I love their independence way of living reminds me of when I holiday on my grandparents dairy farm.. only kerosene lamps, wood stove and a safe for food in a cool pantry.. with their own hens/ cows .. loved fruit season when we would help preserve fruit.. outside loo.. bathroom outside pump water from creek - tank water for drinking ..

This is a. blessed life. But where is their church?
@CuriousEarthMan
@CuriousEarthMan 4 жыл бұрын
their church is in their homes. They rotate whose home it will be at each time, and they move benches by horse and wagon, the kids set them up beforehand, and all the families in that 'church district' travel to the home for services. Then they load up the benches and are ready for whoever's home it will be at next. I think they meet two times a month, not sure though. Check out the documentary: "The Amish, a People of Preservation" there are other good documentaries also.

My Amish neighbors have a tractor, the boys even have a remote control car. Most of their travel is done by car, they just can't own it. Seems a bit silly to me.
@betsydavenport7329
@betsydavenport7329 6 жыл бұрын
It isn't silly if you understand what is behind the "rules." It is not that modern things are bad, but that the value is staying close to home, family, and community. Things that support that value are generally more accepted than ones that do not. For example, a horse and buggy can go only so far; a car can go a long way. So owning a car is detrimental to community, while getting a lift with someone else, is not. Once you start looking through the lens of whether a piece of modern equipment supports staying in community, or not, things make more sense. In that way, having modern milking equipment, for example, supports a family making enough income to stay on the farm. Without it, and milking by hand, there would be a limit on income, to the extent the family members might have to take jobs away from home. See?

Hear the dogs that live in puppy mills then never see light of day or get fresh air, living in filth! I have seen it. Same for chickens . Shame on them all that property . The horses work hard pulling those heavy metal trailers . Shame on those people

You are correct - NOT all Amish however. There is indeed a DARK side to some areas, however. People who never grew up on farms or who had parents that did do not realize the very hard work that it entails. And when Agri farms (run by hedge funds often) take over then it is hard to compete at one's local farmer's market. Hence the other monetary means - puppy mills so on.
