бұрын
I was always told to pre select all air shifts especially in colder weather or an older truck to allow air delay I also double shift each gear if I do go into high meaning I physically shift 5 low to 5 high stick out stick in same hole but I've never run a new trans lol always older trucks with blow by which will put oil in your air system especially Detroit. Everyone does there own thing just be smooth.
@johnslesinger71094 жыл бұрын
So we've established that air moves slower in an older truck, engine blow by causes oil in your air system, and someone has no idea what a power divider is. Actually there is a lockout between the lo and hi side not allowing that shift before the shifter is moved. There is no lockout between the splits in the hi side or you would always have to move the shifter to split the gears. When you pre select your splits before moving the shifter, I will say again its trying to put the auxiliary into a gear you dont want. Lets say you are in 5th hi and hit the button before you move the shifter to 6th. Nothing stops it from trying to go from 5th hi back into 5th lo until you move the shifter. The time between hitting the button first and then moving the shifter, those syncronizers are trying to make the gears mesh. Believe me it causes wear on the syncros and makes your shift harsh. Don't mean to confuse anyone but I have over 25 years as a mechanic and driver.

@@johnslesinger7109 My 18 speed started to do that too, I thought it was the clutch that would engage and switch the gear before my foot was all the way off the throttle, now I do it this way and I don't have any issues with it anymore. Split it while its going through neutral

You should use that Jake brake a lot more man. Truck brakes are expensive. I pretty much leave mine on. I use it a lot because truck brakes are expensive. Vehicle parts in general are lol. EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE... lol. I don’t own my truck I drive. Company truck. I work at a towing recovery company. I drive the big 75 ton rotator. It’s an older 05 Kenworth W900 Caterpillar twin turbo c15, it was a heavy haul truck, we put a 2017 Miller century 75 ton rotator unit on it. It’s a real large heavy truck. Especially when I’m towing, I leave the engine brake on. I recommend you use the Jake brake a lot especially when you are pulling a load to help you slow down. Some truckers when pulling a load they use their brakes to slow to a stop at a light... they use just the brake. Some slow with the Jake then brake to a stop. I let the Jake brake slow it all the way until it stops. Just suggestion man. Not picking on how you drive or telling you how to drive lol. You seem like a good trucker. Like shifting the gears. ID HATE, to drive an automatic truck. I love shifting! I drove an automatic Kenworth T880 dump truck with the crappy paccar motor in it, man that sucked. It shifts itself it’s just really annoying. I much prefer the good ole shiftin gear trucks. Lol. I just suggest you use your engine brake to slow down. Not just a little let it go ya know? I like your trucking. You drive well. I tend to put the pedal down all the way and let the coal roll getting on the highway lol. I’ll leave the windows down to hear the deafening loud pipes and the engine brake lol. When I put my foot down it’s like “VRRRRRRRR” ahahahahaha. It’s a 7 inch straight piped 750hp twin turbo caterpillar c15 acert engine... not stock it make that power. Like 625 it was stock I think. Good engines I love caterpillars. We have Kenworth T600 with a 60 series like you have in your freightliner, we do have a freightliner classic. It’s a stock sleeper truck. It’s been sitting for a while. We have a small freightliner flatbed... I think that’s got an 50 series. I have to look at that sucker. Nice driving stay safe bud!!

Hey man, loving watching your vids from NZ, this maybe helpful, I had a Mack CH with an Eaton Fuller 18spd and it used to do exactly what your describing, it felt like it would "hang up" between 5th high and 6th low, a real pain in the backside when climbing a hill, as it transpired when the gearbox was removed and stripped, the main shaft was slightly bent and that was the cause of the issue. Something to consider. Cheers and keep her shiny side up!
