We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired!

Michelle, is by far the gardener I follow most. She doesn't come across as a know it all and is very transparent about lessons learned from mistakes made. Her commitment to improving every season and sharing how she does things makes her my favorite. So glad to have found this channel

I started laughing at the beginning of your video at the reading of the "list" because as a fellow homesteader I feel the same pressure. I still work a full-time job, and my day off today looks as full as yours. I have to go into the woods and cut some storm damaged cedar trees for posts, work some more on the new greenhouse, break down the old raised beds and build the new ones, start some peas and lettuce in one of the greenhouses, continue working on clearing a new section of garden to plant, make lunch and dinner, bake the chocolate ganache cake I promised my son, and work on a video for my channel. Sound familiar? One of the reasons I have been cheering your channel on is because when we fellow homesteaders watch your videos, we find them so relatable. Hope you get it all done. Another great video. ❤

Fellow Ohio gardener here. The last handful of years, we've used cattle panels to plant our dried beans on and plant those at the perimeter of our sweet corn patch to create a wind block structure. It was done as a desperate attempt to not have our sweet corn blown down by storms and when it worked we just keep doing it. There's enough air flow but not enough open space for the corn to fall over like dominos during the first big summer storm. Happy Spring!

I'm planting earlier in the hopes it really is an early spring but knowing if it fails 🤷‍♀️ ...I have more seed to plant at the normal time. Yay! God bless y'all.

The Farmers Almanac has had accurate weather predictions for each Zone in USA and has a Best Days (Dates) for planting ! Every year they have an article which looks back on the previous year to show how accurate they were. For example, they predicted the heat wave and drought conditions down the middle of US for Summer of 2023. This year 2024 they are predicting Stormy Weather for most states except the Pacific NW : WA and ID which will be the only states with Normal Seasonal weather. So , if you study the weather soggy conditions : The Question to ask is: Will these crops do well with more rainfall and stormy conditions?

I just came in from outside, called my husband at work and said, "you have to call in sick!" There's just too much to do. " our third daughter was married in February and we did everything for tge wedding which required him taking rime off early in the year instead of our normal week in April. Its always a juggling act between homeschool, garden, animals, family..now grandchildren and round two of elderly parents to help with. It's crazy, but God is Good and ..and I wouldn't change it.

Spring can be overwhelming, for sure. Here's something that might make one task easier for you, from an old landscaper, Michelle. Use a plastic rake rather the metal rake or a pitchfork to lightly pull the straw off. You can kind of pop the rake down in the bed and flip the tines along with some straw underneath them. It will be much easier on your back, take less time, and be easier on your strawberries, too! Have a nice drink of sun tea, and admire all your hard work!!

Yes. Spring can be stressful 😩 For me in the UK, it’s preparing or flipping beds we’ve been harvesting from over winter. Especially if life has thrown mini - let alone full on - curve balls. What I don’t have to do is film, then edit our trials: THAT would put me off even starting the Spring Garden process!!! Well done guys 🫡 Thank you and happy gardening. 🧑‍🌾

My current list includes getting all of my warm weather transplants out of the greenhouse and into the gardens and corn and okra planted today. It’s fun seeing how gardeners in different growing zones are getting things going.

Your title to your video echoes most gardeners. I am a retired Midwest suburban gardener. I have never worked so hard. My front yard has full sun & bermed beds & 2 raised paver beds. I mix flowers & veggies. The back yard had 2 beds & I had a friend help me make 4 more beds. I already made a 31' raspberry bed edged in cinder blocks. Next to it are elderberries edged in cinder blocks. Prepping beds is critical. My clay front-after 5 years is finally broke done using wood chips & compost I make with mostly mowed leaves. Chicken & bunny manure are used.

Im in zone 5b northern indiana. I do absolutely nothing to my strawberries. Their leaves self mulch. I apply liquid fertilizer once in early spring. Sometimes i dont if i fertilized before i transplanted them. I get way more than we can eat and am in the process of pulling alot. They ore on windy but part shaded side of house. I did create the soil by composting raw wood chips like 7 years ago. It grows about anything.

I'm curious, why would you till between the rows? Tilling turns up dormant weed seeds and breaks up the soil structure, it's better to leave the landscape fabric down and mulch over it. You could even put cardboard and/or newspapers down then mulch, they break down and help enrich the soil. I also use chip drop, you can get free tree mulch to put in the paths also. It would be alot less weeding for you to do. I have cardboard and newspaper down in my raised beds (FL sand) then did the Hugelculture method I can go through my garden and pull any stray weeds in 10-15 minutes once every couple of weeks, it really saves alot of time. I hate weeds and the ones here are on steroids! Former Ohioan😊
@morethanfarmers
@morethanfarmers Ай бұрын
The strawberry plants were rooting on top of the weed fabric. I like to have narrow rows for good airflow. We aren't planning to till because the fabric kept the weeds down well.

Love your videos. This one seemed awfully short for such a long work list lol.

Too scripted anymore! It’s become a “teaching” channel, not a family story! 😢it works for some, just not me! Much success!

I ordered LMNT before, I like the flavors but I wasn't happy when just as u said I was told it had no artificial ingredients....when in reality it says right in the package " natural flavor" ; which means it is some sort of artificial ingredient . So the flavor does not come from 100% real ingredients, it's a " flavor" 🫤
