Life Story of the Amazing Drop Tine Giant Bull Moose
Welcome to three days of Drop Tine! We have been working on this story for months. I’ll begin by saying how proud I am of Libby for her production and creativity on this video. We have recently upped our game transitioning to a professional video editing software called Davinci. It just makes me think back to 2017 the first time I hit “record” on the back of my Nikon D850 and took that shaky amateur video of Grumpy pulling that hissy fit that got him his name. What a journey!
DROP TINE! This guy has been a ghost to us. Although we’ll touch on this in the video too, I’d like to talk about it here. In 8 years we have only spotted this animal a few times. We have spent so much time searching for him. None of the searching was frustrating, instead it was magical. This is a very unusual bull with sets of antlers each year that would delight any moose enthusiast. As for favorites, mine are Grumpy, Left Hook and this guy and to be honest I’m not sure which order they come in at…and that’s okay!
With only a few sightings in 8 years that means Drop Tine has patterns that we never figured out. For me, I’ve enjoyed searching for him all those years as well as the excitement the few times we did find him. It’s been a unique experience with Drop Tine. We’ll continue with two more DT posts Thursday and Friday.
Thanks for watching our channel, we are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.) It is our passion to document wildlife of any kind, but moose are definitely at the top. In New Hampshire we spend a lot of our spring/summer hours in kayaks photographing loons and moose in the waters of New Hampshire. And hike many miles in Alaska seeking all manner of wildlife in the fall.

What age do moose start to decline in antler growth
@lidiab499
@lidiab499 6 ай бұрын
@@KarenWenzler Hello, Karen! The period of most intensive growth of antlers in moose occurs approximately from 3 to 9 years of age. After this, antler growth may slow down or stop completely. It depends on many factors - nutrition, genetics, etc. In no case can the exact age be determined by the antlers, since after five years the growth of the tines may vary. But, in any case, like a big bell on the neck, large, properly growing antlers are an indicator of excellent health!💪🫎🤎

He really has some unique antlers besides the drop tines. They look higher??? What a day to see all of those bulls together. Wow! Do you have any idea how old Drop Tine would be?? He really is a an awesome looking bull. I hope you see him again. He is very elusive, isn't he?? ❤❤🫎🫎

His antlers are like Boris' in that they go out and then straight up. Only in DT's case they do get a little wonky. But yes, Tricia, they are reachy! He's so elusive. He doesn't rut in the valley and with so much vastness to the wilderness there...who knows where he and some of these bulls end up. I'd love to see him again though. His age...wow, let's say he was 6 or 7 in 17 he'd be something like 13 this year. And that's getting up there for sure. Still it's possible he's alive. It would be Rick's best happy dance ever!❤💚💙💜💛🧡

Thanks MP!!!🌰🌰🌰(🤣😂) This was a BANNER morning and Randy was with us for it. Made it extra special finding all 4 monster bulls bedded together once we slogged through the creek. That shot of Mismatch leaving is sad to watch. My heart was following him. I'm glad I didn't know at the time that it would be the last time we saw him. I'd have run out in front of him to stop him. 😍🥰(Oh As If!!!) But so right, fun and fond memories. ❤💔❤‍🩹❤
