Is it that the minimalism allows him to focus on the things that give him joy or that focusing on minimalism, in itself, is the principle thing that gives him joy? Or it just so happens that his three main passions (design, samurai theatre and gaming) don’t necessarily require a large amount of items at home or completely mesh with his love of minimalism. For example, if he was an avid golfer, he would probably be conflicted given a full golf set has tons of items (14 clubs, a bag, balls, tees, etc). I’m interested in where he keeps his tools and equipment (rented workshop space maybe?) especially if he is designing and making his own clothes and items.

Putting aside he's a minimalist, he has a recognisable system to me. When I lived on my own, I can tell you, I learned so much, because you don't have time. I was studying and working. I had little time to organize and clean my home, not to mention do the groceries, laundry, shopping. Like him, I put my life in boxes. Everything is organized in boxes and baskets. I'm married now, I have decorations in our home for example, but they also have their boxes I just chuck them in when I need. This guy rotates clothes. We do that too. We have our going out clothes and the everyday clothes that we rotate (gym clothes included). We also go around thinking of ways to make our lives more effective/organized and how to get rid of things, but we are not minimalists. (The way he held his phone. My guy is young!)

What a blessing. I'm not the only one. I've been traveling the world since 2006. I have been living in a new country for 3.5-5 years in different regions and cities. At the beginning, I had the usual amount of things and when I moved, I sent things by delivery. But still, every move I rethought the need for each thing, evaluating whether the thing was worth moving on with me. Then it was important for me to fit into 1 large suitcase. Now I am already an experienced minimalist. I travel with a suitcase for carry-on luggage, a musical instrument, a tea set and a supply of pu-erh (this is not always easy to find in a new country), equipment for filming, I create content and my hobby - I make sacred jewelry for prayer. All this: a suitcase for hand luggage, a bag for a musical instrument and a backpack. At the same time, the quality of my life and the feeling of comfort are always available to me.

Read “more than you need.” Obviously “need” is subjective, but most have more than they need, which tends to require more space than is needed, which tends to cost more than they have, which tends to curtail freedom.
