Back then, I had some pretty good interactions with players. I pretty much lived as a hobo with a hobo styled camp down the hill from someones keep, and every now n again they would come down, give me some good food and sometimes clothes and to see how much my hobo camp progressed. I wouldn't make my plot large and kept it very simple as to prevent the idea that I would want to grow an claim tons of land. I pretty much had a tent, chicken coop, fire pit, a little bit of farm land, crafting stations and a fence surrounding my area. It was the little things that kept me playing back then. I had fun, but it was also a bunch of tedious work, not to mention how far I had to travel for water as the nearest brook was a few hundred meters away. Good times though, good times.

Definitely not a game for everyone, but if you want either low stakes slow game (solo in green zone) or a clan effort experience, not for a couple of weeks but for few months, it's great. On the lack of people, I've met multiple players over my 2 days since I started again, even tho I went for a solitary spot on a mountain, and the eu chat is always full of people recruiting for their guilds in various languages, the help chat is also quite lively, got some help with the laggy map there.

I personally didn't experience seeing a single person, nor the chat move once in the hours I spent in the game. Didn't give me a good vibe but that might have changed since the Steam relaunch!

@@TheTankClub You probably had local chat tab selected, most other chats are alive, EU has about 500 people in chat currently (I assume that's the number of online players who haven't closed the chat tab)

I remember working 8 hours a day for 2 weeks just to build a road. The connections I made from being in the suck with an inviting guild, but I cant in good conscience do this again with the bad rep and dying plaher base, nor a subscription fee. I might consider it if I'm truly bored, but that is far away.

I loved playing LiF:YO but the mmo always seemed to have big issues. The concept is great, execution? Not so much. Moved to sub model? Seems insane to me, like Mortal online 2 sub model - your paying to support the devs but they arent supporting you anymore. In my time of playing this on various private servers I have had alot of fun, made great memories, and met a handful of people I still game with today. That being said, this game sadly never reached its potential, and only really became fun due to the effort put in by private communities to make events and fun things to do. I thought it was funny to see a review of this game in 2024 seeing as I have such fond memories of it. Great review, really enjoyed the style

I remember playing this game for almost 140 hours the first week I got it. I saw this about it is making a comeback and was intrigued. But $11 a month subscription format... no thanks.

I remember throwing down in this game waaay back in the day, fun was had being enslaved by the local lord so I could dig ditches, and drag a cart around. Good times..

I really enjoy the concept of a more 'hardcore' medieval MMO but this looks rather barebones and more frustrating than actually enjoyable. It's also pretty bad that they initially sold the game and now have a pay-to-play subscription plastered onto it, original owners should've at least gotten something for their initial support.

You do, if you spent money on the game each dollar spent goes into play time. So for me I spent money and got a version of the game and was rewarded with 50 days of play time that I dont have to pay for. And to be honest every one complaining about a subscription is used to the new free to play model where microtransactions are the name of the game. I would rather pay a monthly and have updates and server maints then have the game shut down because they ran out of money.

Grinded to max levels in this game few years ago and loved the game. But this subscription thing wont bring me back and many others. 11$ a month is crazy...

this game was fun back in 2017/18. hated that there was no voip and only text. loved building roads and how it would show up on the map as you layed down the bricks. that was really cool. loved how big the maps were and you could travel server 2 server if i remember correctly. loved the terraforming,. man this game had so much potential.. i have a few videos on my channel for that time. good shit server 33 .. also had a dope crew of like 12 random dudes. good times. hope they doiing well

I can see you care about the quality of your script. It is full of style. At times, it distracted me from the substance. If I had a shot for each alliteration, I'd be dead! Really enjoyed the vid.

lol, games like this arnt for ever one. Having been a long time Wurm Online player its funny because your review despite it being negative was a net win for me haha, all your gripes are bonuses to some one like me. I guess it comes down to whatever floats your boat.

I still don't know how the last time I played this game was in 2019 and still had 1600+ hours, and I have played other games tons of hours and most of them are still around 1000hrs lol

Lif:YO is a far better experience. Even today i'm playing that. Would love a studio to pick that up again but for some reason, studios wouldn't accept the death of the MMO genre

I just came upon the revival of the game, but it seems they have large ideas with holes in them. I played the game for a few years on release, and truely loved it. I still miss it to date, and hoped at picking it up again. But sadly the combat system and pvp is one of the worst things this game has attempted and abandoned with the old devs, and the new ones dont want to seem to change it. I really hope that in a few months time, they listen more to the old player base, because the game has all the markers of a successful medieval mmo at a slow pace.. it just needs an overhaul.

If you like to waste your time in a game that has reduced progress to the level of "I have nothing to do with my life" it can be a nice PVE game. If you like to abuse mechanics that can stop any PVP content only when you want or if u want (just if u have a minimum 50 friends online nonstop) and the built walls are the best skill you can have... but most importantly if you like to play only in zerg mode where only the number matters , that's your game. Pleasant boredom!

well said. i sortof enjoy it cuz i got the hang of it. Once you do, it can become a decent cup of tea to waste your time in, but one thing it does rly good is...make it feel like a 2nd job. Make of that what you will. But overall i agree with your points and the general feel of it, it's a very meh game. Even if i somehow fell in it's trap.

Your review is of the starter island, something most players skip as you don't need to do it. It's just there to teach you the basics of crafting and working. You finally died to a knool NPC, which can be defeated by walking backwards. You never even played the game nor seen any aspects of what makes the game. As for the empty bases, it's a worldwide mmo game, meaning the bases were all most likely asleep. Judging by where you were on the map, that was most likely a spanish base. Another review by a potato who didn't actually play the game.

Thank you for the comment, I am happy that the game has some players who enjoy it. I wasn't willing to *suffer* playing it anymore than I already did unfortunately. Regardless of everything else, I've loaded up the game at a few different times of the day and I have yet to see another player, that in itself is a reason to never play this "MMO" again.

Mby this is a big flag?! If no one want to stay to much in this boring game... maybe there is a reason or mby more? Not to say how mny bad mechanics are in the game what make all PVP pointless and eazy to abuse and force all fights in zerg fest and stop all pvp on "look at my walls and cry" + with this crazy and necessary grind... is just a joke. Look bad from start and is an absolute disaster when you get to really know this game.
