The birds are flying nice what you need to continue to fly your pigeons through the hawk season your pigeons would learn to get away from the hawk and they will be better flyers and they will be very strong don't lock them up keep them out taken from me I got Falcons Cooper's all over the place and I fly them everyday and I'm also tossing them

I use a dropped tip feather to pull the back toe out when banding the young. Also when you get splayed leg (which occurs alot with single hatches) I put a stone the same size as the youngster in the nest next to them. It keeps their legs tight under them while growing rapidly. Great video and awesome job getting that pretty red checker back together after the hawk attack..👌

@@EBloft I had a bird get hit by a coopers hawk yesterday - I watched it swoop in and they free fell 40 feet before I ran full speed at it and the hawk released it. Got the yb back with a net today, and I had to come back to reference the first aid part of your video. Unfortunately (or really more fortunately) there aren't many videos on first aid for our birds. Just wanted to say thanks again and hope you keep making videos!

@@s.plissken.924 awesome, that liquid band-aid works excellent id suggest you stock up on that just incase of any more hawk attacks until the ybs get familiar with the hawks an learn to get away, if you need anymore advice feel free to reach out i will be uploading more videos soon regarding my yb team an some upgrades on the lofts.

Cracking video fair play, keep up the good work.After adviced by a fellow fancier, If you get any yb's with splayed legs again I found a medium sized potato in the nest helps and place extra nesting material in the nestbowl, wood shavings, soft twigs. Saved one myself 2 years ago, as long you catch it early, but I made a mistake beforehand disposing the pot egg that was there too early! Both parents over keen sitting the single yb! All the best to you with your pigeons.

I had a problem with splayed legs over the years but it all ended when I stopped using crockery nesting bowls and transferred to the recycled card ones. If the nest made by the parents is poor, the legs have nothing to grip on and leads to splayed legs. The cold crockery bowls cut off the blood supply because of the lack of warmth being retained by the poor nesting materials and cold crock pots. Just thought I would comment in case it helps anyone else.

Hi, nice video. I just had my first hawk attack. Got my favorite breeder cock. I caught the hawk with him on the ground. He was opened up from the middle of the back of the neck around to the front down to the crop. It was such a large wound. I came close to just putting him down. Called a doctor friend and we sewed him up. I was pretty skeptical but he has survived. Was loft flying two weeks later. I’m amazed. I really like your loft setup.

After 60 years I have gotten into Homing Pigeons again . I have four young birds from 3 to 5 months old . The 3 month old bird is routing by it's self but the others have flow once and don't seem to eat to fly again . They just hang around the loft and go back inside . I think I will but them all in a box and take them down to my pasture and turn them loose . Any suggestions ? Patience is killing me .
@EBloft2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely basket them up an take them for a short toss even if its only a couple hundred feet, feed only after flying as always, but don’t cater to them to much this way the birds know they have to fly first in order to eat after.

I really enjoy your videos. I haven’t had pigeons for 30 years. My dad brother and I used to race pigeons in Baltimore city used to be a lot of pigeon fliers in that area. It was a lot of competition. I’m looking at the pigeon that was hit by a hawk or a wire, I’ll give you a little tip on what to always keep around for your pigeons. If they get one get like that or get sick we used to call it light when they just sit around and they’re sick they normally would die. The key ingredient is garlic. I’d like to buy the garlic that’s in the little boxes in the grocery store, now this is important don’t buy the garlic that is really white. It will tell you where it comes from and it’s normally China you don’t want that garlic it’s full of toxins, cut a clove of garlic in half about half the size of your thumbnail, isolate the pigeon to where he has food and water, give him that garlic put it down his throat in the morning and again in the evening now it will make him sick. He won’t feel too good from it. You do that for three days the fourth day don’t give him the garlic and two more days, give him the garlic, but make sure he always has access to feed and water dip his head in the water every day, he probably won’t drink but on the third or fourth day he will garlic purifies the blood bird used to get canker. It’s a buildup in the mouth all yellowish white stuff and it would kill him. This garlic knocks it out of him. I wish you luck and hope I helped you out.
