I’ve just found your channel. My family, with two young kids emigrated to Spain many years ago. Hang in there, it gets better. I remember being so stressed out by all the paperwork and ‘things you have to do’ but you get to the end eventually. Our kids couldn’t speak one word of Spanish when we threw them into a local school, it’s scary! But in about a month’s time, your boys will be gabbling away to their new friends with no problems. Try to relax, and remember the best part of Spanish culture is putting everything off til mañana. Good luck with everything and believe me, you have done a wonderful thing for your kids.

I'm glad you're taking time to take care of yourself, it's SO important as a mom to do this, because we usually take care of everyone else first. Love this vlog series, as I'm in the process of obtaining our dual Spanish citizenship and seeing what you're doing helps me a lot!

How old are your boys? We immigrated from Cape Town South Africa to Edinburgh in Scotland 5 years ago. Wow, watching your videos brought back all my memories of packing/selling up our entire life, visa stresses and so much more. I aged over that time lol. But, today we are so settled and can call Scotland home. My son was 7 when we moved 😀

No offense meant Ale, but being the Mom of 3 is a full time job and then being a flight attendant and then having weight loss surgery and then moving countries. You would need super powers. I hope you take time for yourself but I do not know where you would fit it in. I think you are great and love your vlogs. You will settle in time and never doubt yourself. I have never seen such progress in such a short time.

Your videos are so much more interesting in my opinion since you moved. I love seeing people riding the bus, the Spanish restaurants, and the transition. I normally travel overseas at least once a year but have been home this year. So anything overseas is of interest to me! I really like how you explain the differences in the education system, culture, doctor appointments, just everything.

I always puff up overnight, too, Ale - thank you for the morning eyepatch tip - going to try that! I am really finding your vlogs so helpful as I'm (hopefully!) moving to Quebec next year and trying to learn French (I think I'm at the stage where I need to be speaking it regularly to improve, but that's going to have to wait until I'm there - hard to find French speakers in NZ, lol!). The process is going to be a bit different for me, as I'm getting married to my partner of 6 years and moving over there on a Commonwealth 6mth visitors visa, then applying for residency - so I won't have confirmation I can stay for a long time, but we'rehiring a lawyer. I can't imagine how tough it must be moving with such young children - you're an amazing woman! ❤

I get puffy in the face if I eat inflammatory foods like sugar, processed foods, gluten. If you’re eating those foods (and a lot of people do, no shame) you’ll retain a lot of water. It’s a personal choice. My body feels better when I cut back on those foods. God bless you Ale and your sweet family 🤍🙏

Kids are awesome and learn any language when properly exposed, like sponges 😊 of course you are nervous but they will do just fine for sure. Also luckily Valenciano is very similar to Spanish, not a completely different language like Euskera would be, so it will be ok, I am sure❤ You are doing great and have the right attitude with watching out for your mental health. Any change like moving to another country is challenging and needs time and energy to adjust.

What percent of their day is in Valenciano vs Espanol? We plan to move to Valencia next year and I have been searching the government/school site that shows the language splits for each school. From what I saw, the further outside of Valencia city, the higher the percentage of Valenciano in the public (not concertado) schools. Not worried about the Spanish, but super nervous about the Valenciano part.

Bureaucracy in continental Europe follows the French model of the state, it is a very guaranteed model, subject to procedures and therefore very rigid. It has its advantages and disadvantages. In my experience, compared to the British system, which I only know a little, the main advantage of our bureaucratic system is that from the first time you enter an Administration office, the official already clearly indicates the procedure to follow, necessary documentation, and deadlines for resolution and this is where the main problem lies, that in addition to being quite long deadlines, the Administration itself can break them and to demand compliance you have to start a new procedure to demand compliance with the deadlines of the previous one..., on the contrary, in the British system, I imagine that the American one is also like this, the "madness" is that when you arrive at an Administration office, the official who assists you does not know the procedure to follow and sends you to a higher level and so on until you find someone who knows the procedure and can resolve it if necessary. Spanish lower and middle-ranking officials are generally more qualified than their Anglo-Saxon counterparts, while at the top levels Spanish officials are less motivated and have less decision-making capacity than their Spanish counterparts. A British senior official can make an executive decision after receiving a request or a file, whereas a Spanish senior official will only do so after having received a report from the competent advisory department.
