Perfection is the enemy of done. I know as artists we always strive for perfection. But the reality is that we should just aim for finished. Later on in life when we have more experience, we can look back and decide if that piece deserves a redraw.

oh my gosh your irezumi are so sick! also very heavily related to the part about not feeing like you draw well enough to start - i'm also in a similar place of 'forcing' myself to start, but i'm stuck at trying to figure out a style/line quality that works for me. thank you for sharing your process and thoughts

thank you!!! I’m sure most if us struggle with this feeling lol🥲 I feel like through years of experimenting with different styles (convinced that my own natural style isn’t good enough) as hard as I try to adopt other styles, my art always has a certain look - and I feel like what’s helped me is allowing my drawings to look the way they naturally do, but just use a style reference as like a light aesthetic choice instead of trying to train myself to draw in a whole new way. Thinking this way has helped me accept where I am in my art practice & finally feel empowered to do the actual thing🫰 thank you for your comment🥹🙏

I recently found and subscribed to your channel. Your channel is absolutely amazing!!!! Thank you for also highlighting Murakami. He’s one of my all time favorite writers. I just finished his novel Dance, Dance, Dance.

@@leechuts You’re welcome! I absolutely agree about his writing. Norwegian Wood was his novel that got me hooked on his work. His name keeps appearing week after week. Another content creator just posted a video about his novel A Wild Sheep Chase. I also wanted to ask if you could share your picks on any art/illustration books that helped you develop into such an inspiring artist. As well as any helpful tips you have when it comes to the overcoming work fatigue day after day. You seem extremely productive from day to day! Thanks again for your work and channel. 🤘🏽

hmm nothing in particular just a lifetime of being inspired by different anime, media, artists etc that has definitely evolved over the years! I feel the fatigue so much, i feel like based on my youtube vids etc it might seem like i’m super productive all the time but I definitely am not - I really haven’t finished a “complete” piece of art since maybe December/January, and it’s been a journey over the years learning to be ok with each season of my life and giving myself the compassion I need when I’m not feeling the most creative or I have other stuff going on in my life that I need to focus on. Along with therapy and really being aware of how I speak to myself, my internal dialogue has gone from “why aren’t you making art you need to be productive all the time or you’re not worthy” to “its ok to rest, and rest is necessary to get back to creating in a healthy way” and making that switch has really made a difference in my happiness and peace day to day, which in turn gives me the space to do things like sketchbook or doodle even when I don’t feel like I have the energy to pump out something more “complete” or “finished”, which I’m really grateful for :))) best of luck on your creative journey! try to be kind to yourself and you’ll be just fine🙏

@@leechuts Thank you so much for this reply. I'm extremely grateful for your thoughts and honesty. Especially about these subjects. I know that rereading this from time to time will help motivate me even more throughout the work week as an artist and creative. Thank you for the well wishes and I want to send them back to you 10 fold. I'll continue to be patient and kind to myself as you suggested. Keep up your insightful, inspiring, and motivating work all around. Cheers to you again for your videos and taking the time out of your week/month to share your life with us all. I appreciate them and you immensely. Cheers! 🙂

This video randomly popped up in my feed. Leaving a comment cuz I am left handed too and it was a cool vlog. Cheers! P.S. Also, as a very new content creator, I know how good it feels when someone leaves a comment and it helps boost video. So, good luck 😁

Oh I had the same issues every time I went to Montreal... I would just get nervous because I barely know any french and just didn't want people to get annoyed with me! I think nobody ever did though in the several times I went. Also I actually find it very satisfying planning out what a room/setting of a comic or even single image will look before I do the drawing. I have literally used the sims game once when I sort of wanted an idea for scale...alas, they set the house on fire.
