Your first q&a answer about letting time decide how your future goes was perfect and absolutely spot on. I was 73 when my wife and me decided to sell our house, buy a campervan and permanently live on the road. That was 18 months ago, and the best move we ever made. Would we have made that choice when we met 30+ years ago, of course not, but time has changed it all. You have a wonderful family and a great life, may it long continue ✌️

My first comment. When you come down to Devon. Come to Exmouth. The Mare carpark. Moho spaces and the beach is so close. You can park on the sea Front during the day time. If you do come down and need water or empty the loo. Your welcome .. Fi

We sold our house in 2008 and went travelling full time in our motorhome towing a a Smart car. We went very slowly, only 50,000 miles in those 16 years but had a wonderful adventure. Now 84 and 73, we've slowed down and we spend 6 months in Portugal and 6 months in the UK. Enjoy your adventure.

I think Piper is a very empathetic clever little girl. When you said how she became vegetarian it was exactly the same reason as me, I saw a cattle truck and it really bothered me. For a young girl to even think that way is special, especially when you are all meat eaters. Great that you give her the opportunity to make her own decisions. 😊

Keira absolutely needs to do her C1! If only for emergency backup (and you may be surprised, Keira, you may actually be a good lorry driver, check out the girl who did the Ice Road!) . It's short-sided not to have a second driver in the case of any major incidents that render Rick unable to drive and you're a couple thousand miles from home. Don't like to voice bad things cos they can end up manifesting but it's really important to have a back up plan so you can get your home back to the UK.

Cornwall does have narrow lanes and high banks. Devon tends to be hilly with some narrow lanes but great scenery. Dartmoor and Bodmin moor get a lot of rain at short notice and Exmoor has more trees, rain, hills but not as bleak as Dartmoor.

As a truck driver we use fold away steps to gain access to the rear of trailers . They just pull out then push back in , usually fitted to fridge , curtain siders and boxes . Next time you follow a truck take a close look and you should be able to see them . The should be a straight forward fitment for your truck , they are heavy duty and are built to last and should not be expensive . Safe travels 😊

Sound advice - definitely avoid the school hols and avoid single track lanes at all cost as they are invariably tight and windy with passing spaces designed for roller skates!! I too live in Cornwall but travel in my camper for around 9 months of the year and have also been inspired to rent a camper in Iceland for the first 2 weeks of April - maybe see you on the Ring Road 😊

Definitely get Italy on your radar. We've vanned there a good few times now, and it has to be one of, if not the, most dog friendly places ever. Literally dog specific trolleys in supermarkets, so they come with you basically everywhere. Plenty of little camper spots you can fill up for free. The people, the food and the beauty - 10/10. Also, it's very cheap for food and coffee when you're a bit off the beaten track. We aren't huge fans of rules (probably why we didn't gel with Switzerland), and neither are the Italians from our experience, which just makes us love it even more (minus their driving...). Might struggle in a few places with the size of the lorry, but there are always workarounds.

32:49 steps... I recommend 2 sets, a fixed set & a folding set. For the fixed set cut into the underrun guard slightly & set in a sheet of aluminium or marine ply with steps cut into it. For the folding ones there should be a gap between body & chassis just deep enough to slide in a paralellogram design like a stepstool but without the back legs, instead it would take its parallelism from an extended top step. With ingenuity you could put a swivel under the top step so you don't necessarily go out straight but stay close to the truck. With more ingenuity you could operate it with a reliable pulley rather than an erratic electric motor.

I'd highly recommend Norway and Sweden in September and October, we have done it twice in our motorhome both times absolutely amazing, so amazing that we are going back again this year. Leaving UK late August, there for September and some of October (Norwegian schools return mid August) . We found that driving up if the weather was rubbish in Norway we nipped across into Sweden and it was lovely, less spectacular than Norway but still beautiful. Sweden was quieter than Norway and we had some drop dead gorgeous parkups all to ourselves, there were some great small museums. Colours are amazing changing very quickly from greens to beatiful autumnal colours, we saw some great aurora displays probably about 12 nights of aurora. A few chilly nights and a bit of snow in October but nothing that caused us any problems. You've been to Norway before so know that black and grey waste disposal isn't an issue and there are plenty of places to get frsh water & LPG, not so much LPG in Sweden. Seriously I'm hooked on motorhome travel in Norway but I'd avoid July and most of August. Maybe see you on the road. My wife is 5'8" and I am 6'8" so we also have a foot between us 🤣
@Touringwiththekids13 күн бұрын
Same height difference then 😂 We've done Norway both times over summer before, Jul/Aug and wasn't bad at all (I think most people head south in their motorhomes). We loved it like you, which is why we are tempted to go back.... and it would be a different experience in the truck. We shall see.

Great news to hear you are heading to Cornwall (my home)… loads of places to view, but pick your timings due to influx of traffic (Tourists / “Emmets” known locally)…. It can be challenging even for locals. North Cornwall my favourite, Bude family orientated and quieter in summer than more famous places like St Ives for example.. lots of camping in Bude. … good luck to you all. 😊
