Life Update November 2024

It's been a while since we posted an episode so we produced this update to explain why and talk about some major changes coming in our lives.

During drum roll... My first guess was Houston. Congratulations. I'm headed there in April for Ironman Texas. I'm sure you will miss the beauty and the hills of Idaho. Safe Travels. I signed my family for Ragbrai 52 (5 of us, 3 virgins). Hope to see you out there if I get a PBV spot. Wow, lots of life changes within a year!

Hey Mike, Finally getting around to some comments. As you can imagine, it's been a bit of a crazy time for us. Nice job guessing Houston! We are excited to get settled in and for our new lives down there. We will miss the beauty of Idaho but luckily we can always get in Brewster and come visit the best spots without having to endure the winters. So cool you signed your family up for RAGBRAI....AWESOME!! We hope to see you in Iowa. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

Hey Ron, I don't believe we've been called intrepid before, but I like it. :) Living overseas for so many years and moving around a bit makes us not afraid of change. Transitions can be difficult but the final change is always good. Thanks for the great comment. Enjoy the Ride

Congratulations! U-Haul's tag line used to be "Adventure in Moving!" LOL That's an understatement. We have moved many times because of my vocation, but the move to SWFL was all ours. There are times when we think was it the right move. So far, I think so. It's hard to believe that it's been a year since your dad died. We, too, were able to live close to my dad during his last years. I'm grateful for that. Looking forward to new videos of your adventures. Good luck and have an Adventure in Moving!

Howdy, Thank you! We are excited for our new life in Houston. We have the house moved and mostly set up and are now packing up Frank's Place. The transition is an adventure but also looking forward to getting settled in and on my bike exploring Houston. We aren't super worried about the heat/humidity since we lived and survived a similar climate in Taiwan. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

Weather will be nicer over in Houston for sure! I live near Chicago and i would recommend taking your bikes with you when you come to Chicago and riding our hundreds of miles of bike trails, especially the one along the Fox River. Might make for some good videos, too. Can't wait to see the Taiwan footage. I've certainly lost some good footage to bad SD cards before, that's unfortunate that it was from an international trip. Good luck and stay safe. We have done 3 moves in the winter and know what you're getting into. We have said we are going to do everything possible to avoid anymore winter moves.

Hey Scott, Yeah...winter moves aren't optimal. We now have the house fully moved to the new townhouse in Houston and that move went well. We are currently 90% done packing up Frank's Place for an eventual move once the shop space is secured. Hopefully the rest of this transition goes smoothly. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Howdy (native Texan here) and congratulations on your new granddaughter and the big move! Such a bittersweet time & dealing with settling an estate, moving you won’t have time to deal with all the emotions. I suggest holding your new grand baby a lot to help with the changes. You’re familiar with the city, time to check out the rest of the state. Maybe check out the Texas Monthly annual BBQ and Taco trail. Safe travels!

Hey Celeste, Great to hear from a Texas native, we are excited to become Texans. Yes, there have been a lot of changes in our lives but our lives are often operating at some level of chaos and together we can navigate almost anything. Houston is what you make of it! You can love it or hate it. It’s your choice! I have friends and family who live or have lived in the suburban areas and love it. One of my sisters lived in a small suburb that was against Houston on the southwest side. It was just fine. Another sister lives just outside a small community to the north west a few miles from Houston and loves it! I Have driven around the edges of Houston, it doesn’t seem any worse than any other big city. As for flying in and out, you are exactly right! From where we live in Texas we have to fly to DFW to get anywhere really. With the attitude the two of you have I think you will enjoy it. Take care and good luck!

Yeah... I was in New Orleans last week in mid-70s weather. It took courage to come back to IF to 30 degrees and wind... It's nice on the gulf coast 6 months per year. Also, cool bikepacking community down there. One of my best friends and riding buddy lives in Houston.

Hey Johnathan, Thanks for the comment, nice to hear from you. I don't think you're lacking courage when it comes to cold weather and riding your bike given all the things you do in Idaho. However, for us (who don't have the cold weather courage), this will be a great move and we are much more suited for riding in the heat/humidity given our years doing that in Taiwan. We are also looking forward to getting to know the extensive cycling community there, maybe we'll meet your best friend. :) Also, you should plan a trip down there and we can do some riding. I just stumbled across your Triple Bypass video and then saw that you are moving to Houston. I grew up in Houston but have been in Austin now for about 30 years. Once you get settled, I'd like to recommend the Easter Hill Country Tour (now called Easter Bike Tour) in Kerville. There are also many 1 day charity rides around the Houston area in preparation for the MS 150. Also, Bike Around the Bay is a pretty cool 2 day ride. Good luck in Houston. You may see EF Pro tour ride Neilson Powless sometime. He has family there and rides on the west side in the off season.

Hey, I was wondering where the hell you two were! I must say; I don't blame you for moving to warmer climes. The Snake River planes can be pretty cold and windy. We winterized our cabin in Island Park last week and enjoyed some great weather. That won't last long though. We're considering a sale of the cabin in order to purchase a winter home in the southern Nevada area and stay in Salt Lake during the warmer months. Just a side note- we're not riding RAGBRAI next year choosing a European bike ride in its stead. Perhaps our paths will cross again.

Hey Earl, Sorry for the slow response, it's been a bit crazy. Yeah...every place has it's pros and cons. For us the pros of Houston won out over the cons. Many of the great things we love about Idaho, we can still enjoy when we come back in Brewster to visit and ride bikes. We will not be coming back when it's cold and snowy...that's for sure. I won't miss my snow shovel. I like the plan of bouncing between SLC and southern Nevada, change is good. Sorry to hear you won't be in Iowa this year but a European bike adventures sounds amazing. Let us know what that looks like and how it is. This is on our list of future adventures. Also, please stay tuned as we have many more adventures planned I think you'll enjoy. Enjoy the Ride
