Great video! I had the same problem. Bought a new stainless impeller housing. No more wear ring. 2015 vxr, always in salt. Also replaced the starter, impeller, all 4 motor mounts.

Good info for a quick fix or making the weekend but Id still order the part and just go for fixing it right if you have the time. Hell by the time you got through winter the housing could swell in new spots and it would be making noise in spring anyway

Brilliant information....thank you....I bought a 2013 VX and was worried about this common fault, and so priced a new housing in Australia and they quoted me $350+.....if you grind the high spots once will the problem accelerate ...i.e. thinner stainless more susceptible to bulging again? At the moment it is not seized however it is likely the impeller has worn the high spots from constant use and there may be no stainless left where the high spots would have been....I will inspect the jet unit overt he next week or so. Subbed as I am sure to learn a great deal from you.

I'm glad this was helpful, the tips I've shared are definitely not a cure all for this issue and yes the problem might continue if the ski isn't getting used as often. Worn shaft bearings pushed impeller forward causing contact and once it sits it rusts and fussed , don't just replace wearing, replace shaft bearings

hey man, so i got the same noise when starting but i had it running yesterday and the battery died, i went out bought a new battery put it in now it’s making that noise when i try to start it and the screen and radio shuts off after trying to start. Any ideas?

I have the same issue! I've changed my starter relay and spark plugs. And it still doing it.

You'll usually see this on skis that sit on floating docks. I recommend hosing down the jet unit as well as the entire ski with fresh water after each ride.

question,,,,,,i got a 2008 waverunner ,had to have it on its side for hull repair for like 60 days,,when i let it back down there is no oil in the tank,,,,,,,,,,,is it ok to just ad oil and start it??????????? where did the oil go????help please

Is it in the hull? I don't see it would have ended up in the engine but you could always add oil, make sure you prime it and add oil to the gas for safety but then you gotta find the leak or you might blow your engine in time.

Pull the plugs and crank tge engine to make sure it's not in the engine

Can you tell me what the torque specs are when reattaching the pump to the back of the ski for the various bolts? Snug? or to specific ft lbs...

Your going to have to pull out a manual for that kind of information. That's information that I do not retain. After over 13 years of working on skis I only pull the book out for engine torque specs.

@@nemonespider whats the voltage under load?, pull the plugs and see if it cranks. Check jet unit for anything that could be stuck inside. If that's good whats the voltage at the starter? Probably best to bench test the starter. Does the motor spin over by hand?

I wasn’t getting any beeps or indication on the dash but after a good charge I got the beeps now this.. how do I test those things you mentioned?

I'm glad you asked! I've only ever worked on salt water vehicles and what happens is salt water will find its way into any openings, the wear ring and housing are 2 parts and corrosion will build up between the two causing it to swell. That or the two metals have a reaction together and it starts to swell. I hope this was helpful and thank you for the question. ... I see you have a seadoo, you will never have this issue because you would have a plastic wear ring

Worn bearings in the pump cause impeller to push forward onto wear ring! Not wearing swelling! , Don't just replace wearing, replace shaft bearings
