Towards the end of 1998, troubled teenager Zoe Tattersall was lonely, grieving the loss of her baby girl, and trapped inside a dull relationship with her boyfriend, Ashley. She made some new friends in Ben and Ruth who seemed sympathetic and understood her situation.
In Volume One, Ashley and his roommates, Nick and Leanne, don't like Zoe's new friends too much and over the next few weeks, with their mocking and bullying, they push her further and further away.
