As a Christian mom of an adult child with bipolar, I feel the judgment coming out of this video. They don't even know what to say to this person until she starts talking about the power of God delivering her. There's very little compassion to her struggle but then everybody wants to cheer when she says God brought her through. People need support while they're in it, not just after they're out. The body of Christ has a really hard time dealing with mental illness and homosexuality. They just don't know what to do with it and that's why so many people in the church struggle in silence and condemnation. Most Christians don't believe MH issues are real and they certainly don't want to admit that their child has those challenges.

I agree. I felt that as well and wanted to try to watch the full video before getting the comments. They diverted from answers to the hosts' roundtable question about do they believe everyone struggles with some sort of mental illness at some point. The answer should have been a resounding yes. Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, and ADHD are common mental illnesses! Many people don't want to associate themselves or their family with a "mental illness" so they pick and choose what they accept as being a mental illness which, to me, can be a trait of borderline narcissistic. Love to EVERYONE!!!❤

Mothers Liberty, the brain is an organ in your body just like the heart, lungs, kidneys, etc. things can and DO go wrong in our body. The brain included. We live in a fallen world filled with disease, etc. how many countless millions of people have died in this world of famines, disease, plagues throughout history. In Heaven, there will be no disease or blindness, deafness, etc. on earth we will have tribulations. Jesus will be there with us.

I used to not believe in mental illness but have learned otherwise as I have matured in my faith and have pursued understanding outside of my own personal perspective/mental health. I have seen a lot of mental illness working in my profession for nearly 20 years as a police officer and personally in my family. It has grown me so much to love others and to be empathetic toward others. I believe God can heal whomever He chooses but decides not to at times just as He didn't remove the thorn from Paul's flesh upon him asking three times. It's also okay to not be okay but to continue along in faith and Jesus was another example of this when He was on the way to the cross. He prayed to the Father to take this cup from me, not my will but Your will. Jesus wasn't okay, He prayed to His Father, the cup was not taken from Him and He continued on In faith. Our hope is not of this world, it's in eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our journey through this world is made possible by the love and grace provided by Him and the sending of the Helper/Holy Spirit that dwells in all of us that trust in Him. Our brokenness (physically or mentally) no longer defines us when we are born again but the battles will always be real this side of Eternity once we identify ourselves as an enemy of Satan. Thankfully God also gifted people to become doctors and pharmacists, counselors, etc...all of these can be used for His glory.

The fact that it took you many years to arrive at this conclusion, combine that with the fact that you're an active-duty patrolling officer is extremely concerning. Had it been the 70s/80s, how many years of "maturation in faith" would it have taken to learn to identify an epileptic seizure from "violent demon possession"?

@@Jaydenzephyr I was bipolar for 12 years. I took medication for 12 years and was hospitalized 12 times. In the past year I have stopped smoking nicotine/marijuana, stopped drinking alcohol, and stopped watching pornography. I believe these are open doors for evil spirits to come into us and cause bipolar symptoms. I also had some fellow believers cast multiple demons out of me. I always felt like it was not God’s will for me to be taking the medication. In Galatians 5:19-21 Paul mentions the Greek word pharmakeia as being a work of the flesh. James Strong defines the word pharmakeia as medication. The word pharmakeia is translated as either witchcraft or sorcery. If the Holy Spirit convicts you of this truth I hope this helps you.

Thank you for this wonderful interview. I have never before come across another person with similar circumstances: a "highly functioning" bipolar diagnosis (for me since 2002), working as a therapist and a Christian. Like she said at the end, sometimes the pain does not go away, and it is about holding on the truth of who God is, and His promises for me, despite living with an illness that can be distressing at times. I'm currently going through some difficult days with my mental health, and this interview was very inspiring and exactly what I needed to hear. God bless you ladies

Also the question of 'how do christians view mental illness' is on point and needs to be dealt with honestly and with hope. My son was recently diagnosed, has struggled in the church, but by God's grace holds a degree in engineering, works in his field. It's phenomenal to me Lindsay is a therapist. Its literally not ok if it's hard and its literally not ok if its painful. How are they and Christian leaders trying to pass off misery as good? It's becuz they know they dont have the answers for the reason nor solution to mental illness which is the cause for behaviors in persons inflicted with it. Those behaviors can be contrary to obeying the biblical God thus resulting in justified punishment/condemning/judgment according to bible. Yet it's the followers of jesus whom portray these sinful behaviors becuz they cant control them due to there illness. So the elephant in the room is this question...WHY WOULD GOD ALLOW ILLNESSES THAT CAUSES SINFUL BEHAVIORS OF HIS FOLLOWERS AND NOT CURE IT COMPLETELY? especially if it hurts themselves, others and offends God? Yes I kno 1st thing most Christians are going to try to correct me on is "Well we Christians never claimed we had all the answers and God never promised a life without out pain becuz of the fallen nature of humans" my response is well this doesn't help your claim of christianity as being a creditable authoritative beneficial source for everyone's wellbeing

I like your ability to reason these things. It’s sincere and open minded. With the open mind that you have, you’d understand then that humans have limited knowledge. We don’t have the answers you are searching for to be fair, only God does. So the questions that you are asking, are you asking them to Christians or asking God directly? Christianity absolutely has no benefit for those that aren’t willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. Why should we have to sacrifice ourselves to do good? Why can’t we be good without sacrifice? Better yet why are we ever born if it was just to die? Our very existence is not possible without suffering and it’s an insult to all the people who came and went before us to casually assume the hardships they’ve endured for us were worth nothing more than a question or reasoning in our minds.

I got that way too for a long time after my first episode - hung out to dry- abandoned- and that, I feel is honest. But I healed and sought God again because I believed He and Christ are real and do love me. A lot of searching brought me to a place of trust again with God, I believe it wasn’t his desire to put me through so much pain, but He allowed it, and can redeem it- work it for good in my life. I hope to help people one day get through it , and see it as a brain issue that needs love and care like when people get sick with cancer. If there was more care and understanding- it could be faced better by society, and by us who have it. Hope and pray you find some healing ❤️‍🩹 💕

God will never fail you nor abandon you. Please, take a look in His word Isaiah 49:15. Sometimes things happen in our lives, I don’t know why but God has a plan for each of us and that plan doesn’t include being ill and abandoned by Him. Take a look at Job story, he was rich then he lost everything and got ill but God restored Him in every ways. We should also keep in mind that the Bible says “by Jesus wounds, we are healed”. I am also struggling with bipolar but holding on to Jesus for healing and restauration because I was not born with that and I still believe He can heal me.

Majority of mental illness is developmental issues never addressed in childhood. Mental illness is an easy way to defer society and families ignorance and neglect to understanding how to develop kids into adults. Its easier to just say, oh they are mentally ill. It's hard for influences to claim responsibility in their developmental neglect, abuse and willful ignorance. Literally less than a hundred years ago medical professionals did frontal lobotomies believing that would fix mental illness. This video is about as surface level as it gets.

I had been stable and de cided to stop medications just to see if i really have the diagnoses they say i do. 1 month later major spontaneous episode ,( thank God this happened at a new job so i could return to my former one) complete with hallucinations and had to be hospitalized. The next morning after being medicated i was back in my right mind and finally accepted my illness. After seeing all that altered mind state mess i never missed a dose again . So i wouldnt spread that assumption of mental illness to the masses to much. Bipolar people still have slight effects from the illness but it can be greatly helped if you work at it.

This is my reply to one of the commenters on this page kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWWvp2CIe6p5ras, Max W. May it help you also, if you could use it: I had sad moments in my early youth also , I didn't even knew who my mother was, when I first met her at the age of 4 years old. I just grabbed my panier, and waited for the next leg of the plane journey to continue. Sadly had to accept that this stranger was my mother everyone I knew in life was gone, except my little sister. I became very sad...my only party was pity partying. I decided that happiness was a better party than a pity party...even my best music eventually became sad. So I immediately chose to not be sad anymore, I became happy and optimistic. I became convinced that no one was made to suffer, and became a considerate and caring person to others well being. When the bible made me see that God was like that too (He cares how all persons are doing, at any moment in their lifes). Since we seem to have an important thing in common; I ask Him to be my best friend. Scripture shows He has many best friends. People who meet him, think He is the finest person in exsistance and learn to deeply appreciate Him. I would ask max to find out if He cares about him too. God loves everyone as He loves Himself and anything that good. I pray (in Jesus name, according to God's will, that He shows max, that He is the best trust there is. That can help you learn to trust others who deserve trust also.
