Welcome to another vlog! We’re celebrating our boativersary with a jaunt to London and a helpful recce of the quite intense London moorings. How do you ever find a spot?! Back on the boat we finally make a decision about our winter plans (as you guys know by now, the vlogs are still in the past) and which direction we’ll head in next. Literally. Congratulations! One year-the first of many I am guessing...we set off living aboard over 25 years ago intending maybe five years...and now I cannot ever envisage not being here. @@krisatomic It took 10 days starting from Hemel Hempstead and up the GU to the Coventry and then onto the Ashby. My friend lives in Market Bosworth. The Ashby a very nice canal with no locks but not many facilities so you have to plan ahead. The walk was in May as I said earlier and I walked about 10 miles a day. The stretch between Berko and MK is easily the nicest scenery but you will know this. I am so glad you have found that living on a boat and experiencing all that lovely country side has has such a mental health benefit for you both. One day I will get a boat, after all all I need is the internet and a desk to do my job as a Bookkeeper! Best wishes to you both, Alistair

We are just leaving Berko/Tring for a marina in the thames for winter. Tough winter decisions..

One of my old lecturers lived on a narrow boat in London and he used to say where else could he live so close to the city for the price. But he taught us in the midlands! I prefer to cycle along side canals. Rather bumpy though.

The quality of the towpath does vary dramatically! Watch out for holes, I talked to someone who came off their bike straight into the canal like that 😩

Nice. Daily writing is an excellent thing to do. It just sorts you out. Allows you to get a handle on things. For me, that's usually an evolutionary process over a number of scribbles leading to an unfolding. Sometimes it meanders over pages, and sometimes it just goes boom, and you find something intensely satisfying looking up at you over a paragraph or two that you can't stop looking at. A mike drop that makes your coffee taste real good. No one will ever see it, but it's always with you. Helping you flow through this life with a better understanding and appreciation, leading to a life worth writing about (or filming :-)

We will complete my first year in September so a lot of what you say resonates with me. It has been a massive learning curve. We did a similar thing with travelling towards London and then a big U turn back the way we had come, for the winter. We were speeding our way along the Kennet and Avon to get to the Thames before it got red boarded. We slowed down. I hardly thought about the logistics of living on a boat before we did it. It took me 8 months to call our boat home! We also like moving along the network. I can't imagine living in a marina although I expect we will do one day. Who knows? Plans change.

​@@krisatomicThe Thames was fun. Very wide after canal life. We got a tad agoraphobic at first but then started to enjoy the luxury of a 360° turn - anywhere we fancied! We turned left at Reading, where we entered the Thames, and went North (away from London). We will go south one day. We got as far as The Ferryman pub, Bablock Hythe, Witney. All of that part of the Thames is beautiful. The plan was to go to Lechlade but that was too far for us on our one week pass. We came back to Oxford and are on the Oxford canal now. The Oxford canal is different again with lots of Armco and single boat locks. I quite like the double locks as you can get to know other boaters as you travel along together. Continuous cruising the K&A was wild last winter though. 8 months of wellie wearing. Death to the wellies! Mooring on the K&A is all mooring pins and mallets😮. I'm hoping winter on the Oxford will be a bit easier!

Thank you for the info, we definitely look forward to the Thames, but maybe in a bit when we need more excitement in our lives 😂 would love to do the tidal part from Limehouse too. We did winter on the Oxford so you’ll see that in upcoming vlogs (spoiler alert). We did find it hard work tbh because it got flooded so we got stuck before closed locks for several weeks, but we’re also very spoiled from our relatively straight-forward first winter, so who knows! The weather will weather 😅

@@krisatomic Interesting...... I'm wondering where you are planning on spending this winter? I hope we don't get flooded this winter! We'd like to do the tidal part of the Thames too. I watched Boat-time do it on the Canal tv show. It looked a bit hairy going under the bridges. I'm looking forward to following your progress from last year. All the best.

Your videos are by far the sexiest of all the canal boat videos. LOL. I mean that as the highest compliment! In other words your videos make it hard for this Kansas girl to not sell everything and move to the UK. Honestly, they are beautiful, I truly enjoy them. ❤

Beautifully created video and thanks for sharing your insights. We live in Australia and have done two canal holidays and I agree that it is refreshing and hard work and so peaceful and fulfilling. We are in our seventies now and it’s not likely that we will get back to the UK but I can live vicariously through your videos. Warmest regards…..
