I grew up in maflats and white people used to take pictures of us and thought we were so poor seeing us with no shoes and shenha 😮. These one roomed homes would accommodate orphans more than any relatives with bigger houses. How I wish our brothers can move to rural areas and get more land,so much potential in them❤. Thank you , great content.

Zimbabwe will rise again…you might need to be prepared to die fighting for it as no one is going to save you…I say this respectfully. I’m definitely no pan Africanist but I do hope and wish for a more functioning continent as it benefits us all to have more countries that are working. I’d like for Zim to thrive and be productive and functioning neighbours to SA and rest of SADC and also for its own citizens…this is is heartbreaking 😢

Hello Maria, much love from abroad! Not sure what your objective is while filming real life on the ground but it looks like you are doing a great job. Are you aware that you have the whole of KZbin as an audience. Well, at least you have me watching your videos from the UK. Would be great if you could add captions to your video to translate the dialogue. I think we are missing a lot of the local language conversation. Thanks though and all the best!

Argh, what a lovely gesture for you putting a smile on the beautiful, poor ghetto kids from Matapi flats ,Mbare🇿🇼❤️! Yonks back when I resided along 3rd Avenue, Mbare, my bestie from 5th Avenue,Mbare married his wife who resided next door to a shebeen we frequented in the shabby hostels 😊! I feel sorry for hordes of families living , crammed like sardines in those dilapidated, poorly ventilated & lit ramshackle flats 😢! It’s depressing to witness the young lads eke out a living out of everything possible…😮😢….sad that’s how our beloved nation has turned out to be..,😅😢!

This was an eye opener for me as I knew Matapi flats existed but had not been there to experience how people live. It was so emotional for me but I thank God for the opportunity to spent the short time with my mister’s and brothers and that what makes me happy. I am hoping to visit again next time and hopefully give back to my home county even if it’s little it will be fulfilling for me🙏🏾

Hello hello, it was good. I enjoyed your vision just a few side notes. You could have given more background on Mbare than it being just a “ghetto”. It is one of the famous low income hustle & bustle communities in ZW. “They are surviving & happy “ bathing in a bathroom with water coming out the ceiling ? “People don’t have much but are still happy” ? Just be careful how you throw those type of words around especially if the persons you interviewed didn’t use it. It would have been interesting to hear about the vendors experience of selling tomatoes and living in Mbare for 30 years. She said she sent her kids to school? Where are those kids? Did they make it out of Mbare. Maybe that’s an idea for a next one, “making it out of Mbare”. 😊 Please add subtitles, thank you !

greetings always sis Maria, great once again to see matapi , kumatapi kumbare, thats a very crowded flats and too risky for health conditions , i never liked or attempt to play around those flats, those ghetto youths can do better if they can focus on whatthey are doing but they have to stay away from the stigma of drugs, the aunt have been there selling since 1980, thats lifetime , a family of 8 living in that accomodation its bad, the problem with the flats , you only own that space , u cant have a garden or backroom, good to bless the children with the gifts of sweets, good work and keep it up sister

Hello once more and thanks for always coming back to watch and support me. Yes, something needs to be done at the Matapi flats so people can have a better life. I am sure our government knows and I read somewhere that they were doing something about it but not sure of the progress. As a Christian myself I believe prayer will help to bring change to our country. The youth needs help to engage in projects and as you rightly said they need to stay away from the stigma of drugs. The problem is it’s a cycle that needs breaking. The moms are amazing and I salute them for what they are doing ❤️

I appreciate the encouraging tone of this video; I really do. Still, we cannot ignore how our nation's leadership is failing each and every single one of these hardworking, resilient citizens. These flats were built in Rhodesia. They were dormitories for single African men who were in Salisbury as laborers. Today, the flats are in a worse state than when they were first built, housing an exponentially larger population than intended. Furthermore, everyone living in these flats is at high risk of infectious diseases such as cholera. What we cannot experience through the video is the whole reality of Matapi Flat: burst pipes carrying raw sewage and infants and children living in these conditions. It is inhumane. I am moved by the resilient spirit of our people fighting for their dignity despite the circumstances; however, leaders have a role to play here. They have the power to improve these state-built flats and take care of their people.

This type content is important but often lacks a clear agenda to me and I don’t mean just your video because I’m grateful for it. For example, we have these young guys who have cooperated to start a fish farm. Is the farm producing to sustain the community or are they hoping to sell externally? How do we help them get the resources to put a proper business plan together, get some expertise to ensure the farm is built to health specifications and help them get some knowledge and capital investment? We don’t want them to survive and be happy. They have a right to thrive and be happy. I believe many that watched thru this video would be willing to invest time, experience and other resource to make it happen. Without a clear agenda, we are talking in vain and I’m talking to myself as well. It’s time to move the needle.

There are so many KZbinrs who go and show this type of content in different parts of the world. I love people and any help they can get is appreciated. I did my part to show others how people live in this community. Any help is welcome because that’s exactly what these people need.If anyone has ideas of how to go about this please reach out. So yes what you said is valuable and we are the people. I am a content creator and that’s what I do but my wish is to get help for these people so if anyone out there knows how to start such initiative’s feel free to reach out so you we can together see how best to help these communities. Any advice is highly appreciated because at the end of the day it’s about taking action to address a problem. This can be achieved by working together as everyone of us has been given a talent/ gift/ wisdom/ knowledge so we can all contribute with what God has given us but often we choose not to as humans. At least I am doing the little I can. By the way I don’t just do this type of content so please also watch my other content showing how beautiful our country and other countries that I visit. I show both sides of a country as no country is perfect.

Considering it's content creation a little generosity goes a long way.

Zimbabwe's Cape Flats😢
@thandisilec835
@thandisilec835 2 ай бұрын
Since you compared, let me correct you…Cape flats aren’t this squalid, there’s proper roads ,not overpopulation (this place is teeming wi to ppl) and no festering garbage everywhere …this place is similar to squatter camps with the chaos and under development with barely any tarred roads. Mind you many squatter camps in SA have clean communal water,electricity and tarred roads

Thank you my brother. I will need to find out more information and the best way you can help. I will be honest with you here that its an area I have not dealt with before and I know gifting on social media can be sensitive to others who may not have the same vision so I would not want to be involved until such a time when I have enough knowledge on how to get help for others in need. This is something I have also always wanted to do in my life and believe I have calling and my purpose for it on this earth. At the moment I do this from my own pocket and offer the little I can but I hope one day God will make a way. Once more thank you and I promise to get back to you as soon as I have more details and information on the best way that you and maybe others here who may want to do can offer help to those in need on my channel. Please if anyone reads this and know the best way to do this please advice here. I would appreciate❤️

@thandisilec835

Please don’t do that, no need to laugh. of course Zimbabwe has slums like all developing countries in the world….there’s levels to even slum conditions. What’s slums in SA vs India vs Brazil vs Zim vs even the mighty US can differ. Think those Zimbabweans in SA be just stupidly lying because common sense says a country with ppl that so desperately skip borders and swim crocodile infested rivers to get to South Africa, must have some of the most disenfranchised ppl on the continent. So please don’t be callous and laugh about this. Breaks my heart to see ppl live like this. I’m South African and will always stand up for our country if anyone tries to undermine us or our generosity and I’m not for open borders because I believe charity begins at home…we still have way too many SAns in SA who live exactly like the ppl of Mbare who we need to save first , so please practise some compassion for these poor ppl. We can banter with Zimbabweans who talk kak about SA whilst seeking refuge in SA but laughing emoji on this video is misplaced,because these ppl have nothing to do with what the other Zimbabweans have said. I hope you get where I’m coming from💕

@thusanangconsulting9665 thanks you so much for watching and commenting . Yes, we have some challenges indeed like any other country we have good and bad things. The positive thing is people continue to work so hard they don’t let these circumstances stop them and I like their resilience. I just hope and pray that our economy will improve one day🙏🏾On the other hand it’s a very beautiful country and I hope people can still visit to support our tourism. Pls take a look at my latest video of Victoria Falls and many more of Zimbabwe I am sure you will agree with me it’s indeed beautiful.

@@Chiedza-mm4dwSoweto isn’t a ghetto, it’s a very liveable township developing into a suburb in many sections. It has mixed income sprawling community from lower mid class to upper middle class Black SAns living in formal housing. Was originally meant to dump Black SAns into ghettos but Black SA switched the script up over decades of working to develop their areas. you’d be amazed and slapped in the face with shock if you went there. Soweto has proper tarred roads,street lights, schools, clinics, largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, clean water in houses, electricity and municipal services like garbage collection,road upkeep etc which majority ppl of this Mbare place would most likely never experience in their whole lives.I don’t say this to be mean but your attitude displayed with your comment is the disdain that Black SAns detest with some of the Zimbabweans who’ve been hosted in SA…often the most ungrateful and triggered lot about Black SAns…it’s not Black SAns’ fault that they have a slightly less shitty government that still delivers somewhat even though below par and its nit their fault that Zimbabwe is in hardships so stop being mad at them. Be grateful that you can at least escape to there whilst these Mbare residents can’t m, I can tell you’re speaking from SA outside Zim, the smugness . I know you know very well that Soweto is no slum like this place, not even close but your weird heart had to go what it does best.. Is it perfect, absolutely not but it’s a dream compared to what I’ve just seen. The squatter camps that grow around Soweto and other townships in SA and yes many inhabited heavily by Zimbabweans and other non SAns, are closer to this Mbare place but even then, I’d say those squatter camps have more services than this place. In case you’re in doubt, this is what many parts of Soweto look like and many of SA Black townships in SA look like…visit that channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqikl4eCbLJ7sMksi=pAaJSvAhhUrsl2Dj I do not dispute SA has its poor aplenty but this is something quite devastating that’s shocking to me too
