the reason they have approved vendors is because the campground is getting back alley kickbacks. The whole thing is corrupt and that campground is a scam

"approved" vendors must be getting approval by paying money to the campground. that's why they are more expensive. having moral values does not make one earn money. if fact, the opposite is true.

Wow! That takes the cake. Wouldn’t stay there even if I had a free stay. Maybe they shut off your camera at the end because they’re going to charge you for the cleanup, and you wouldn’t be able to protest because you couldn’t prove how (little work) they did. Just guessing. After all, they were so easy to work with up till then, right?

Liz, an inexpensive solution to prevent this from happening again would be to invest is some locking fuel caps. Without the key you could not open it. Also would help prevent fuel theft that is common in some areas.

We just had to replace our caps (on a 2022 Newmar, no less, after one year of travel 🙄). Wish I had thought of locking fuel caps…when these break, that’s what we’ll do. Thank you.

Having dealt with this before….. I have a 100 gallon fuel transfer tank in the bed of my truck. I use it to fuel my excavator, tractor etc. I also have a fuel transfer pump that will suck the fuel out of your RV. This would not have been a super complex thing to deal with…. First I would pump your tank dry into a couple of drums. Then remove the plug on the tank to make sure I got every last drop. Maybe wash a gallon or two of diesel and refill your tank. Woulda taken more time to round up two empty drums. I would keep your old fuel and after a week suck fuel off the top and use in my equipment.

I've been in the repair business for 45 yrs. The fact that the guys didn't have a pump with them is unbelievable. Along with a pump they should have brought a ball valve that threaded into the tank and put a hose directly from there to the pump.

It would be a good idea to get a written copy of the campground before going, because, from what I've read, the better campgrounds often have very restrictive policies and rules. For example, many will not admit a rig more then 10 years old, so you want to get permission in advance before you show up, and send a pic of your RV for their approval. Or they don't allow pets, or they require you to use their approved vendors for repairs.

Your diesel engine has a water separator fuel filter that should be drained as well. Me personally I would’ve only drained the 13 gallons of water which would have come out of your tank first. Love your videos keep up the good work!

I checked the separator and barely anything came out, which was not a big surprise since I never started the engine. I had all the draining of the tank on video and water came out every single time until maybe the last 8 gallons. I think that must be because of the funnel effect, like when you drain your bathtub. What a crazy story! I’ve made a few mistakes here and there. Once I was at a friends and she called in the middle of the night to have me move behind her garage because of extreme wind gusts coming. Half asleep I moved my rig forgetting I was plugged in because at her place I’m usually not. Well bang pulled the whole socket off of the RV😮 We both did things in the dark so that is something to avoid. Glad you finally got a good outcome! Safe travels!

What I don't understand is why didn't they use some sort of pump to transport the contaminated diesel from the small tray to the large tank. It would have been much faster and also much less soil contamination. Thank you for sharing Liz. :)

I counted 30 RV vendors, at $5k a pop that's a lot! I'm hoping they ditch that policy for sure! See you in the next video.

The campground argument could be that they need more insurance to abate grease, motor oil, gear oil, anti-freeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, battery acid, and fuel spills. Since not all chemical spills are easily detectable, records should be kept as to when and what maintenance was done by what company on each site. The approved vendor list should be regulated by before work and after work campsite inspections.

Deisel floats on water ! Need to drain water from bottom of tank. Leave to settle. Heating oil tanks drain off a little water once a year or when appropriate/accordingly! It is always the simple silly mistakes we all make ! 😮😊

Mistakes happen! But how you handled this is true to your channel, absolutely amazing! I will never be in that area to camp but I would never stay there. That approved vendor list is a giant kick back scheme. The folks you hired were NOT vendors to the park. They were vendors for you! This is just like parks that will not let you collect an Amazon package outside their gate! Incredible! You keep right on doing what you are doing and sharing your experiences. We bought a brand-new Class C RV in 2013. Was great fun but had to sell it as we could not afford the gas at 5 plus dollars a gallon. Now we just stay in hotels or motels when traveling, ends up being cheaper. No large amounts of gas, no big repair bills that RV's need. We do miss the adventure but the cost of just having an RV was too much. Good video and sorry for all your unusual grief.

I had a small traveling mobile weighing business for rv's and only one rv park ever wanted a 10% commission on the work I did in that park. They said if they didn't make money, neither were the vendors that entered. So in talking to the other vendors, they all said they charged the rv owner at least 25% more than they would if they did the work outside the park. I am amazed at your ability to analyze a situation, determine a solution, and get-it-done! Thankfully, the campground finally relented and allowed the team you selected to take care of the problem, but it is clear the "approved vendor policy' is there for a single reason; as a profit center. The way you were treated by Oasis Resort makes it clear that it IS NOT the place for me or anyone I know heading to Vegas. There are always exception to rules, especially when the options are so limited. You did the right thing here and the kicker was when their employee shut off your phone. Not an honest place for sure. Plenty of other nice places with nice pools to stay in Vegas.

Did I miss something? Do they not have siphons in Vegas? Quick and clean. You can also easily make a drain plug with a valve. Just drain until you see the diesel.

We make mistakes, I learned from a friend who put 40 gallons of gas at station in his boat's bilge in daylight, after opening gas tank lid he put nozzle in the rod holder next to the gas and didn't realize until later and gas poured out going home from station and in his front yard. He told me his story, aftter asking why his grass wats turning yellow, and I never made that mistake with my boat, thanks frankie

Ouch! Sorry that happened and thanks for sharing the news about the "policies" of that RV park. They collect a $5000 "admittance fee" to get on their approved vendor list so the vendors have to charge an exorbitant price to make that up. Wouldn't be surprised to find out the RV park is also getting a portion of every repair charge their vendor charge when working in the park. I thought they might charge you for removing the contaminated dirt at your campsite. Anyway, glad you got it fixed with some guy who knew what they were doing. Safe travels!

I accidentally put gas in my diesel pickup and it was daytime. I was was distracted by being on my phone at the time. Luckily I realized what I did before I started the truck. Had it towed to the local Ford dealership.

These guys got the job done and thats great. On that note a 12 volt diesel transfer pump and hose sitting in the pan would have made their job a lot easier. If it's a regular thing, they should invest.

Wow! This is an absolutely crazy experience! And to think most of the mechanics you contacted had no awareness that diesel is lighter than water is absolutely shocking as that is Basic Auto Care 101 knowledge! For reference, diesel is 7 lbs per gallon and water is 8.34 lbs per gallon. And, I must say, I have never heard of an "approved vender" but being in Las Vegas where they wheel and deal for virtually anything causes me to not be too surprised; it's Vegas. Great video and thanks for sharing!

@@LizAmazing I learned a long time ago that it's not just price in any transactions. The question is, can you work with these people? I've had some interesting experiences with Mercedes Benz, and while I really like my Sprinter, I'm not sure if I would purchase another one. It has its highs and lows. We don't have any way other than the fresh water fill to just fill the tank, but, luckily it's on the opposite side of where the diesel fuel is. I think it's pretty amazing that you were able to find someone who could fix your vehicle on the spot and get you back on the road. One thing I noticed was your comment about having a Class C and having to break camp. Our Class B motorhome is really no wider than a full size car just a little longer. So, it's our only vehicle when traveling and camping. It's so nimble that we can just drive it anywhere. Getting 18 to 20 MPG is really why I purchased it. Safe travels and hope you're enjoying living full time. This is just not something we've chosen to do. It's not a one size fits all lifestyle.

Hello Liz, Thank you for being humble enough to share this mishap. Hopefully it prevents someone else from doing the same thing. I can see how easily this could happen under the circumstances. It’s interesting that the guys who did the repair didn’t have some sort of temporary shut-off valve or a hose system to make the process go smoother and prevent the fuel from splashing and dripping. One of my main reasons for not getting a motorhome is that if it needs to be towed a lot can go wrong. My F350 is easily towed to a dealership. As a single, middle aged woman people seem shocked i drive a fifth wheel and Super duty truck, but to me it's the best combo for traveling.

That campground would be a hard no for me. You can’t let someone force you into a situation with potentially astronomical costs while they’ve got zero skin in the game if it goes bad. If one of their vendors is incompetent and causes additional issues and expense, the campground isn’t going to accept any responsibility for forcing you to use their people. They’ll put the blame entirely on the vendor and tell you it’s between you and the vendor.

OMG, this is a horrible story Liz but it also shows your resilience, tenacity and never giving up is key in all you do! First time I hear of approved vendors for a RV park but that is probably because I never asked! In the sailing world in marinas it is very common and the even make you pay a % of the work to be done! Interesting they would tell you water floats on diesel ! Scary! But, once again you pulled it off, Bravo!

I have stayed at this resort many times. It is a beautiful resort and the location is perfect. Obviously the approved mobile services are taking advantage by charging double or triple the amount. However, I also understand why the resort allows only approved mobile repair shops. If they allow any mobile service on their property they are opening themselves to liability. They want to make sure the mobile service entering their property is licensed and insured. The resort is protecting themselves and other RVer's.

Yes. They do require them to show their insurance and their business license. It's the $5000 fee for every single vendor every year that I find objectionable. And you are right, it is a lovely resort. I hope they get rid of that policy soon. Thanks for watching.

Glad you got it sorted eventually, but with more stress than you wanted for sure. I would have gone into MacGyver mode. 5 or so 5 gallon containers, pump from filler or drain from below into a large oil change container and transfer to 5 gallon containers. If it's coming out diesel rather than water, done. Find where to dispose of the dirty water/diesel mix. Add the diesel water remover additive to the tank, refill containers with fresh diesel, multiple fillups to get almost full tank, done. Painful, but in an emergency, doable.

I just watched your video, Liz. You did the right thing. When you said that you put Howes fuel treatment in your fuel, i would've dumped the whole thing in there...better too much than not enough. As a truck driver for 37 years (34 as an owner operator), you should put fuel treatment in at least every other time you fuel. Diesel has no top-end lubrication since they took the sulfur out of it. I use Lucas fuel treatment every time I fuel up. This keeps the moisture out of your tank and fuel lines, helps keep your fuel filters from getting stopped up, and also keeps your injectors clean, while adding top-end lubrication to your upper cylinders. Lucas and Howes are both well know brands.

It sure seems that way, Paul. No vendor vetting system at all it seems. You just need to have a business license, insurance and $5000 and you're in. I counted 30 vendors on the RV services list so that's $150,000 for the campground right there!

I worked in car rentals for 20 years. You wouldn't believe how many customers have gotten diesel and gas mixed up when filling the vehicle. Each time, a tow to the dealer, drain the tank and drop it, clean it out. We even once had a guy put windshield washer fluid in the coolant overflow bottle. Good times.

This was an awesome video with lots of knowledge as for the gentleman training your tank. There’s an oil and fuel absorbing pads, and the slang word for it is diapers that could’ve been laid out there prior to draining the tank and prior to filling the tanks on the trailer.

As a tradesman holding certs in two mech trades, upon retirement in 04 we decided to snowbird and ordered a new 38' Mobile Suites and designed a custom built 04 Internationa Toter with a Harley barn behind the cab. I became the defacto "go-to" guy iin the resorts we stayed at in Az. & Tx. During our years of winter snowbirding. After the first year of ownership of that trailer and having to repair virtually every system, eg: the 50 amp transfer panel being wired wrong to the black tank power flush plumbing, to the hydraulic slide pump leaking, to the crossover tubes to the brake calper halves all being crushed from them rolling the axles around in the factory on just the discs with no wheels installed, to the roof trim at both ends lifting away .

Why on earth did they not pump the contaminated fuel into the waste tank. In doing so it would have taken half of the time and been less messy. I don't know what they sealed the tank with? But it should have been a proper sealing washer. Not something you paint on?

It was special sealant for that. I keep looking underneath hoping it is holding and it is. Yes, a pump would have been faster, but I was just grateful to have it done. Thanks for your comment.
