Man, talk about nostalgic & informative. Although it’s been two years since the last SC video, I can surely and excitedly say you guys have picked up right where you left off in terms of teaching history and producing high-quality video. This was great! The footage and editing were both excellent & kept my interest engaged. The narrator was also smooth & clear. It’s so good to see this channel back up & running. I cannot wait to learn more about the world 🗺 & see what other video ideas pop up on here. Excellent work to EVERYONE involved on this staff! #StayCurious

There are some big mistakes in the language part. At 3:40, the number now is about 80% (for spoken mandarin), and for writing the number is 95%. At 3:45 there is no source for this, and this is far from reality... And Min at 4:11(one dialect) is extremely similar to Hokkien at 4:35 (actually the same thing, slightly different by history). And Hokkien is not Taiwanese mandarin... Mandarin from Taiwan is mostly different in writing and is mostly called traditional Chinese.

The myth about Taiwan sharing a common history with China is just that. The Taiwanese people actually share DNA and culture with Austronesian people in Pacific Islands such as New Zealand. Culturally speaking Taiwan shares similarities with both Japan and China because it used to be part of the Manchu Empire that colonized both Taiwan and China before Taiwan becoming a Japanese territory. The present day China inherits most of its culture from the defunct Soviet Union because Soviet funding and direct involvement created the People's Republic with no relationship to Taiwan.
@SL16867 Жыл бұрын
That's a ridiculous take among ridiculous takes. Indigenous Austronesian people are only about 3% of Taiwan's population. Roughly 96% of Taiwanese people are of Chinese descent.
@robertos4876 Жыл бұрын
@@SL16867, Your government lied to you. DNA sequencing has proved that over sixty-five percent of Taiwanese have Austronesian genes. Furthermore, of the two hundred seventy-eight haplotypes identified in non-indigenous Taiwanese those you call Chinese descents, thirty-one haplotypes are exclusive to Taiwan. That means that Taiwan is the origin of the Austronesian migration. file:///C:/Users/ROBERT~1.SUN/AppData/Local/Temp/MicrosoftEdgeDownloads/6dd3c2d3-e927-4aab-a227-9628fa8d5f6b/s41439-022-00228-3.pdf www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2017/10/30/2003681322 academic.oup.com/mbe/article/38/10/4149/5955855?login=false Educate yourself and stop lying in public.

@aldenteh9412Ай бұрын
@@martinfiedler4317 I won't say African, but the same species. Chinese used to have darker skin tone but not as dark as African, it's light yellowish brown, due to melanin exposed to sun. Like how many Chinese people turn brown instead of red after sunbathing, whites in the west turn red due to the lack of melanin compared to Chinese people. There is not actual evidence on Chinese being African or African being Chinese, also, back then, there's no such thing as African. Humans share similar DNA from early homosapiens ancestry.

1. Taiwan uses Traditional Chinese characters, which generally have more strokes compared to the Simplified Chinese characters used in China.The characters that appear at 4:25 are actually Simplified Chinese characters, not the official characters used in Taiwan. 2. Additionally, Taiwan's phonetic system is called Zhuyin, which has its unique symbols (as far as I know, it may be used only by Taiwanese people worldwide). The Zhuyin symbols are quite different from the English letters shown at 4:25. 3. In some of Taiwan's laws, mainland China is still (controversially) considered part of the Republic of China's territory. (Referred to as "West Taiwan?")

@@Claudia_AckermannSorry but I've been to Taiwan and they also have rude people. I'm Malaysian Chinese, I've been to China and Taiwan. If you want to compare both, they are equal in rudeness and politeness. Both retain traditional moral values. Your comment shows how biased you are, there is no such thing as a very rude country, or a very polite country, there's bound to exist terrible people. People say Japanese people are polite and kind, but here in Malaysia we've seen Japanese tourists that criticized local delicacies for being too spicy or strong in spices, even encouraging other Japanese to buy cup noodles when visiting Malaysia to avoid such dishes. We also seen generous and Kind-hearted mainland Chinese, coming to Malaysia not only to go on a vacation, but also participate in Cultural events to learn local cultures. Just like how China's Fujian province have a place built based on Malaysia, promoting local ethnic cultures, such as Malaysian Chinese, Malay, and peranakan. I myself am a volunteer in cultural events of Penang, I've led cultural tours with Mainland Chinese audiences before, they actually helped us promote Malaysian culture in China through Chinese social media.

As a taiwanese, the language part is about 80% wrong. Actually we speak mandarin much more than other languages. The young generation gradually cannot speak Haka and Hokkien(it's not Hokkien but known as Taiwanese. If you insist the source of this language, it should be "South Hokkien" because it's incommunicable between South, North and East). And it's weird only mention Amis because we have 16 tribes of aboriginals. They all have their own language source to Austronesian.
