Yes, I was lucky that a boat was passing as I was filming. I asked if I could come on to film and they let me.

Lock water looks filthy. To think we used to swim in there, but it was better maintained then. Our next door neighbours son Mick Shields got the lock keepers job there at Hanwell . The cottage came with it. Bottom ofGreen Lane. They emptied the lock for cleaning once, l have never seen so many (small fish, Sticklebacks and Tiddlers) in one place.. when times were hard we were sent to the Potato field to get spuds for our tables we always went at night, it used to frighten the life out of us. Plus walking home with a jersey bulging with stolen spuds. There was a single track railway line running through and we used to give the crew a lot of stick so the Fireman used to throw coal lumps at us ( very handy for our campfires) We had a lot of fun.

The whole canal was empty during the first lockdown, it was very strange to see it so empty. The railway line is still there.

I didn't touch the lock gates at all lol The guys on the narrowboat did all that :-)
