I am watching this after watching a bunch of Japanese micro apartment tours. Somehow your place now looks huge! Of course the great flexibility in your place makes it very appealing.

it got a lot bigger when those modules were added. it’s like a fish adapting to the size of its bowl. honestly i really love it, super cozy and perfect for my needs. two people however i think would be cramped. cheers.

Me, too. Saw the word micro, but then the room just kept expanding and no washing machine or escape ladder. But, such a lovely space this is. Makes furniture rearranging so easy. And, that perfect little balcony! You've found a great place, Matt!

Inside that wall in the bathroom is where the plumbing runs. The walls are made from solid brick or concrete, so often the plumbing in the bathroom runs in a small hollow wall like that so it is more accessible and easier to change thsn if it was running iside the solid wall. Also nice to use as a shelf...

That makes sense. Thanks :)

@@MattSuozzo it's called a "Vorwand" (pre- wall..?). When building a bathroom you can get standardized elements for it that you place where you want a toilet, a sink, a shower,... Those are basically metal frames that you bolt to the wall and floor that have all the neccessary in and outlets and mounting points already in the right position, so all you have to do is connect them all to the main pipes and waterlines and you are almost done. You put some drywall and tiling around (that will also mount to the frames...) and you can just bolt the sink, toilet or whatever directly to the finished wall. The somewhat famous european tankless wall mounted toilets also work like that. The frame for the toilet contains all mounting points, the tank, all pipe connectors and mechanics for the flush buttons...

This is a great apartment. I live in an old (over 100 years old) apartment building in Augsburg. My apartment is quite nice, about twice the size of yours and probably costs only a fraction of your rent. But yours is so much better thought out that I would move immediately (if it wasn't in Munich).

Design is sorely underrated. But the way people live now vs 70 years ago is pretty different too. As things keep getting more expensive, I wouldn't be surprised to see this design spread other places. Thanks for watching :)

Love the apartment and the way everything is organised. It reminded me of the small apartments at the Olympiadorf in Munich. There are thousands of such smaller apartments over there in that kind of style just older. Isn't the the apartment a little small for a cat? Never had a cat, only a dog so I am not sure but seems way too small, no wonder the cat is always glued to the window

What a fantastic studio! To me this is not macro, or it doesn’t look it. How many square metres is it? Love the wardrobe/desk unit, beds, washer and layout. Modules are the s*it!
@MattSuozzo
@MattSuozzo 7 ай бұрын
thanks! 37 or 38 sq meters, I can’t recall off the top of my head. with efficient use of the space, it doesn’t feel small (at least for one person and a cat).

Nice and well organised apt. 👍🏾😎 The thing in the bathroom is called a pre- or front-wall installation where alle the pipes are running. Since the apartment deviding walls are made of stone or concrete, you wanna keep the entire thicknes for noise reduction/insulation. Sometimes they build it up all the way to the ceiling, but in this case you get wider room and some aditional space to put things.😉
@MattSuozzo

I'm extremely glad that I have membership in a non-profit housing cooperative. My apartment has one room only, but a huge kitchen, and a bathroom with window and bathtub (about 40 square meters in total). It's not really modern and I can hear way to much noise from my neighbors, but it's located next to a very quiet backstreet, right under my balcony there's a small park, there's Trambahn, U-Bahn, and S-Bahn only a couple minutes walk away, and the best: It costs only about 250€ rent + 100€ ancillary costs! I do envy your moving walls though. ;)

Very interesting to see a different take on small Munich apartment. Mine is 1 and 1/2 rooms, 37m2 and in comparison lacks the flair and configurability, but I‘m happy I don’t have to fold down my bed every night. Looks very clean though.

Cool. It has some really neat solutions. But ... the noise of the refrigerator in the night ... I've had that for 20 years and I hopefully will never get back to that. Maybe you can live with that when you are young, but the older you get the more it gets annoying.

If you want to discuss accomodation that is "real" micro, check out housing in Paris and London. The size of your appartment is more than generous by comparison.

Mine is on the bigger end of “Micro” I think it bridges the gap quite nicely. I’m not sure I’m organized enough for anything smaller xD

Does your cat mind living in a small appartment? I am thinking about getting a cat but I worry that my 39sqm flat might be too small for it. Also I like to travel, do you take it with you when you travel?

i was worried too, but it helps having the balcony. she loves going out there to lay in the sun on nice days. she’s stays home when i travel, but luckily for me, my friends love cats and stay here with her while i’m away :)

In Munich thousands of apartments are builded ... but more and more people immigrate to Munich. Your apartment is imho quite smart and not cheap. A colleague lived in 26 qm (German counting), so 50qm is quite nice and might fullfil the purpose for one cat (+ one man). Maybe you forgot the small part in the cellar?
@MattSuozzo
@MattSuozzo Жыл бұрын
The apartment is really just for the cat, and I get to live here xD A lot of outer neighborhoods around Munich are building up too (hence the new S-Bahn construction). To live closer to the center, I think smaller is the smart way.

@@MattSuozzo In Munich it is what it is. To get an affordable home/flat is hard. But skyscrapers are not desired (inside Mittlerer Ring) to keep the historic look. Beside the housing problem: great place to life.
