Greetings from a 63-old German and his Tiger 800 (not quite as old). The video & comments perfectly reflect what I have been doing & feeling since I started riding again after the (usual) family hiatus. Now, with the time and more secured finances available than when a student, the riding becomes more and more of a passion, much improved - at least in my case - by the increased equanimity and more relaxed attitude, that seems to come with age. Nothing to proof, no records to break. Just pure enjoyment of being out there at your own pace & leisure. Laughing about the mistakes that invariably happen and the tricks the aging body may play on you... like getting in and out of a tent becoming a challenge... Can´t wait for the great Europe trip this summer ... Safe riding to all of you "oldies"!

Then by ferry from Split/Croatia to Ancona/ Italy, through the rolling hills of Tuscany onwards to picturesque Cinque Terre. From there back home via some fairytale villages of Germany, visiting friends on the way. Not so much dirt but stunning scenery anyway, with lots of alpine passes in between. Can´t wait! Great video! I just turned 66 and after spending a good part of my middle age years riding large touring bikes I also got a red & white T7 last year and returned to my off road roots. I exercise; yoga and core strength stuff along with cardio and find it really helps me feel better riding in a more demanding physical environment. You mentioned water weight, I mounted a Rotopax inside my left pannier mount so I can have water in remote camping sites. This keeps it low and I haven’t noticed the extra weight. Ride safe…

Nice little story, good to see the older generation getting out and about. 👍👍 As a 61 year old who has been riding for over 40 years I still enjoy packing up the bike and getting out in the country, I also own a T7 but my god it is heavy, thankfully I also own a DR650 and much prefer it, there are times when lighter weight is better than more power, but each to his own. Thankfully there are many great roads in Australia to get lost on, and lots of tracks to test yourself on, just don’t drop the T7 in the wrong place. Enjoy many future rides as long as you can, life don’t last forever.
@jethrowingnut132 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Im hearing you with the heavy. Not long after I bought it I dropped it in a small washout turning around, it fell handlebars down in the ditch. I had to drag the wheels down into the ditch b4 I could lift it. I love the T7, but sort of wish I kept my Wr for more technical stuff.

At age 68, in October 2021 I picked up a Honda CRF250L (pun intended). I wouldn't go any heavier than that unless I had a full time riding buddy. In 2022 I'm riding the 250 XC on the TAT in USA. According to the Honda manual, I can ride from the east coast to the west coast and back, and won't need to change the oil until I get home. Expect I'll wear out the knobbies sooner than that!

Cool trip! Like you I discovered moto camping in 2021. I am in the UK and the dirt roads you enjoy in Australia are pretty much non existent over here, and those that exist are pretty few and far between, so my trips were all tarmac on my Suzuki VStrom 650. I did an overnight try out down to Lands End, the most Southerly point of mainland UK, and then, after a few changes to my sleeping system I did a seven day, 2000 mile trip up to and around Scotland visiting John O'Groats and then the real most Northerly point at Dunnet Head. I had an absolutely fantastic trip, enjoyed every minute and have more trips planned for 2022. Also like you, I am in my 60's, I was 63 in February. A tip on food. Over here all supermarkets have packs of precooked rice which are sealed and don't need to be kept cold, they can be heated on a camping stove with just a little water added to the pot. A tin of tuna, or some hotdog sausages sliced up and added to the heating rice make for a tasty, filling meal. All the ingredients can be carried in your panniers without the need to be kept cool. I hope you have some excellent trips in 2022.

Better late then never. I just turned 60 and have been riding, traveling, and camping for over 40 years. I can't do today what I could do even 10 years ago. For younger people watching this video, get out and explore now. You may not be able to when you retire because of physical limitations.

Nice video. At 65 I did my first moto camping long weekend late last year but had to cut it short due to the approach of an impending storm. Good fun but a taller tent needed I think and it will be better in warm dry weather.

looks like you had fun, I remember my first moto camping trip. I had some tips for you but you read my mind and answered your own points seconds later. I used to carry a week's supply of beer and some pot noodles, then it dawned on me I should just buy them in the afternoon just before finding camp for the evening

I was riding most of those same roads a couple of weeks ago. I ended up going bush pretty much the whole way down to Nelligen. I’m about the same age as you mate. If you ever feel like a longer 3 or 4 day ride out to Mungo or something, hit me up if you need a riding buddy. My old riding mate pulled the pin last year, so I’m always glad of a bit of company when it gets a bit remote. Cheers.

Great video! A bit jealous about thorse roads and views you have there - there's not much offroading here in the Netherlands. I have a GS1200 for solo/duo camping trips (and also a jeep+trailer for family camping) and I feel the same what you said about taking the bike instead of all the trailer-stuff. You've got a subscriber ;-)

Hi from North Yorkshire. Where you off to for your first trip? I used to live near Edinburgh & could get home from work of a Friday, sling the kit on the bike & be putting my tent up in the Highlands by mid evening. Miss that.

Fun video. Going to do the same this summer in Colorado. I tried for two years now to find a T7 for sale but in the States they are few and far between. Count yourself lucky. I ended up with a Moto Guzzi V85TT. Not as capable off road but I really like it so far. Someday hopefully I can ride on your continent. Cheers mate.

Nice. I like your channel. I got out for a nearly 700km weekend one night camp a few weeks ago with a mate, but all it wants to do in Australia is rain this Summer. Its hard to get out. As you know the T7's not much fun in Clay/Muddy conditions.

Nice video…thanks for sharing. Liked your comment “pick a family friendly spot for my first trip”. I have a slight concern about trouble when I am solo. Not sure if it’s justified or not! Water carrying is an issue. But you don’t want to be stuck out with none in Oz! 🥵 Great to see the Aussie animals at the campsite. 👍🏻😁

Yeah they coexist with the campers. Although a few years ago some idiots decided to turn some of the Wombats into road kill, it was on the news, not sure if they caught them sick bastards.

Well done. Great video. Never too old for Adv Camping Trips. You’re taken the right approach to setting up your camping kit, I’ve been on a few trips & found I’m constantly upgrading gear for camping. The biggest problem with motorcycle camping is storage capacity, hence most of your gear needs to be compact & lite. Working out that perfect kit will vary from person to person, I like to travel with minimal gear. Anyway looks like you had a great trip, beautiful area, spectacular scenery plus nice motorcycle. 👍🇦🇺🏍

It does feel large when you sit on it in the showroom, for the first time. Best to have a test ride first if you're in a position to. I recently lowered the front by 10mm and it does feel to have made a positive difference, just manoeuvring at stand still. Its a fantastic bike, I still love it. Thanks for the comment.👍
