I never comment, little back story. I’ve owned and run a business for many years, I’m 36 now. I stumbled upon you guys maybe 6 months ago. You guys made me question what I was doing with my life, I have a house, many cars and would be considered successful by most, after watching you two I’ve now bought a yacht, I searched for a colvic to no avail, but have something very similar now. Bought it last week. Anyway I could go on and on but the moral of the story is, you guys are inspiring…I’m going to keep my house, sell the rest and follow in your bow wave. As an old sailor having learned the hard way, I'd never trust a snap shackle aloft (again). They're for things that you want to unsnap quickly and halyards on roller furling sails and the mainsail do not qualify. A bowline - which you could have tied on the old halyard - is foolproof; or in the case of a hanked-on sail halyard a proper locking shackle. Sorry, I don't want to sound pedantic but that shackle set off my alarm bells. I love your videos from the beginning and wouldn't miss one. Thanks for the hard work putting them out for us.

Keep an eye on the holes you drilled through the perspex, I don't know about sailing vessels but having worked on helicopters for 45 years with perspex canopies, the drill holes are where the cracks always start. I'm sure you'll be ok if you don't over torque the attaching screws and nuts

Not just the Perspex, but the aluminum mast. At 1:43, PLEASE round the corners of that hole. Sharp 90°s are stress points from which cracks will develop. You don’t want cracks spreading from that hole at the base of your mast.

Very good idea to fit the hatch in the windscreen. I have a HR352 which has a hatch in the windscreen that can be opened (from factory), but when I bought the boat the hatch was sealed and locked (old boat). Last year I spent a fortune on new parts from Hallberg Rassy, but it was worth every penny. To have fresh air ventilating through the cockpit on hot days is such a difference! Especially I believe you will cherish this since you have another layout, and are also in tropical weather (I’m in Scandinavia). Hope you will enjoy your upgrade!

I have no idea about boats, yachts or any seafaring vessel. But I do follow a few sailing vloggers like yourselves. One major part of boat life I’ve noticed is making absolute sure that rigging and equipment is checked and double checked and anything that looks worn is replaced asap. It makes total sense as the consequences out at sea can be critical. What I admire about watching you guys is that you are prepared to give everything a go yourselves. Not everyone has unlimited bank accounts, so learning how to repair or replace things is so important to carry on the lifestyle you clearly love to have. Great post again guys for keeping it real👍

If the cabin heats up "like a greenhouse" try some sun screens in the windows to block the sun's uv rays and heat. You might also want to hang a tarp above the cabin to put the windows in the shade. I've seen other boats do that with good effect.

A quick question; Which one of you lived in Canada? Or was it a cross country trip? Few people know where Algonquin Park is, let alone visit it. Then there is the t-shirt from Tofino, which is understandable since it's a coastal town in B.C.. Few people wear t-shirts from Canadian locations, especially since Algonquin Park is landlocked and about 1500 +/- Kms from an ocean, while island hopping throughout the Caribbean Islands. Your living every moment like it was the last moment and you really are living the dream. Your making great videos, please don't stop. I have always wondered about your pilot house not having openning windows, and propbably more interesting, no openning hatch up top! We have a Fisher 37, and too has a pilot house (which I love to have, am now sold on that feature!) - but the side windows open up, and we have a massive, (5 ft by 5 ft or so) sliding moonroof (had tinted glass in it, or plastic, not sure which) that we can open and get great air in. It also let's you keep an eye on your main sail if you are sailing from inside the pilot house - and in nice weather the top opens up beautfully. Great feature. Wonder if you could add one to the Colvic? I really like your boat, it has an aft cabin where the Fisher does not, and that is great, but suprised they built it with no sunroof or openning windows! Happy sailing!
@davidbackman444210 ай бұрын
Can't say if it'll turn out important or not. But it might have been safer to have the frame being a slightly looser fit in the window to leave room for thermal expansion. On a similar note, next time you cut a hole in the mast, leave the corners radiused for less risk of cracks forming.
