I worked on a longliner as a young fella, learned the definition of hard work and long hours... never forget it, but think it's a young persons game. It did kind of wreck the idea "of going for a fish" with mates... cause a fish ain't a fish after what you catch on a longliner. Still think to this day that the by catch rules are madness... you're laying 20-40nm of line in the ocean with with about 1000 baited hooks on it and no say in what gets hooked. If you reach your limit the rest gets thrown in the ocean even if it's already dead. Yes I understand they do it to protect other fishing industries, but I suspect there would be tonnes of perfectly good (already dead) fish thrown back due to by catch limits.

4:07 “We wanna be as sustainable as possible”. 5:35 “It’s a customised fish killing machine”. 6:44 “We can hold 60 ton of fish” … can’t see any contradictions there!

Righto mate. Only the fact they are targeting specific species of fish. Fish that are in abundance and are fast growing. They aren’t raping the seas like net drag fishing.
@setfia7589 Жыл бұрын
All catches limited by sustainable quotas. He wants his unfair share but the total catch is capped. So no no contradiction.

They have quota , but want to catch it as efficiently as possible. Isn't efficiency important in any business?

So sick how they look after their catch. I see too many charter operators and commercial guys just chuck their fish into an esky with no ice and not bled for them to stink and die in the heat not looking after their catch at all. I don't see the point in keeping fish if you don't look after them.

Targeting a species listed as critically endangered on the IUCN red list, but sure, you guys totally do it 'sustainably' lol. Don't glamorise this BS
