Life in a Small Village in Mexico

Over the summer I stayed in Yalalag, a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico. We had no internet connection unless we bought "fichas" which is a temporary password to access the internet. A huge thanks to my best friend's family for opening their home to me!
NOTE: For those who would like to visit Yalalag, there are no motels nor hotels so it would have to be a one day trip. Make sure you and your taxi driver agree what time you would like to get picked up to go back to the city.

Me too! My dad and his brothers grew up in Ponzuelo, also a tiny village. 99% of people there are indigenous. Me and my brother are going with our dad tomorrow to meet his mom, our grandma for the first time! We've been waiting our whole life Hopefully you'll get to go soon one day too ❤️

I was born in Mexico City but have seen a lot of small, rural towns. My country, despite all the durgs/crime/bullshit, is a beautiful country. You just have to do research and know where to and where not to go. Such a shame and tragedy what has happened to my beautiful, proud country. I have a dream of becoming president and fixing my country but it is just that, a far away dream. The insanely, corrupt government, has become puppets to the viscous, ruthless cartels.

@@SherylDesir yes, as a stranger it might be the wrong place. But I think near to you there, are the “frozen waterfalls“, which are a famous place :D This I visited some month ago. And of course oaxaca has a nice city centre were you can buy some smoke-tasting mezcal ;D is your family planting this agave-plant too? I saw soo many agave-plants there!! :)

matthias essig Oaxaca was just names the World’s Best City by Travel + Leisure. I haven’t been to the frozen waterfalls but that’s now on my list!! My family doesn’t grow agave but yes there are a lot. Oaxaca is also know for their mezcal! It’s really good! I can’t wait to travel and go back!!

I love Oaxaca. It is one place from where I didn't feel like coming back. Some kind of strange connection. They say Mexico and India had connections in the past. There are many stories in ancient Indian literature about King Maya who was living in a neitherworld.

The mototaxis are the Uber. You can take them within your small town/village. Also to nearby towns. You can take the small buses (combis) to other towns. Sometimes you can also take big buses to other towns. I live in a village in Yucatan, Mexico.
