Sounds like you guys are enjoying your life back in the Netherlands. If I was free from any financial considerations, I would move to Europe. But of course there are always financial issues. I think there is a lot to be said for moving somewhere where you don't know anyone when starting a "new" life. It gives you a chance to freely design a life that you want. I have not had a drink in four years. I don't even think about alcohol anymore and I don't miss it. Veel succes in je nieuwe huis!
